Matt Lewis of Clownhall writes:
As Amanda wrote, several prominent senior conservative leaders recently held a conclave to discuss the future of the movement.
Some bloggers and younger conservatives have expressed frustration that they were not invited. (In fairness, I’m told the group was small because the location would not permit a larger audience. I’m also told there will be more inclusive future meetings.)
Meetings like this should be kept secret because when they go public, they make the dozen, or so, leaders in the room feel great – but they also annoy and offend every other leader who wasn’t invited. It actually creates disunity. Clearly, someone leaked.
Regardless, I think the offended folks miss the point that the paradigm has shifted. And while I applaud the conservative leaders who convened the meeting — and while I have a deep-abiding respect for them and the work they have done (and will contribute to do in the future) – the times also call for a new generation of conservative leaders to arise.
A quick check on who these "prominent senior conservative leaders" were reveals the usual suspects: Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, the Leadership Institute’s Founder Morton Blackwell, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, the Publisher of the American Spectator Al Regnery, pollster Kellyanne Conway and Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com Richard Viguerie which is pretty much the whole nexus of wingnut welfare movement. This might explain why Matt Lewis was willing to swallow the "there aren’t enough chairs or party favors to go around for everyone" excuse, because getting pissy about the no-invite might ‘paradigm shift’ Matt onto the real welfare and not the wingnut-flavored brand.
But never mind that because The No-Longer Virgin Ben explains why conservative youth is being given the Ben-Gay and creamed-corn smelling cold shoulder :
The Sheer Idiocy of Following Youth Movements
There is no question that the Barack Obama Movement was led not by elder statesman, but by college students and twentysomethings. This election cycle provided Generation Y a chance to assume unearned moral superiority over their elders by promoting a black president. It also provided Generation Y a chance to live out the precepts of their public school educations, which focused on changing the world, as well as diversity and tolerance.
Heres the big question: Why in the world should we be excited about young Americans defining our politics?
Here’s the bigger question: Wasn’t Ben Shapiro the heralded conservative tyro who was hired at age 17 to write a nationally syndicated column on politics and culture a mere seven years ago? As I recall, conservatives have not fared well during the Shapiro Epoch although he did manage to define "unearned moral superiority" for generations to come.

Glad to see that the surgery did not damage your snark.
Oh my, that review of Ben’s book must have left a mark.
I feel better about the future of the Democratic party now, knowing that Bozell is a prominent senior conservative poobah.
When you do a paradigm shift, be sure you let the clutch out, because otherwise your Red-State Ferrari will stall out, and instead of accelerating smoothly onto the Freeway of Relevance, you will be rear-ended by the Eighteen Wheeler of Demographic Change.
Did I miss some big news?
It also provided Generation Y a chance to live out the precepts of their public school educations, which focused on changing the world, as well as diversity and tolerance.
Oh, I see! Not-Virgin Ben’s saying that the lil’ skulls full of Socialist mush, planted there by their hard-left teachers and professors, have now subverted the country by helping to elect Dear Comrade Leader Obama, so when we wake up on the day after the inaguration in a Stalinist dictatorship they’ll be all to blame.
All proof we need more private Christian schools funded by public voucher money, as well as more homeschooling, to prevent high treason like this in the future.
Poor Ben. Now that he’s married, he can’t get away with lying around watching porn and calling it “research” for his “book.” It doesn’t appear this change in life circumstances is agreeing with him. He’s become a parody of the cranky old conservative coot at only 25.
I saw Max Frost & The Troopers before they were famous.
I saw Commander Cody and Hi Lost Planet Airmen when they still weren’t famous.
Thanks TBogg.
digg
I saw Starship Troopers when it was a movie.
OT to Kenosha Kid. I saw that movie with a then young Army buddy from Kenosha. We were stationed at Belvoir in Virginia. Wonder if it was you. Care to out your identity? Did you ever own a Daimler?
In case there’s some poor soul who hasn’t heard of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airman, here’s Hot Rod Lincoln circa 1971
Why in the world should we be excited about young Americans defining our politics?
Because we are not a run by an elderly communist regime? I think young Ben must be unamerican to pose such a question. We have always looked to youth to inspire and lead. It is up to us old guys & gals to counsel and provide some perspective. Other nations think that we have a false sense of optimism. We do – that is because young people can run things! It is the core of our greatness!
