Lobi Traore, Tinariwen, Rokia Traore, Soungalo Coulibaly — Sarahan West Africa is putting out some truly insanely great root blues rock. Tinariwen makes my hair stand up on end.</p> <p>Mali blues: it’s more than just an Ali Farka Toure segue on NPR.</p> I discovered Amadou et Mariam from this album, but their older stuff is shit hot as well. That entire album, ‘Cast of Thousands,’ is very worth a pickup. </p> <p>I can’t bring myself to hate Vampire Weekend no matter how annoying they aspire to be. Just a precocious kid blessed with middling musicianship and fantastic songwriting skills.
