An “OPEN” Letter to Henry Rollins
by Greg Gutfeld
Dear Henry,
I used to think you were pretty cool – way back when you fronted the greatest punk band ever (The Vandals), and well before you became a tedious purveyor of the “spoken word.”
Submitted for your approval: Greg Gutfeld isn’t even qualified to land a job folding t-shirts at Hot Topic.

Henry Rollins was way more interesting when he was writing under the pseudonym “Charles Bukowski”
I actually count two fails. One for thinking Rollins was in the Vandals, and two, for thinking that the Vandals were the greatest punk band ever. I’d consider ever liking Rollins to begin with a third fail, but I am not entirely sure Greg Gutfeld isn’t confused about who Henry Rollins even is.
They may not be the greatest ever, but Master Race in Outer Space and Anarchy Burger (Hold the Government) are pretty damn classic. And that’s just scratching the surface.
Why would anyone think that Henry Rollins was in the Vandals? They were a really fun and funny band, two things Henry really isn’t. He is intense! Strange that Gutfeld knows the Vandals (though not as well as he wishes) but apparently not Black Flag.
When the Vandals first showed up, they were hilarious. After the departure of Stevo, things started to go down the tubes. You really had to see them in the ‘80 through ‘85 era. Those first two records are great. No, definitely not the greatest ever but right up there.
I suppose Hot Topic are the ones selling all the Misfits shirts, ‘cuz I sure see a lot of ‘em on high school kids around here. “No, dude, you aren’t a rebel.”
dead kennedys and dickies and germs, but the silopsist plus mates wins out no doubt. My niece shops hot topic; prices there outrageous.
“Dear Glenn Danzig, I used to think you were pretty cool… when you fronted the greatest punk band ever (A-Ha)”
“Dear Joe Strummer, I used to think you were pretty cool… when you fronted the greatest punk band ever (Duran Duran)”
“Dear Bob Mould, I used to think you were pretty cool… when you fronted the greatest punk band ever (Hootie and the Blowfish)”
Why get all facty? I suppose that explains why Gutfeld is no longer an editor.
And something tells me this is more about you, than her.
…
Forget your music – this is what makes you truly, a punk.
And this guy is, an editor?
“Dear Mike Score, I used to think that you were pretty cool – way back when you fronted the greatest punk band ever (The Flock of Seagulls), and well before you became a tedious purveyor of used cars.
“Dear Ann Coulter, I used to think you were pretty cool…when you fronted the greatest metal band ever (Twisted Sister)”
That is just dripping with Win.
Dear Greg Gutfeld,
You were never cool. You will never be cool.
I have to go and make a new pot of coffee, then clean the spew off the keyboard, then the monitor. Thanks….
Priceless. My emphasis added in bold.
Only a wingnut can ridicule someone for using cliches, by using two cliches in the following sentence. We need a new, simpler term for wingnut unintentional irony. I suggest a “Gutfeld”.
Being uberuberuber-cool, I can remember when Henry Rollins’ first gig was as the front man for a band called SOA in DC. And his name was Henry Garfield at the time.
“Dear Siouxsie Sioux, I used to think you were pretty cool…when you fronted the greatest punk band ever (Katrina and the Waves)”
Who the F**K is Greg Gutfeld?
Shouldn’t he be writing open letters to the Jonas Brothers? Seems more his speed.
What’s really sad is that this guy is attacking Rollins for being years late in taking on Ann Cuntler, when the video he refs is like THREE FUCKING YEARS OLD!
Gutfeld is on something called “Browneye” or “Stinkeye” or “Redeye:” some right wing roundtable that nobody watches.
Yep, knowing Rollins came from SOA is uberX3-cool. That’s where he first started to hone his “I’m an angry young man” schtick. He did arrive on the national scene with Black Flag. To me, Black Flag was at their best when Dez sang – it was the most fun. A lot of that fun disappeared when Henry got the mic. As for his spoken word stuff, I thought Buzzo from the Melvins summed it up pretty well. He said (paraphrasing here), “I never got that whole Jim Morrison as poet thing. How’s that work, Morrison, Rollins, Longfellow?”
While I do case on Henry Rollins a bit, I have to say that he was always cool to me.
Gutfield, you are now permanently banned from setting foot in Mohawk Town, though you can wear your Viking Suit around that Bill Donahue guy anytime.
Billy Zoom uses Henry Rollins to clean his guitar picks.
See Henry Rollins’ show on IFC. Its a great show. Good music, interviews and Republican bashing.
What a weird mistake to make, like thinking Jim Morrison fronted the Loving Spoonful or something.
I mostly agree that Rollins is tiresome and unclever, but give him some props for the stuff that 2.13.69 has put out.
2.13.61, I mean.
I wonder if any of the Rollins haters realize that he doesn’t take himself nearly as seriously as they seem to.
I like the commenter who says “The ghost of Johnny Ramone wouldn’t piss on this guy if he was on fire.” Points for knowing (maybe) that Johnny is a Republican, but points off for thinking he’s one of the dead Ramones.
Uh, Johnny Ramone died Sept 15, 2004.