Shorter Conservative Council of Elders: You can have the keys to the conservative movement when you pry them from our cold dead fingers.
I don’t understand the point of this? You are talking about a meeting of senior conservative leaders, then jump to Shapiro who wrote a conservative book. What’s your point?
Interesting reading, surprised no-one here has jumped on this:

Looks like the payback’s are starting. At the top of the list a lobbyist for the auto industry, big finance (Citicorp), AND of all things big tobacco. Wonder when big tobacco starts having problems are we going to ‘bail them out” in order to keep the tobacco funds coming in “to save the children”?
I read Starship Troopers way before it was a movie – it was much better, and even made sense.
I saw Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen when they were done being famous. Anyone remember Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks?
Hah! I WAS a Starship Trooper, back during the Bug Wars. (Said in a rheumy, phlegm-filled voice from behind a haze of Chesterfield smoke in a corner of the bar, while scratching bewhiskered chin with prosthetic hand).
I even knew Commander Cody when he was Commando Cody
Aaaar matey, I saw ya there
Shouldn’t that be The Possibly No Longer Virgin Ben? Or The Theoretically No Longer Virgin Ben?
After Edwards quit, I voted for Barack in our caucus because I saw that young people were totally there for him. I know that young people have to be involved in the process, and they really got behind Obama. They vote three times, they become “regular voters.” This means just one more vote and they become part of the democratic process for good. More or less.
I do not think they would have been there for Hillary. The young are where it is at. I don’t think for one moment that Barack will forget them, because he has two children he loves “more than you can imagine,” or however he said it.
I am still in shock at the magnitude of the shift. W00T!!
I am unrequited lover of all things Dan Hicks/Hot Licks..
They could have invited the entire wingnut youth movement and added only one chair: Tony Mattera.
Looks like ‘paradigm shift’ really means ‘talking points to be maintained by self-appointed, self-indulgent assholes with better connections.’
I thought so!
Geez, what does Ben have against tolerance and diversity? I didn’t realize that private schools don’t bother to teach it. I think Ben thinks he’s a little bit better than his peer group who havn’t earned their moral stances like he has.
As long as we’re comparing lengths/depths of knowledge and history, I’ve personally been to Hell’s Half Acre, where part of Starship Trooper was filmed.
I’m a big fan of dan hicks. however, He is a total a-hole in person. But it makes sense if you think about it
Just because Ben is married now doesn’t mean he isn’t still a virgin.
And anyway, I thought that the paradigm shift was going to be to Truck Nutz For All!!
Yes, I got to meet him at a show and he was indeed a huge jerk.
How can we miss them if they won’t go away?
I think the surgery must have sharpened your snark. No reason at all to get excited about youth movements (as opposed to bowel movements). After all, they are only the future and everyone knows that conservatives always live in the (mythical) past.
Check the title of the post. Old vs young.

Bennie goes on to say the worst mass-murdering regimes have been led by the youth.
ok
Don’t trust Bennie! He wants to be the leader of youthful murderers!
Brent Bozell … Morton Blackwell … Grover Norquist … Al Regnery … Kelly-Ann Conway … Richard Viguerie
Kelly-Ann Conway?
Talk about your party favors.
If you are having a problem with pain, my friend with a debilitating pain injury (trigeminal demyelination) taught me a nifty little trick…
A (very) small amount of alcohol with hydrocodone has a multiplicative analgesic effect. In layman’s terms, about a 1/2 shot of booze works as an “activator” for pain relief when used with vicodin. The ethanol works on a different part of the opiate receptor (non-competitive antagonist), softening them up for opioid derivative happy feelings.
Most hydrocodone is doped up with acetaminophen as well, so too much booze will cause liver injury. Use with caution, cause liver damage is bad stuff.
I do. Even met one of the Lickettes back in the day. Damn good band.
Not directed at you or Tbogg, but if someone is still in pain short term after surgery, they need to call the doctor and explain that the post-op meds don’t work and they want to try something else. Some people do better on different, equivalent, pain drugs.
