Coming next season to NBC: Fred Thompson in Dick Wolf’s Law & Order R.S.V.P.:
Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson is going back to the small screen after his foray into Republican presidential politics over the last year.
Thompson, best known on TV for his role as a gruff district attorney on NBC’s "Law & Order," dropped out of the crowded GOP primaries in January after his much-anticipated presidential campaign failed to gain strong support among conservatives.
He campaigned heavily for eventual nominee John McCain, and had recently tried to gain support to be in charge of the Republican National Committee.
But his former finance chairman, B.C. "Scooter" Clippard, said Thompson told him Wednesday that he was returning to acting and dropping his RNC bid.
"He seriously considered it, but he called and said that it was not in the cards," Clippard said.
Clippard said he did not know which television programs might be interested in Thompson.
"He has some wonderful opportunities back in the television market that probably financially far outweigh being chair of the RNC," Clippard said.
I hear the golf cart chases are awesome. It’s Must Senior TV……

How about this? Fred could star in a show about Gruff District Attorney Arthur Branch in retirement. He moves to Tennessee, fails ludicrously in his attempt to gain higher elective office, then tries to become the chair of his party’s national committee and fails at that. Then his attractive younger wife puts him the home, and he’s never heard from again.
I kind of liked ole grandpa Fred, how could you not like someone running for President who didn’t even want the job?
And vonZeppelin needs to write a script immediately.
Okay, let’s lay it out there, Fred is just lazy. Running a sinking ship is hard. Reading lines in a slow, tired drawl? Easy.
I was in El Cajon recently. I can’t say I was impressed, but people were nice. Um, and it was hot.
VonZeppelin, when you sell the script, please let us know which network picked it up. We can all show up at Tbogg’s house to have a “Pilot” party.
I personally look forward to seeing him as Corpse of the Week on CSI: Miami. Horatio Caine will take on the job of consoling the young widow, of course.
Is that picture from Reno 911 2045? Lt. Dangle’s not looking too good there on the end.
Ya know those fucking old republican fucks?
Fuck those fucking old republican fucks.
The networks have tried all sorts of things to win back their audiences. Maybe lethargy will do it for them. How about a reality shoe titled; “Fred Takes a Shit”?
A reality shoe? Coffee!
Maybe it’s what Ed Sullivan used to call “a really big shoe.”
Don’t mince words, tell us how you really feel…
I see Fred moving (?) into voicing animated (again, ?) characters, as it involves the least amount of work on his part. Perhaps he could become the voice of a gruff yet folksy old dog on some Nicktoon…
Jon Stewart already pointed out what cartoon character Fred is during the RNC convention: Foghorn Leghorn. And Holy Joe is Droopy Dog.
It’s obvious, isn’t it — he’s simply heading south for the winter, biding his time and catching up on some napping before the whole show starts over again for the ‘12 GOP primaries… He’ll be back, no doubt about it. Joined by candidates Lieberman (D/R/I-any state that’ll have him) and Goldberg (Liberal Fascists), all looking to take the shiny toy away from that black fellow…
GOP Rank & File: “Remember the Alamo!”
Fred: “Uh, no, I don’t; why do you ask?”
And now…Topo Gigio!
Even the reality-challenged rethugs saw the fail written all over having Thompson in charge of the party organization. Too bad; it would have at least been entertaining, in a destroy-them-and-salt-the-earth sort of way.
I hear he is working on a “Matlock” revival.
“Scooter”
???
There’s another “Scooter?”
This must be a photo of the El Cajon, California Wilford Brimley Auxiliary Police. La Mesa, next door, also has a WB contingent.
Isn’t that Judge Judy (second from the right)?
I can’t pick him out of the line up. In ten years or so, he’ll be shriveled enough to play the Hallmark Channel’s “Life of Krusty”.
Ron Howard isn’t working on *another* Cocoon sequel, is he?
I’d call it Law & Order: AARP.
That photo is too precious!
Whenever I think of Fred Thompson I think of the SNL line “how much do I want to be president? On a scale of 1 to 10, about a six.”
Whenever I think of Foghorn Leghorn, I think of Senatah Warnah, of Virginyah.
Funny post with funny comments. I gotta get over hyah, I say, I got to get over hyah mo often.
Speaking of Lieberman, there’s a pic of him in the Credo Mobile ad over the caption, “Switching is easy.” Heh.
