That’s where he first started to hone his “I’m an angry young man” schtick. He did arrive on the national scene with Black Flag. To me, Black Flag was at their best when Dez sang - it was the most fun. A lot of that fun disappeared when Henry got the mic. As for his spoken word stuff, I thought Buzzo from the Melvins summed it up pretty well. He said (paraphrasing here), “I never got that whole Jim Morrison as poet thing.