Liver damage is indeed a bad enough deal that I would not risk it for short term pain. If what you’re going through is temporary, there are better solutions than mixing booze and hydrocodone. Even gritting your teeth and bearing it is better as long as you know it’ll have to stop eventually, but definitely talk to your doctor before you go that route either. Most people don’t take a lot of pain meds and won’t know what will work and what won’t until they’re trying it. Doctors should understand that, and should be willing to give you a different prescription or dose once you establish their default isn’t working.
Long term and chronic pain are their own deal, and need their own coping mechanisms, and for some of it liver damage is a reasonable trade off. (TN and related issues are in that category, I’m guessing. My best to your friend, busterjonez.) You can get hydrocodone without acetaminophen, of course, though you’ll likely get a lecture because they assume it means you’re taking too much or drinking with it. It’s worth the lecture if you need it, though.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Shapiro starts a vlog of her own:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
Having seen Ms. Conway on the teevee, I’m going to guess she was invited because she has achieved an impressive level of obnoxious arrogance that puts her in the Bozell/Norquist league. The boyz knew they had to invite one of the wimmen so as not to look sexist, so why not honor that pissant Kelly-Ann? Bet she was thrilled.
It also provided Generation Y a chance to live out the precepts of their public school educations, which focused on changing the world, as well as diversity and tolerance.
This is all kinds of awesome. To normal functioning people this sentence reads like an inspirational message of reassurance — you know, for all its flaws, public school isn’t as hopeless or bad as we constantly hear: Even if you think they aren’t challenging our children enough, they still teach hope, tolerance and acceptance, ideas that of them self can change the world and bring it together!
But, as students of the right, we know this sentence to be a slam of public education because it teaches the horrors of tolerance, diversity and the notion that hope can change the world. Only to the bent, degraded idiots on the right can this be thought of as an effective line of attack. I mean seriously, does Ben expect this to stir the imagination of normal people to think: What other vile things are they teaching in public schools these days? The Biology of Evolution? The Science of Global Warming? The History of African-Americans in this country? It’s EVIL, I tells ya, EVIL! This isn’t the dinner party of your imagination douchebag. And you aren’t winning on points.
Or:
The right’s minority outreach program needs a little more finesse.
“In fairness, I’m told the group was small because the location would not permit a larger audience.”
I didn’t realize Hell was such a small place. Time for Satan to hire a contractor to remodel and enlarge the place.
Why do you bother to ask? Yes, of course it will be the usual no-bid cost-plus contract with Halliburton.
Heres the big question: Why in the world should we be excited about young Americans defining our politics?
Now that the maybe-not-virgin Ben is married he doesn’t think we should let young Americans define our politics? Do they put special aging compound in the punchbowl at wingnut weddings?
Never mind. Ben is still an idiot.
And to answer his Big Question: Because those of us who really are old are getting tired. It’s been exhausting trying to keep the ship afloat till our young people could take over and put to use the education we worked so hard to give them. It’s not that it’s so hard to run the ship, it’s just that trying to keep it steady and going forward while the likes of Ben’s “prominent conservative senior leaders” kept getting drunk and trying to push us overboard made it more of a chore than it needed to be.
Maybe it’s a good thing that Ben is so worried about not getting invited to the Super Secret Wingnut Seniors Regatta, because trying to get in on that action will keep him occupied while our other young people get something useful accomplished.
I just had to email Not Virgin Anymore Ben when I read the above excerpt. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.
Still don’t get it, this is a lame post. This should be called the stupid vs the ignorant…would be a little more accurate
If the article was meant to compare the old conservatives vs the young conservatives, it was done poorly. Even if it was done well, who honestly cares?
BTW: Funny thing from old HS concerning some of the yout’s that were supporting Obama http://www.bucksright.com/howa…..arlem-1804
Even if it was done well, who honestly cares?
But I see that Howard Stern matters dude. Is he still alive?
Holy crap! Wild in the Streets was on this morning. I watched it for a few minutes before going to work. I had never heard of it before. It looks like it was pretty hilarious.
I saw Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks at Max’s Kansas City with Little Feat. Even spoke a little with Lowell George. Told him how much I liked “The Brides of Jesus.”
For those who are interested, Dan Hicks is touring again.
Is that a concern troll among us?
