Bobby Jindal’s presidential aspirations blew up tonight like a cheap condom on the end of a fire hose.
Let’s start from the beginning. I got home tonight too late to see either address. The lovely mrs tbogg, wine glass perched delicately in her elegant fingers, was sitting before the TV idly swirling her adult beverage. She turned to me and said in her deeply melodious voice, "That Jindal guy is a twerp."
That was one of nicer thing said about him this evening.
This one is not going to go away and it won’t need a Tina Fey to drive it like a stake into his heart.
Just watch.
How bad was it?
Townhall’s Amanda Carpenter has always struck me a young lady of simple All-American tastes, who would be dazzled by a fistful of carnations and the early bird special at Applebees. Tonight:
Well, I don’t feel as good about the Jindal response as I did earlier today.
There was a cheesy, salesman-like quality to the response that I don’t think connected with the Rick Santelli-inspired anger so many Republicans are feeling right now. And, I’m pretty sure he’s going to be SNL’s next target. His speech tempo was just, so weird.
Enough complaning from me. He didn’t pass the primetime test and it makes me sad. I don’t want to dwell.
Oh dear. One can almost see an evening spent on the couch beneath a Snugglie, a pitcher of Twisted Devils at hand and a Gretchen Wilson CD blasting away on the stereo until the police show up and pound on the door.
Speaking for the more or less Y chromosome side of the aisle, Ol’ Bacon ‘n Playdoh hisself:
Awful. He walked out like an earnest dork and has a weird inflection, trying to sound upbeat and sunny when it’s clearly not his natural metier. It sounds false, and he looks false.
I don’t care how much of a star Jindal is, America doesn’t elect somewhat-off dorks as president.
That’s Ace.
Calling someone else a "dork".
There’s not enough Bactine™ in the world to make that sting go away.

Yet another gift from the gods.
you misunderestimate the power of GOP denial – I mean, just look at how they still cling to Palin like she’s their only bottle of Gatorade in the midst of the Gobi
Gosh, it seems just yesterday they were dancing in the streets of Mumbai.
Jalai ho!
OMG. Jindal sounded EXACTLY like Kenneth the NBC Page from 30 Rock! SNL totally needs to get Jack McBrayer to play Bobby Jindal!
It’s a beautiful day in the French Quarter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wROwWvq6zvw
Sadly accurate. Repubs are claiming Lush Limpbaugh speaks for them as he’s literally freaking out on-air and very clearly promoting treason, and now there’s a Repub movement to have a “tea party” based on some screwball throwing a three-year-old tantrum on-air.
All this one month into a new President’s term. Wait until Obama starts really doing some Liberal stuff, now that he’s emboldened by his rising approval ratings. Those Congresstwerps notice approval ratings and will scramble to be on the winning side of those ratings.
It’s so funny to see how tone deaf wingnuts are. Did they not just see America elect their first melanin-enhanced President, in a landslide, while running on positivity and “can’t we all just get along?” Instead of adjusting TO this trend, they decide to double down on the shit the public has been rejecting the last two election cycles. Brilliant!
If Jindal, Palin and Cantor are the starting line-up, what does the bench look like?
Mister Rogers has passed on ya know — Gov. Jindal’s Neighborhood? Or a remake of Andy Griffith would need a Barney Fife. Bobby has options….
I would’ve gone with El Rushbo or Gov. Barbie to deliver the address. They are the heart of the puke party.
Btw, wtf is wrong with those people in Louisiana, electing a guy that thinks the response to Katrina was just hunky-dory?
He is a cheesy salesman and a dork. Why are they so fucking surprised everyone else thought so?
BTW, what the fucking fuck is wrong with fucking Louisiana?
“America doesn’t elect somewhat-off dorks as president”. I think the past eight years would prove otherwise, Mr. Spades. Next time, show you work.
Well, I thought he did OK for a 10th grade speech class. I would give him a B and tell him to record his next speech and listen to it before he gives it to the class. It was Bobby’s son, wasn’t it? He could not possibly be the Republican rising star everyone is talking about. That’s inconceivable.
Others have picked up on “Kenneth the Page.” See this Medium Large cartoon.
Misty, thought the exact same thing.
