Recently, over at The Moderate Voice, Tony Campbell took the legacy of Bush and tried to make Bush-ade:
A bit about my history with the outgoing Bush Administration: I volunteered, worked as a paid advance staffer, and served in two transition teams for President George W. Bush from June of 1999 through the summer of 2002. I worked for him because I believed in his message of “Compassionate Conservatism” and I still think that he was the best candidate to become President of the United States in 2000. In 2002, I resigned from my presidential appointment because of White House’s change in direction for domestic policy.
I read with interest the transcript of the interview with Secretary of State Condi Rice and I have to agree with her assertion that history will take a much kinder look at Bush’s presidency than his current critics because of one unmistakable fact… we have not been attacked again. Yes, I know that the economy is in a shambles; our foreign goodwill is at an all time low; his approval rating is hovering around 25%; and he will not be up for any academic prizes in the near future, BUT all of that is secondary to the fact that we live in a world where there are organized people who have stated their wish to attack the United States again through terrorist activities and they have been unsuccessful.
Not so fast there lil leg-humper.
This morning: a devastating attack on our freedom and liberty and other God-given stuff:
Hamas H.Q. Bombed; Power Line, too
Talk about disproportionate response. Just an hour or so after Power Line posted a series of videos from the Israeli Defense Forces–videos that, as Scott discovered, YouTube had pulled–we experienced a Denial-of-Service attack from a cabal of a half-dozen servers in the U.S. The attack sought to make Power Line and the videos we are hosting inaccessible by overloading our server. Our data center promptly registered the attack, and then defeated it by placing Power Line behind an advanced computer called a Cisco Guard. This device recognize(sic) malicious Internet traffic and defeats it.
Yet it does not strike one as quite right that Islamists can will good content out of existence, does it? So we’ve placed the IDF videos on a Content Delivery Network, which is a network of hundreds of computers throughout the world. When you click on a video, the version nearest you will be delivered to your computer. This will make these videos, and all future PL videos, very easy to watch. The decentralized nature of the network will make them difficult to attack.
Years from now at 101st Fighting Keyboarders Old Veterans Home and Euthanasia Emporium, I can imagine the Power Line boys sitting around a pinochle table trading war stories with Hugh Hewitt and Dr. Rusty Shackleford while nursing their carpal-tunnel crippled wrists until an orderly drops a metal tray and they simultaneously shit their pants at the sudden noise.
War is hell. And messy.

It is to wonder about how all these folks seem to forget about the anthrax attacks.
It must be because it was sent to folks like Senator Leahy and various members of the media. After all, who cares if some Democrats and reporters are attacked and killed
Denying video war-pron to the members of the 101st is certainly something for them to get very, very upset about. That darned Viagra is expensive dontcha know!
So smart of them to announce the attacks, describe them in detail (charts even!) then tell the attackers the make and model of the hardware they’ve procured to protect themselves. Loose lips sink ships, lads! That moll reading your website might be purdah! Who knows what intelligence you’ve provided to your attackers?
Oh, and yeah — anthrax, bitchez.
“…we have not been attacked again” has to be the singularly most pathetic attempt at justifying the past eight years.
We have not been spared because of anything Dubya and his brigade of asshats have done; on the contrary, pretty much everything they’ve done since 9/11 (up to and including breathing) has increased the odds that we would be attacked again: antagonized and alienated our allies; pissed off large parts of the world by bombing it, insulting it, or killing its children; worn our armed forces threadbare; squandered our treasury; crippled our infrastructure, both physical and administrative; played lose and fast with our laws to the point where we more resemble a banana republic than a beacon of democracy; etc. etc.
Really, it’s nothing but sheer luck (or, perhaps, a mix of pity and schadenfreude on the part of the world’s terrorists: “by Allah, look at those Americans; they’re doing their country more damage with Bush at the helm than we could ever hope to inflict. Let them be for now; let us instead study this Sarah Palin calendar that my brother Ahmed sent me…”) that some pissed off group of radicals hasn’t smuggled a dirty nuke thru our lame and woefully inadequate “homeland security” fence (anything left under the control of Chertoff and Lieberman is just asking to be fucked with) and made Katrina look like a picnic by comparison.
And as everyone has already pointed out, it’s as if the anthrax attacks simply didn’t happen — they’re never mentioned, and there seems to be no interest in discovering who was behind them, not by the media, not by the authorities. Zip. Nada. Makes me feel oh, so safe. Not.
Can apologists for war criminals also be charged with war crimes?
