"Divided we stand"…no…wait…um… "united we flail" …no, that’s not it. Crap, I think I wrote it down on a Wendy’s napkin. Look in the back seat of my car…. Oh, here we go:
Republican Popular People’s Front
Front of Republican People Who Wish They Were Popular
Wankers.

I’ve been spending as much time as my brain can handle over at Free Republic trying to gauge what the rank and file wingnuts are saying. There seems to be an inordinate amount of Sarah worship going on with people actually thinking of her as the second coming of Reagan. Lots of talk of “real” Republicans purging the RINOs from the party (with varying degrees of what “real” is). Some of what I would consider traditional Goldwater Republicans (i.e. intellectuals) trying to steer the party back to reason – they, of course, are being drowned out by the Hannity listeners. Some talk of the marriage between the GOP and the Fundies as having been a disaster (with the usual whining comments about poor, downtrodden Fundies being attacked).
There’s a huge civil war coming in the Republican Party and I don’t think any of the reasonable people in the GOP are going to be able to stop it. A Reign of Terror will be our spectator sport for a bit.
The scary part of this may be Democrats getting into the same hubristic frame of mind that Republicans were in 8 years ago. Let’s not fuck it up as badly.
Uh, never mind.
The right’s getting their shit together may take a little longer than expected.
Their minds are aglow with whirling, transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapor of invention. Who can question the effectiveness of the #dontgo movement after the conservatives retook Congress this election cycle? Already, the generals of the conservative movement are designing their uniforms (martial, patriotic) and identifying other nodes of technological coolness on which to inflict their presence. All will be swept before their invincible reason and geometric logic. Onward!
hey! Pam has a Plan, too!
“There’s a huge civil war coming in the Republican Party and I don’t think any of the reasonable people in the GOP are going to be able to stop it.” Hey, I’m buying season passes to this one — wouldn’t miss it for the world. Pass the popcorn and let the virtual body count commence!
“The ostracizing will continue until our numbers substantially increase.”
Until the GOP party philosophy is something more than a series of planks involving hate and pissing off liberals, they’re going to be a marginal party. John Cole had a post up with a quote from the comments of the American Conservative that was pretty eloquent in its trashing off the modern GOP:
Any candidate with real intelligence, judgment, and expertise would not support the policies of the Republican party platform, plain and simple. As long as those basic policies remain unchanged, the candidates who will succeed must be able to practice deep denial while acting with full confidence in their righteousness. This means the qualifications to be the GOP nominee are mostly ones of psychological imbalance and theatrical skill. To change that situation, the entire policy agenda of the Republican party would have to change, and that simply isn’t going to happen.
Their political philosophy is a series of contradictory and/or illogical tenets. If Eisenhower were running today he’d be targeted as a left-wing loon, the man was president of Columbia for crissakes, and Erick Erickson would trying to mark him with a scarlet L. No matter what plans they have to reinvent their marketing gimmickry, they won’t be in very good political shape because their decisive policies will never attract more than 50% of the electorate at best.
Hell, if Nixon was running today Erickson, et al, would have branded him “too liberal.”
Dennis, you use your keyboard purtier than a twenty dollar Freeper!
Oh, I pray (”to whom it may concern”, ’cause I’m an agnostic) that hi-test crazies like Pam hold onto Palin as The Great White Hope; imagine the ‘80 election if there had been a serious insurgency from Agnew Republicans.
The right’s getting their shit together may take a little longer than expected.
I think they’ll get it together very quickly, but the nice part is that it will be immediately recognizable to the general public as shit.
Let the purges on the right continue for as long as it takes. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch.
Don’t rule out the Club for Growth!
No one ever expects the Club for Growth.
How about the “America for Lieberman” party?
Don’t forget The Project for a New American Century; PNAC is back baby and it’s got Bloody Bill flogging it for all it’s worth. Which ain’t much but that’s all they’ve got now.
I read somewhere that Newt wants to take over the RNC. That should help propel them to new heights of delusional grandeur.
Ha haaaaah!!!
