Back at the end of last year, oh so many weeks ago, I listed my ten favorite CD’s of the year but also noted that I hadn’t had a chance to hear the new Blitzen Trapper CD Furr about which I had heard many good things.
Furr easily stands out as one of the best from 2008. In feel it reminds me a lot of a folksier version of The Minus 5′s Down With Wilco and it’s quite a change from BT’s 2007 Wild Mountain Nation which was, to put it politely, a mess with some great songs scattered amongst the rubble.
Furr is highly recommended.

This “artist” makes me wonder why so many people who have an excellent, well developed sense of humor (& many other good qualities) so often enjoy horrid, wimpy, acoustic, limp, inhoffensive & humorless tunes, lyrics & performers.
No, really. I’ve noticed this phenomenon in other settings & contexts, even before the Intermess.
Yes, I’m hoffended. Why do you ask?
Thanks for the rec … I’ve got a 4-hr road trip today, this will be a great addition.
Really? By far, I preferred the rubble of Wild Mountain Nation. It seemed like they were going to go further into gnarled and angular, but instead came up with more polite folk-rock.
The Fleet Foxes do nothing for me either. Now i gotta dig up your Top Ten, as I’ve already forgotten it. Was the latest Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy on there?
Over-earnest and hoffensive music poseurs aside — great, great recommendation, TBogg. Thanks.
Tboggs taste in music is a little twangier than mine. Anyway, I’m only here for the snark, so I’m usually not hoffended.
This Blitzen Trapper album sounds like a cross between Petty on ‘ludes and a cleaned up Dylan. But what do I know from music?