Wow. He lost me at ‘pre-existing condition’.
Hey TBogg… You don’t have to sugar-coat it for us.
That “pre-existing condition” joke was so tone-deaf, I wondered if he was misreading his Teleprompter. Yeah, I bet all the uninsured Americans really got a giggle out of listening to this guy with government-paid healthcare mocking their troubles.
Matt Lewis at Townhall thought Jindal advanced the cause.
EPU’d for Barbara
believe it or not, it gets better
The Rock Bobster has a new facebook group that’s rapidly catching up with the Teabagger Michelle Malkin facebook group that wants to start a revolution over saving families from foreclosure.
Any facebookers, or those that are interested in joining might want to join this group to put it over the top, and make Joe the Nota Plumber blow a gasket:

Jindal’s performance should be SNL gold!
It’s all a perfect setup for Jeb Bush to look really great to Republics.
Also The Daily Show.
I’m telling you.. the hardcore rethug deadenders are all high-fiving each other over his speech…. telling each other that his presidential nomination is in the bag. There are clearly different perceptions at work here.
the goopers could have won with a grapefruit labeled “not Blanco”
from his wiki page:
how is that even possible ?!?!?
felt like I was listening to a kid in kindergarten.
The other thing that SNL should rip on is Obama’s false line “the U.S. does not torture” This is a flat out lie and the whole world knows this. Obama should have said “The U.S. will not torture during my administration” Far more honest
“the U.S. does not torture” Choke…lie…spin

I am lovin’ this analogy!! EPU’d from below, I’ve never seen the show, but reading the Wiki about Kenneth the Page makes me wish I had. And now we have Bobby the Paragraph. *g*
HA!
Okay. I am going to venture to one of the most sickeningly partisan blogs in the country. You know — the Dartmouth bunch. Wish me luck, and if I’m not back in five minutes, send rescuers.
The CIA has a long history of torture, right from the getgo. (I haven’t seen evidence of its predecessor, OSS, torturing during WWII, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it did.) Reading Legacy of Ashes which lays a lot of it out. It would be a real break with history if it were stopped now. I’m not holding my breath. Also, read Wilderness of Mirrors. They drove Yuri Nosenko crazy with the sensory depravation torture, and that was in the 1970s.
OT Gary Locke nominated for commerce.
I am rethinking the whole Rhodes Scholar thing. David Vitter is also a Rhodes Scholar. Both still need diapers.
remember, Rhodes himself was a mysogenistic, somewhat racist, colonizing imperialist… Kiplingish in his commitment to the ‘white man’s burden’
Citizen Bonkers:
It’s jest a little frightenin’ how fast the formal fascist political front dissintergrated on national television, ain’t it? But It makes things easier for us on the left now…now we jest gotta watch Obama and his trusty sycophant, Rahm Tiny Dancer Emmanuel, as they try and rebuild the American oligarchy in their own image.
Rachel are one too.
Gee, Bobby J., I listened to your entire speech but somehow I missed the part where you proposed privitizing the Federal flood insurance program.
Political science has little to do with being a successful Republic. To be a successful one, a person must be able to quote the dogma like scripture and be willing to engage in magical thinking.
Rachel am my hero.
Gasp, gag, gork. I’m back. What might one expect from a site that features ads for Ann Coulter’s column and Newtie’s newsletter? Crap, of course. Notably absent as of 10:30ish CST is any mention of Bobby the Paragraph. Hmmmm.
Potential 2012 Repug Presidential Candidates respond to Boobay Jindal:
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty: “I can do better than that!”
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin: “Better than that do I can!”
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush: “Ma, tain’t fair! He talks English!
Magical underwear doesn’t hurt, either.
Ditto
Hey they can rework the old political slogan tippacanoe and Tyler too.
2012 version: Booby jingle and failin too
Interesting. The most rePOOblican blogs I know are totally side-stepping Jindal so far. Must be waiting for talking points from on high:
1. It’s a lovely day in the neighborhood.
2. Brown is beautiful.
3. Can’t we all just get along?
I also missed the piece where he was mobilizing private citizens to go out and improve the levies with their picks and shovels.
crikey ! didn’t know about Vitter
We saw Jindal on MTP Sunday morning, hence saving ourselves the bother of staying tuned for his reply moment last night.