Did you hear it’s the former Romney staffers that’re spillin’ the dirt on the Wasilla hillbillies?
Ha ha ha haaaah!
they really need a name that doesn’t make people think of baldness cures.
Or, you know, other pseudomedical treatments.
I don’t think of baldness cures. I think of people who like tumors.
Well, we could join them all and troll and spam them to death. Give them so many hits their sites crash…lol
Okay. I realized that I had an old, unused e-mail address on aol… So I went to TBogg’s links and left comments on 3, and bookmarked… (One of them sites is canny enough to demand more information than I’m willing to give them.) I’m WILDLY in favor of Sarah, and on one of my comments I got all excited about the idea that she may come down to Georgia to campaign for that “great American” Saxby Chambliss. (Well, of course she will… it’ll get her ass out of the blizzards.) On another one of them I got a wee bit agitated and INSISTED that the Republicans DEMAND closed primaries to prevent “the other side” from skewing the true results.
Now I’m going to go and take a long, hot shower and scrub myself with a wire brush to get the filth off…
Well done!
I think they are all great sites.
The people of this great nation knew exactly who they were tossing out of office this week.
As long as the GOP marches to this beat, we will never lose an election.
Can we get K-Lo a talk show?
the first link is hilarious… our “use of the Internet” is apparently an unfair “structural advantage” or some type of sinister plot. Is being not evil also an unfair “structural advantage” ?
“It’s the People’s Front of Republicans Political Suicide Squad!”
Nah, it kind of gives away the punchline, doesn’t it.
McCain lost because he didn’t anticipate that the middle class would finally stand up.
Had doubts myself, to be perfectly honest.
I reached it’s final destination…
Nassau County needs to make sure she takes her meds, in the public interest. Don’t they have social workers on Long Island?
Link, por favor.
I love Republican circular firing squads. I really hope the maniac Redhaters succeed in their efforts to purge moderates from the party (though we do not want them in ours). It virtually guarantees that they will remain irrelevant until the end of time.
The one thing I give McCain credit for is kicking Palin to the curb, driving the bus over her, and then backing up again. She selfishly saw she had a national audience and tried to take it from McCain the candidate. This is absolute political heresy no matter whose side you’re on. She deserves to be sent to Siberia for her political crimes.
Nope. You deserves the thanks of a grateful nation for insuring that batshit insane idiot McCain did not get elected.
Agent Provacateur, eh? *g*
Digg it
They’re absolutely fascinated by the NetRoots, but, they still don’t get it…
You are correct, of course, I’m merely pointing out that Palin is a loose cannon and no sane political party would touch her. That said, May she divide the GOP for years. Looks like the republicans finally got their very own
Ralph Nader, always hanging around siphoning off votes.
They never will. Authoritarian personalities are incapable of understanding democracy.
Bear in mind that you said “sane political party.” ‘Nough said.
Was just reading at Media Matters that Brokaw went county by county and came to the conclusion that the land mass was greater for McC than it was for Obama. How’s that for Republican thinking? Are they all nuts…..
So much the better.
He is going for the prairie dog vote. He has been spending too much time in eastern Montana. They have more prairie dogs than people.
To be presented in the first segment of a new continuing feature, “Who Gives a Fuck…?”
It’s rather ironic that they use the Orwellian tactic of smearing the Dems of Big Gov/Big Brother label while they’re the biggest perpetrators…
I certainly don’t but what kind of mind works like that? It should be studied by doctors and universities for years to come.
BostonGlobe headline; I’m sure it’s all over the place.
Oh dear Dog. Can’t we just cut it out awready? I was looking forward to a President with a wit. Reagan’s dead: if BHO was going to talk with that former President, he’d have to have a seance. It was a joke, and an affectionate one, too, I thought. But the chattering classes have no humor, it appears.
Never underestimate a pol like Palin. The Constitution Party is rubbing its collective hands with glee at the thought of a civil war in the Rethug party. They will happily offer safe haven to all the far-right-wingnuts like Palin and other fundies who have similar beliefs. They have been waiting for an event (and a champion) such as this. Palin excites the wingnuts on the extreme far right – and her previous membership in the AIP (which she dumped and covered up for political expediency) shows that she is already ‘one of them’.
