Happy Holidays from Basset Past, Basset Present, and Basset Future and, you know, those of us who live in their shadows. As Gene Lyons wrote (thanks to lingin):
The symbolic meaning of bassets is they make you laugh every day.
Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town, or borough, in the good old world. Some people laughed to see the alteration in him, but he let them laugh, and little heeded them; for he was wise enough to know that nothing ever happened on this globe, for good, at which some people did not have their fill of laughter in the outset; and knowing that such as these would be blind anyway, he thought it quite as well that they should wrinkle up their eyes in grins, as have the malady in less attractive forms. His own heart laughed: and that was quite enough for him.

And a very happy bassets to you and yours!
Is it true every time a basset howls, an angel gets his wings?
It’s fitting that Satchmo is at the top of the basset pyramid where he remains to this day and forever more, drooling over his loved ones when he’s not chasing rainbows.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and may you roast many wingnuts over open blistering fires in the new year, from a very – make that extremely – snowy Vancouver. Naturally we’re enjoying every moment of this wintery torture because it beats the usual gloomy rain. With vintage port and $23.00 goat brie cuz we’re rich liberals.
Merry Christmas, you guys.
I’ve never bought a goat. Is $23.00 a lot to pay for one that you can make brie from?
Very best wishes to all of the residents of TBogginvilla, and their many visitors.
You must have played hell trying to time the tongues. Are they mocking us? Or just laughing in their hearts?
Mr. xpurg8d and I just discovered in the past week that we will become first-time grandparents in the new year. Our hearts are full of joy and moreso because the new little family member will be born when someone decent is the president.
Good tidings to all. May you all have something wonderful to celebrate.
thanks for the pix of satcho, boggs. i know his loss still hurts. i watched the you tube video you posted when you write of his passing recently and i burst into tears. hold your dominion. and merry christmas.
Greetings of the season! And yes, the bassets make me laugh, but that little Fenway causes me to swoooooooon!
May 2009 be looking up for us all.

Merry Christmas from Miss Kify the basset, who is celebrating her 15th Christmas..she will be suitably spoiled, as I hope Beckham and Fenway will be. In any case, they would probably just take what they want anyway. I am missing out on a family Christmas to stay with Miss Kify and my lab-mix (Mocha). What can I say, she was my first baby and is the best basset in the world:) (By that I mean she trained me well).
I know Satchmo is hanging out with the basset pack at the Rainbow Bridge and wishing you a happy holiday season…and shaking his head over Fenway’s antics:)
It has come to my attention that there are a large number of basset hound addicts here. For your own safety, please, seek treatment for this addiction. Perhaps get a cat or a hamster, just so you can see what life is like without the bassets. If you don’t, then you all run the risk of being hopelessly mired in the world of long ears and sad eyes and rumpled fur and stout little features and…
Oh my God. I’m becoming trapped in the basset world. They’re just so awesome — no, must fight it — too… cute… can’t… hold… out…
Merry Christmas. No bassets here but, tomorrow is the “birthday” of our rescue mutt: a ten pound terrier/poodle (We think) mix we found at our local Animal Control.
Merry Christmas, DennisSGMM- rescuing pooches & kits is the best, in’ it? Got 3 of my own that my love Marie Roget god rest her, and I took into our home over these past years. I miss Marie the most today of all days.
Best luck with that mutt of yours.
There’s a place down the hill from us called Surfing Goat Dairy. They make the best goat cheese on the island. [There are a LOT of goats on Maui!!!]
I’ll have check to see if they do brie.
You were saving that picture just for today, weren’t you?
Anyway, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Good Solstice to all the TBoggs and TBoggians.
Thanks to all of you for another year of “a Daily Dose of Snark”.
Merry Xmas, Tbogg and bassets and all y’all FDLers.
FunnyD
comfort and joy to you Kiwi – Ms Marie muchly is missed muchly – we were fortunate to enjoy her company
My bassets, Molokai and Maggie, send Happy Holidays wishes to the bassets of Casa Tbogg. And we miss Maui and Kona too, just as you miss Satchmo. I must admit, however, I was expecting pictures of the boys’ Christmas: Fenway eating the tree, Beckham tearing apart the presents, etc….
A little pinch at the heart to see Satchmo the Good on Christmas Day, but thanks for the remembrance, TBogg.
We kept a warm Christmas here at Schloss von Zeppelin, with family and our mystery mutts, Sam and Max, Freelance Dogs.
The benisons of the season to all of the human and canine TBoggs, the TBogg commentariat, and bassets everywhere. God bless us, every one.
Thank you, you’re very kind, as all here have been. I miss her like hell. She’s the best person I ever knew.