Lincoln was never assassinated again.
But there was that one.
And the last time we were attacked before that? Why in 1993, when Al Qaeda attacked … guess what? …. The World Trade Center! Yet these putrescent elephant turds have the audacity to crow about Dubya’s major accomplishment in disregarding an intelligence briefing warning that they were going to do it again. There is no place in hell worthy of these asshats.
People forget that the FBI stumbled on to these terrorists in two different states. They all felt they had a significant find. Of course once the news got to the political level of Justice, it was doomed. Talk about taking strike three, between the estimate and the actual police work, those shitheads had most the pieces in their hand…
That would be what 4K plus counts of murder for all of bushco?
They all change the narrative from ‘we sufferred our worst attack on Bush’s watch’ to ‘we weren’t attacked again’. I think as things become known, Bush will be known as the pres who was asleep at the wheel while our enemies plotted against us.
They’ve been verrrrry successful in pushing that spin. I will be steadfast in countering it with the truth.
Really, it’s nothing but sheer luck
Luck, hell. Why waste resources? Another terror attack wouldn’t buy them much more confusion than the Bush Administration provides freely, and always runs the risk of George blowing up the whole damn world (Mr. bin Laden doesn’t seem to be all that eager to meet Allah in person). It would be a case of diminishing returns – why waste a setup when it is unlikely to provide any benefit worth the risk?
That “prevented us from being attacked again” is ridiculous. 1993-2001 is eight years, so either a) Bill Clinton did a hell of a job keeping the now yearly attacks at bay, or b) the attacks are still eight years apart any Der Chimperor hasn’t done squat.
Man, how badly do these folks need a daddy figure that a retarded fratboy can suffice?
I’m sure the PowerTools assume that history will remember them kindly, as well. And they’re just a correct as Condi and Laura were this past weekend.
Remember the Beltway Sniper Murders? Two guys shooting an M16 knockoff through a hole drilled in the trunk of a ‘91 Caprice manged to kill ten people and throw a good sized part of the East Coast into chaos. Of course no terrorist could come up with a semi-automatic rifle and a ‘91 Chevy. They couldn’t possibly slip into the US the same way hundreds of thousands of others have slipped past Bushco’s eagle eye either. Nope, the same administration that fucked up every other thing it put its hand to had 100% success in preventing terrorist attacks. Riiiiiiiiight.
In what Universe of “we” do “we” not include our brave fighting men and women? More than 30,000 of them are casualties and 4,000+ are dead in Iraq alone.
Would these people tell Cindy Sheehan that her son Casey (and the seven others that died with him that day) “haven’t been attacked”?
Why do Conservatives hate the military and our soldiers so much that they maintain that they are, as individuals and as a unit, no longer a part of “the United States” when stationed to fight for our freedoms in the Green Zone?
“Bin Laden determined to strike US.”
Fine. You’ve covered your ass, let me get back to clearin’ brush.
I’m sure PowerWank is HUGE on the target list of islamofascist “servers in the U.S.”.
Or maybe they were overwhelmed by FoxNews fans eager to see some wogs get killed.
I don’t have the stats, but Occam’s razor often provides.
The Power Line Boyz.
Tough. Smart. Good Looking. Effective.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time for the Year End Reality Check.
According to the FBI, they have no hard evidence bin Laden was behind the attacks of 9/11.
http://www.informationclearing…..e13664.htm
Why this fact doesn’t resonate more is a bit of a mystery to me.
Oh well. Have a Happy New Year, campers!
(And don’t spill the Kool-Aid — it stains like a motherfucker.)
Yep, except for the anthrax and the usual home-grown right wing violence, we haven’t been attacked again. Of course, the fact that George W let New Orleans drown may just have been a sign to the jihadists that they didn’t need to attack us at home again since we were letting our own incompetent government destroy our own country in record time.
There were 8 years between the first and second WTC attacks. Bless Bill Clinton for keeping us safe.
Bin Laden didn’t have to attack again. Bush finished the destruction for him.
Thanks TBOGG.
Perhaps we haven’t been attacked again because those who attacked us have completed their mission and accomplished their goals…
No attack necessary mission accomplished democracy destroyed by BushCo:
Another brutal year for liberty; Glenn Greenwald
“…For the last seven years, Democrats have repeatedly cited GOP political dominance to excuse their wholesale failures to limit, let alone reverse, the devastating war waged by the Bush administration on America’s core liberties and form of government. With a new Democratic president and large majorities in both Congressional houses, those excuses will no longer be so expedient. As dark and depressing as these last seven years have been for civil libertarians, culminating in an almost entirely grim 2008, there is no question that the Obama administration and the Democrats generally now possess the power to reverse these abuses and restore our national political values. But as the events of the last 12 months conclusively demonstrate, there are substantial questions as to whether they have the will to do so.”
