Eight teams with 6-6 records are going to bowl games filling up ESPN’s dance card through December.
Yes. Even Notre Dame got a bowl bid where they will probably play a team made up of twelve year-old blind girls. I predict that Notre Dame, after finally scoring with five minutes left before the half, will show no mercy and will mercifully break their nine game bowl losing streak.
Charlie Weis will then get a five year extension.

Whatcha think of the wholly manufactured national championship game? Oklahoma lost to Texas (by 10), and still is ranked higher (even though Texas lost only to Texas Tech on a last second miracle). florida lost to Ole Miss (they still have a team?) and is now ranked #1. Penn State lost on a last second field goal, and they are 8th. Even for college football, this year is nutty. But never fear, florida’s timmy tebow is being pushed up front by the national media (nevermind the inconvienent fact that he is more suited to run the florida chapter of the christian taliban than a football team). Corruption isn’t just for government, folks!
Silly TBogg – bowl bids aren’t made for getting in quality teams, they’re for made getting quality ticket buyers. ND alums are the free-spendingest idiots this side of the Mississippi, allowing the bowl sponsors to actually sell out their shitty 500 team vs. some football analogous “Washington Generals” crapfest – probably get broadcast, too.
Huzzah for rich idiots getting everything they want!
The “Fallin’ Irish” are playing Hawaii in Hawaii, the latter has a 7 and 6 record.
The Irish will lose.
I will laugh.
I just wish Michigan could somehow lose again in December.
And they ask me why I fucking hate bowl games.
The Minnesota Gophers are going to a bowl game, despite losing 55-0 at home against Iowa (rated in the 26-30 vicinity).
Bowl games sure mean lots & lots!

“I just wish Michigan could somehow lose again in December.”
Watch hockey. Michigan is 9-7. Get your fill.
Ah, Attaturk, my husband would love you. [He’s an OSU alum.] But watch out for Marcy.
Isn’t it just wonderful that there’s a mechanism in place to make certain the the “right” colleges get a bowl game? Heaven knows what sort of riff-raff would get in if a bowl spot had be earned via play offs.
Man, Boise State got jobbed. They are 12-0 and weren’t even able to get into the premier San Diego area Bowl Game. Hell, I’m from San Diego and have attended more than my share of Holiday Bowls and I’m only vaguely aware of the Poinsettia Bowl. When did that start?
Merit? What a concept!
Who cares. Rice made it to a bowl game and has a chance to win 10 games (first time since Truman was President!!).
It’s not even the TV time. It is that every city thinks they can put on a bowl game and get tourism dollars.
Why is Boise State not going to a BCS bowl again?
heh heh, the Pointsettia Bowl is the lowest of the lowest – a $500,000 payout – and they get #9 vs #11!
Nice bowl system ya got there. Two teams that should be playing in the 5th or 6th top bowl are playing in the 25th.
The Pointsettia Bowl was created a few years back in hopes that SDSU could get into SOMETHING – of course they haven’t.
If I Boise State I’d be pretty unhappy. OTOH, there are worse places you could be sent to play than SD.
Penn State is going to get CRUSHED by USC.
Ohio State will get CRUSHED by Texas.
The Big 10 will be revealed for the fraud that it is.
I remember in my lifetime that ND wouldn’t even play in a bowl. They had a vote of the team to go to the Cotton Bowl and knock the snot out of those Protestant Longhorns back in the early seventies.
They(ND) are a victim of the demise of the American empire, no more ethnic Catholics in steeltowns with big mean kids whose parents and parish priest forced them into labor for teh fuggin pope.
And yes the Big Ten is as legitimate a league as Big John Cornyn is a cowboy.
Is that picture demeaning to the Irish? I think so, and as an Irishman, I’d challenge you to a fistfight but I’m too drunk right now.
I don’t want to hear word one about how “the culture of Affirmative Action and that psychobabble regarding the preservation of our children’s precious self-esteem” is ruining higher education, from the alumni associations of the above-shamed schools.
SDSU has stunk ever since Marshall Faulk left for the pros.
Take the blind girls and give the points.
Like Detroit, for the Dead Auto Finance Company Used To Be the Motor City Bowl.
The soft bigotry of low expectations.
Screw the economy.
I don’t need no stinking job. No freaking health care. Roads to drive on. Whatever.
But I do need a fucking college football playoff, and that should be President Obama’s very first act – to establish one, by fiat if necessary. Enough of this foolishness. How fun would it be to see OU and Boise State go at it again, after vanquishing all those pretenders?
And I say this as someone transplanted to Oklahoma some years ago and married to an OU alum.
*cough* Boomer Sooner! *cough*
I said to a friend of mine (voted for McCain, but overall a generally likeable guy) at work, that if Obama fixes the economy, and puts together a college football playoff system, a good chunk of the country would be willing to make him President for life.
WTF? Bowl games on January 8th? Why not the night before March Dumbness? That pretty much kills the “long season” argument against a playoff system.
And to make it all worse I have to watch my alma mater get its ass handed to it by the N-4-kNowledge Nebraska Bugeaters. I hate that team more than the Golden Pedophiles.
Different crowd in here when footsball is the topic. Nothing wrong w/ it, just different.
Actually the Dead Auto Finance Company Bowl is its own bowl down in Mobile. Which begs the question – where do you want to go as a reward – Detroit or Mobile?
Someone must’ve crushed one too many cockroaches to get that kind of karma.
Wouldn’t that be eleven blind girls, each one year old? Or maybe you are adding a kicker for special teams plays.
I’m really bummed that USC is required to play in the Rose Bowl, and to play the Big 10 “champion.”
A MUCH better game would be USC-Texas.