Self awareness is not their strong suit.
Susan Eisenhower, Christopher Buckley, Jeffery Hart just to name a few.
Pretty soon it’ll be just Hewitt, Rush, Hannity and the rest of the nuts along with Palin and her champion Kristol.
I, for one, am looking forward to it.
They pull that canard out of the dusty dustbin every election cycle. It has been ‘true’ always. All the bare land ‘votes’ for the Rethugs, and all the huge cities where people are stacked on top of each other like lab rats vote for the Dems.
So??????
I liked Karl Roves’s map better. It showed all the areas of the country that voted more Democratic than in 2004. The map was almost totally blue except for a little red crescent shape in the deep south, not including Florida of course.
Republicans should work in theaters. They’re great projectionists.
You’re right.
Interesting contradiction. He intertwines our goals within their well established ground organization methodology, until this time around, and states the goal of Rove’s “Permanent Majority” as the end result.
The part that he left out that would make it our methodology and goal would be the part about handing the keys over to responsible public officials acting for the common good.
Other than that he’s got it right. Too bad they don’t know how to do anything on the intertoobz but piss and moan.
Like I said the other night the struggle for 2010 started on Wednesday.
Frankly, that would be an excellent development. If the hard right social conservatives leave the Republicans for the Constitution Party, we effectively neutralize both wings of the current Republican Party. Constitution Party will never be more than marginal (except possibly in a few rural western states). The Republicans without their shock troops would also be marginalized. Neither group could marshal more than 20-25% of the electorate.
Apparently not… Moderates to blame for GOP losses, conservative leader says
Circular firing squad… Ready… Aim… Fire!!!
Alaska has more land mass than Hawaii?
Who’da thunk it!
Works for me.
Yes, and I for one am cheering them on to it!
I have no problem with moderate Republicans – they are entitled to their opinions et cetera. But the actual moderates have been so drowned out by the radical neo-cons that the party in no way resembles what I used to know as the GOP.
And for allowing that to happen – I hope they all rot in H**l for a long time.
Just wait till it melts….
Heh, one thing that pisses off all good Texans is the notion that splitting Alaska in two would still put Texas in third place…!
I love the “undisclosed location” bit. The new status symbol within the Rethug party.
“I’m sorry but Rep Clutchbutt is attemding a double secret meeting at an undisclosed location. May I take a message, Sen Yeradickhead?”
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Well, the moderates ARE to blame – they all jumped ship and voted for Obama!
My golly, but Tony Perkins is stunningly full of crap…
julia up at the mothership
Give him an enema and he would disappear.
Norquist too…
The 50th state would thoroughly stomp on their feeble efforts…!
Gee, I wonder if Grover will take credit for “the 50 state strategy?”
People/pundits were asking that question about two weeks before the end of the campaign. There was precedent – Dole did that when it became very apparent that he was not going to win. He essentially stopped campaigning for himself and spent the rest of the time helping to elect Reps, Senators and a couple of Governors.
McCain (and his troops) just couldn’t bring themselves to admit they were going down. Although they gave it away anyway in a lot of the comments they made off the cuff. *g*
what REALLY tciks me off is no one stands up for the DEMOCRAT”ic” Party.
(not the party itself, mid you, but the use of the word, without the IC on the end)
I even hear DEMS refer to it as the Democrat party (not democratIC)
why does no one ever correct people for this ?
it really gets my goat, and , ummm, badger

There’s a huge civil war coming in the Republican Party
i absolutely agree, and i think a lot of the Neo-Con Rovian element has gotten older and retired, the leaders of that movement anyway.
There is still the “hannity / Rush” element, but most are so radical and dumb that they will just be fighting against the rest of the party for quite a while now me thinks.
Of course, population density went for Obama.
I’m reminded of the famous line of Stalin’s to Churchill, “How many divisions has the Pope?”
In this case, it’s how many votes does 320 acres of farmland in Nebraska get?