The purpose of the attack on 9/11 was to ruin our economy and our way of life guess what ……………….. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED Why the hell would they need to attack again.

Wasn’t Bin Laden standing in front of a “Mission Accomplished” banner in one of his videos?
New Year’s Resolution…Please support.
I will continue to fight for my constitutional rights and reverse the unconstitutional actions of Bushco, The Republican Party and The Democrats that made it all possible.
Happy New Year
Gosh I owe a bunch of drinks
469 hrs & 42 min
But, but, they have some grasp on reality…
Give ‘em a little credit…!
amen.
Does this mean no oratory awards *g*
469 hrs & 34 min
They are caught between wishing for another attack and resting on their laurels in comfort of the return of an Obama backlash a-la Jimmy Carter style.
Who knows, in terms of the potential Carter style backlash, the likes Harry leaderless and Joe Lie may be the best friends Republicans ever had.
OT. but I need a little help. We’re going to an emergency protest on Sat. in Seattle, against the brutal, evil actions of our ally, Israel.
My dilema. I’m bring my Jail Bush sign but I want to write the Israeli leader’s name in orange over Bush. What is the name of the man who ordered this onslaught? It’s not Olmert, or is it.?.
Thanks for any ideas.
We have witnessed the:
“The Protect America Act”
The Military Commission Act
The PAtriot Act
FISA Amendments Act
And Barack Obama’s breaking his pledge to filibuster that telecom immunity giving Bushco a pass on their criminal enterprize and now the gift to Wall Street criminal enterprises of our Treasury.
With friends like these who needs enemies?
dakine01 (and discoclark66 and gmoke and oldoilfieldhand and foothillsmike) are all correct, and let me add, who’s this “we” who haven’t been attacked again? Our allies in England and Spain and Mumbai, and numerous other places around the world — they’ve all been attacked, but since they’re not Murkans they don’t count?
These people make selfishness not merely a virtue but a goal.
I have to ask – do you have a clock that runs backwards or do you count on your fingers? “g”
Current Prime Minister: Ehud Olmert
If in doubt, substitute Rick Warren. Bit of a non sequitur but what the heck.
I agree with you, Twain; with the efforts of Bu$h Co and the other Screw America First crowd essentially finishing Bin Laden’s work, vis-a-vis the economy, there has been little call for ‘foreign assistance’.
Trashing the Constitution was a added ‘perk’ …
And recent events in Gaza certainly add to the ‘package’ …
Purty good ‘return’ on the (relatively ‘cheap’) ‘investment’ of 9/11 (whoever was behind it).
A shame Jerry Falwell isn’t around to set us “straight” on that.
Those too… Btw, SNL must bemoan their impending doom…!
Yes. Wonder what he’s up to (or perhaps down to), these days?
;~p
Damned ironic if he found himself goin’ down.
I understand that some handbaskets are reputed to have vanished from Cheney’s safe. Happened about the time that unexplained conflagration took place, if memory serves …
RepackRider officially wins the internet.
How much you want to bet that Cheney’s “man-sized” safe features a glory hole?
It amazes me that all these envelopes of white powder recently sent to all these public figures doesn’t even factor into the frigging news! ” Just a little stupid white powder from a stupid wanna be”, more news at eleven…..or not .
Sometimes it feels like we’re being driven into the fog of propaganda so fast that the average Reality Show watching Americans will never really wake up fast enough.
No wonder our elected officials live in fear. One day white powder kills people, the next it’s just a sorry act of losers. Nothing to investigate. No big deal.
I’m thinking Karl Rove has hit on a really cheap way to intimidate Congress without a public reaction of fear.
Cool, thank you. And it fits perfectly into the artsy-fartsy design of my sign.
For some reason I thought Olmert was no longer calling the shots.
So much to keep up on. So little time.
We have not been attached again is the best they got? Tell me how does Bush attacking Iraq stop Ossama in Pakistan?
That Kool Aid must have one Hell of a Half Life.
When and where in Seattle I might show:)
Harder for him to hatch plots while he’s doubled over laughing.
Well, double check, please. I’m a mere student of this nightmare. That said, I’m not sure naming one is the best tack… since all major candidates in the upcoming Israeli elections may have much the same intentions as old Ehud.
