Sunday was bath day (for the dogs, that is) and that means Beckham did his usual burst out the bathroom to roll on anything fabric-y, in this case the comforter on the bed where he rolled around, barked (shrilly, I might add) and acted the all-around fool. Fenway took this to mean ‘play’ and there was great cavorting/biting/wrasslin’/barking for… minutes. I don’t know why we just don’t cover the bed with towels before the bath, but we’re kind of stupid that way. Later there were damp dogs spread out on the couches in the sun because, when you’re a basset in our house, life is good.
Honest. We don’t treat human guests this well, which is probably for the best because I have little desire to give them baths. Okay, maybe a light scrubbing, but no loofahs. I mean, this isn’t the Caribbean fercryinoutloud….
Dogs.

Is the framed photo – behind Fenway in the bottom left pic – of a basset hound? That is too funny.
I’m picturing Bogg Carstle and a majestic staircase lined with ornate paintings of Bogg Family Bassets dating back to the 1500s. Eyes following, of course. Human Boggs evolved later.
…and so Fenway stood athwart Beckham, barking “I am king of the bed!”
Though it’s been said many times, many ways,
Fenway is a cute little bastard.
That’s a framed picture of young Satchmo holding a tennis ball, so all of the boys are there except for Cooder The First Basset.

The framed picture is none other than our beloved Satchmo at a very young age and with a tennis ball in his mouth. The picture to left is one of my favorites of Tbogg and the L&T Casey taken when she was about 8. He was coaching her baseball team and they are both down on one knee (Casey is wearing number 5 with her back to us) in deep discussion about her next at bat. Along with soccer and basketball, she played 10 years of baseball (NOT softball) and had an absolutely beautiful swing. And as much as he has loved watching Casey play soccer, I know that coaching her in baseball was one of the high points in her growing up. Helped that she was always one of the best players on the team. I think his favorite part was saying , “Yeah…that’s my daughter” and having people respond, “Wow, she’s really good.” He is nothing if not a prod dad…one of his best qualities I might add.
TBogg, I’m becoming a fan of your handsome boys. Never specially had a thing for bassets before, your guys are becoming regular Thursday check-it-out routine. Cute guys.
Bless you for this weekly ritual, tbogg, because tonight I really needed it. Wooo-haw!
Thanks for enlightening me on the photo. It’s just so cute, in an Amelie way. I’ve often set pics of Satchmo as my desktop background because he’s one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen.
Ditto for Beckham and the Fenster.
Casey is one lucky gal to have you both as parents. I’m sure she knows it, too. (Bassets may be less cognizant.)
Satchmo was our heart and we miss him every day. It makes it a little easier knowing how much he touched all of you…
And Casey…we could not ask for a more wonderful, talented, smart, beautiful. amazing, loving daughter so I think the luck is really on our side .
And when is bath day for the Boggs?
I though the procedure was to keep their heads out of the water so that they can dry themselves with their ears.
You do know that your doggie pictures are better in so many ways (and not just ’cause the subject matter is cuter) than the “Pretty in Mink” conservative women’s calendar pictures.
So next year how about the TBogg Basset Calendar?
And will there be photos?
Fenway in mid-aroo. The cute, it burns!
Thanks tbogg, after reading Jane and emptywheel scourge the politicians I have to come here to get my blood pressure down. I’m trying to get pictures of my beastie to post but she’s still a pup and the shots come out blurred from the warp speed she uses.
I never thought I’d say this, but “Poor Beckham.”
Can we have Fenway audio? Please? Pretty please? With a Milk-Bone on top.
It seems very difficult to get a picture of Fenway where his tail is not blurred.
Fenway is the definition of perpetual motion…even in sleep he twitches.
