Now…lookin’ for the doggggzzzz
I’m leavin’ my fam’ly

My body’s at home
But my heart’s in the wind

On a new front page sky
My tears are salt water
And the moon’s full and high
And I know Martin Eden’s
Gonna be proud of me

To be up in the crow’s nest

Those first two Tom Waits records are the bomb. So many fine tracks. I don’t (seriously – not being hyperbolic) I don’t know why “Little Trip to Heaven” isn’t as well-known as any of the great love songs; “At Last,” “Unchained Melody,” “You are so Beautiful.” It’s a fucking great song.

Also the woefully underappreciated Glenn Hughes on bass. Bolin and Hughes make up for the fact that the singer is David Coverdale.
For a really good example of what a fine guitar player Tommy Bolin was, check out his work on Billy Cobham’s “Spectrum”.

I was surprised when sometime in the 1970s my father (born in 1909) told me that he liked Deep Purple.
Smoke On The Water – Deep Purple (dunh-duhn-duh duhn-duhn-duhduh)
Back in 19 and 93, The New Duncan Imperials opened for Mojo Nixon (and then backed him up). Part of their schtick when they introduced the members of the band was the bass player introing the guitarist: “…and he will now attimpt to play ‘Smoke on the Wudder’ with an oven mitt in his left hand!” They ceremoniously put the mitt on the guitarist’s non-strumming hand, and…dunh-duhn-duh duhn-duhn-duhduh…the dude fuckin nailed. It was awesome.