Well, I wouldn’t want to bet against the likelihood of such a ‘feature’, but like so many things, we prolly ain’t gonna get to “know the half of it”, what with the Sunstein Doctrine and the legitimate role of secrecy in the complex, world-dominating and vibrant Demock-crazy we had the distinct good fortune to have been wise enough to have been born in. I do worry ’bout the effect of all them furriners though, as regards our precious body-politic fluidities, donch ya know?
Bush will go down in history as the guy who couldn’t find a six-foot-six dialysis patient in a desert.
I take it you refer to our incalculable loss of essence?
That’s alright, Emerila can always make more.
Convenient and if I may, “stunningly superficial”.
The SINGLE largest attack on American soil to date, happened while George W. Bush was President.
Okay, I off to dance in a community-tribal hoe down. So awesome. All ages until the children go home to sleep!! Then it rocks!
I’d love to give a plug for the band, Spoonshine. Incredible young musicians in a Indy-World music kind of way. Eddie Vedder just took them under his wing so hopefully the rest of ” the people” can discover their infectious sound!
May the New Year be a year when our voices are heard and people find a common bond of humanity.
Give peace a chance.
Yeah Ossama is laughing at us we need to fire every general who agreed with Bush. If you can’t say no to a bad plan you have to expect to get fired. Thats why they get the big bucks they are responsible its not like Generals are Corporate CEO’s they have an important job.
CEO’s in Japan and Generals would have all committed suicide by now I think we should adopt the practice.
The American celebrity chef, restaurateur, television personality, and cookbook author has a recipe for essence?
He is the official “Keeper of the Essence.”
It looks bad on a sign to have Jail….Israel. I’m going with Olmert. He’s the fucker that designed this horror. And we’ve got a modicum of public recognition in the “name brand”. At least among the Jews.
Peace
Yeah? Well so whut. Bu$h is a natural asselete, shoe enough.
And that 78 inch guy prolly ain’t even there, anyhoo, so t’aint fearlesses’ asphalt.
How you gonna feel when da prez gets his head up there on Mt. Rushmore, provin’ that we have moved on to post-partisan pastures?
Sorry, EDP, just couldn’t resisticate.
(Must be year-end disturbances to the fluxilatoring transition matrix threaderators … movin’ from “8″ to “9″ …)
;~D
Wow, judging from the ingredients that would burn
likeout the dickens.Generally speaking, yes, you ‘ripped’ it, Jack.
Don’t forget the shoe bomber, I know I don’t every time I go to the airport. Really if you factor in the millions of hours of lost productivity from us taking off our shoes every time we go through security the cost must be extraordinary. I am thinking in the tens of billions of dollars.
And yet they make such a big deal about the USS Cole! I always ask them about Reagan’s response to the Beirut Barracks bombing , which amounted to a sacrifice of 241 American servicemen. But in the usual fabulous “Great Communicator” style, St. Ronald’s response consisted of calling the attack a “despicable act” and swearing to maintain a military force in Lebanon, a brilliant strategic move which cost this writer a close personal friend for no fucking reason whatsoever.
There must have been some coded message to the assholes among us to take the left wing to task for every loss of twenty people or less and treat it in the harshest possible terms as the highest form of perfidy, while ignoring any and all incidents such as the Marine Barracks as minor miscalculations.
Right on the money, LittlePig. When you’re waging an asymmetrical campaign against a more powerful enemy you don’t waste resources. Bu$hco has done such damage to this country that bin Laden need only sit back and smile. He couldn’t have done a better job himself, and it’s cost him nothing since the initial atrocity.
Wow, Henry V on New Year’s Day. Hopefully a good year for Cobblers.
There it is again. The bushies will keep trotting out the “history will be kind” to dubya and “his presidency was tainted right from the start by the recall” storylines until the cows come home.
We may not have been attacked here a second time during Bush’s term, but apparently he gets a pass for the 9/11 attacks happening on his watch.
And these GOP folks – the self proclaimed masters of national security – seem to not get that a bad economy is a security issue.
The whole “we haven’t been attacked again” benchmark of presidential awesomeness not only leaves out anthrax.
First, I’m sure the families of the 4000 dead Americans and the tens of thousands of wounded Americans from the Iraq War consider their deaths and wounds from attacks and not accidents.
Second, if only being attacked twice on our own soil is a measure of a successful presidency, then shouldn’t Carter be one of our greatest presidents?
