It’s over with. I understand that the kids got some kind of in-school-suspension for a couple of days, and my son had to explain to our Karate teacher why he used Karate outside of Karate class, and what he did. Things work out.
I guess the other kids in school are looking at my son a little differently now.

Catherine Vogt, 14, is an Illinois 8th grader, the daughter of a liberal mom and a conservative dad. She wanted to conduct an experiment in political tolerance and diversity of opinion at her school in the liberal suburb of Oak Park.

She noticed that fellow students at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School overwhelmingly supported Barack Obama for president. His campaign kept preaching “inclusion,” and she decided to see how included she could be.

So just before the election, Catherine consulted with her history teacher, then bravely wore a unique T-shirt to school and recorded the comments of teachers and students in her journal. The T-shirt bore the simple yet quite subversive words drawn with a red marker:

“McCain Girl.”

And the other students learned where trolls come from.

Soonergrunt’s son is my hero too, and I’m glad it is on video, yet sad to know there is video surveillance in middle/high school.

“Assassinate” and “Kate” rhyme nicely, and you know how kids love that for taunts. Kate is probably the class liberal, and thus marked for endless torment (I remember it well). “Assassinate” and “Obama” however is clearly the result of having fucktards and douche nozzles for parents.

FFS, I thought that we were done discussing politics on a junior-high-school level now that Palin was back in Alaska.

soonergrunt, that completely rocks–that your kid was able to fend off the bullies, and had the sense to walk into the nearest classroom. Kudos to you for raising a great kid.

I’m currently involved in a situation with my son’s middle school here in OKC. The day after the election, the Government and History teacher asked the students what they thought of the election. It seems to be a ‘teachable moment’ well in line with the purview of the class. This being Oklahoma, my son was the only kid who spoke up about how glad he was. This led to several of the students attacking him with statements like “you’re a communist” and “terrorist supporter” and so on. The teacher had to stop the discussion. In the hall after class, a couple of them jumped my kid, and discovered to their dismay that he’s been studying karate since he was six.
Yesterday I was in the principal’s office threatening a lawsuit over the principal wanting to suspend him for fighting. The surveillance video clearly shows him getting struck first, and then reacting, followed by him not doing anything more than necessary and walking into the nearest classroom (where he told the teacher there what happened.)

Sorry, didn’t read closely enough to realize it was middle school. Even better. I certainly recall my middle school as a bastion of tolerance, politeness and perfectly grammatical speech.