Most of the Democrats in Orleans Parish got either drowned or evicted by Katrina. However, since many of the evictees moved to Texas, that state got a little bluer.
Louisiana is stranger than Mississippi and Texas put together. The tension between dark, deep southern New Orleans and the northern necks has always been entertaining. The northern necks have been waiting to put the fun lovers in their place for centuries. New Orleans held all of the power economically. Now, no one in La. has any economic power cause they gave it away to Big Earl (oil) along time ago. Fools. Bobby Jindal was to be their savior. They made a big mistake cause he doesn’t look anything like Jeebus.
Many of the Katina refuges are in Oakland. Big families ties there from WWII and the shipyards.
Amanda GOPers with good credit in the suburbs played at multiple and million dollar homes yes the first wave the poor dark folks you and Rick Santelli don’t like are loosing or have lost their homes.
But if you look at the way housing prices nationwide well there are not enough of us to cause that big of a drop.
GOPers are loosing their homes Amanda and Rick Santelli just kicked them out of your clubhouse.
Just who is left in your exclusive Whites and Uncle Toms who are Fundamentalists, Chicago School of Economics not yet touched by the worsening economy Club house Amanda?
You, Rick oh and the Bankers who want more money, I guess you GOPers are afraid that if we help the home owners the Bankers won’t have enough cash to throw anymore cool parties with TAX PAYER MONEY!
Had a Punjabi friend in college whose name was Charanjit Singh. When he first came over here he changed his name to “Chad” and hung out with rather rednecky conservatives. Then he met me (hippie chick!) and his politics rather fluidly changed to those of mine (progressive). It was all very interesting.
Our friendship ended when I found out he had stolen some of my checks and forged them, which got me in a lot of trouble. Ended up (from what I read in the newspaper one day) trying to rob a bank with a *knife* and escaping in a taxi cab.
Don’t know what happened after that, but thinking about it later, he seemed to me as someone with a rather tragic identity crisis, attempting to negotiate the vast behemoth of American culture. “Bobby” strikes me rather the same way, abandoning his heritage in order to fit in, in a similarly confused patchwork.
Still on the GOP side: Bernanke, Summers, Geithner.
Shelby wants proof Obama was born in the USA.
I want proof Jindal was born on this planet.
BOOM GOES THE DYNOMITE!

EPU’ed from down below
It says so much about how out of touch the current Republican party is that they tout Katrina as a success story.
And while you could justify trotting out Jindal as a way for Republicans to showcase their young talent, it also looks like a way to offer up a sacrificial lamb.
Where was Mitch McConnell, the highest ranking Republican in the party, or any of the other Republican Senators who have never shown any aversion before this to a mike or a camera. Where was Boehner to shed a tear or two over those mean, mean old Democrats? I think those who called Jindal the Republican piñata got it exactly right.
When he started his speech he sounded like he was the Republican Obama knockoff. And using Katrina as a example, just plain stupid. I like what Chris Matthews said, the repubs had to outsource the response because all the Washington types were too connected to Bush.
You got it, it’s a setup. Recall how Mrs Moose got hammered early by her own. . .
incoming
I thought he did a docent job. I am stoked for his guided tour of the governor’s mansion!
Yes, the building looks much more interesting than his speech.
You got it trying to be white by giving up your heritage you lose yourself and end up like your ex friend or Bobby.
The GOP gets pissed when dark people don’t want to be white because they equal being white with success and fitting in with the price you pay to be a success.
Never mind that inherited money fits in self made money is never accepted by the old money types. Real success tends to be more about the job they don’t socialize as much as old money but they don’t pretend to be white either.
First generation or just trying to move up and make big cash by fitting in Dark Sycophants however do socialize to move up.
Just like guys like Bush and Newt did they say what ever power wants and power rewards them with a presidency or wingnut welfare book deals
But for some reason guys like Bush claim to have business experience and Newt worships free enterprise when between government jobs and being the mouth piece of old money that hates real competition he has never worked at or for free enterprise.
Hey, didn’t read all the comments yet but ROFLMAO!
Last night commenter GregB gave us a line I’m still chuckling over this morning:
and I’d like proof that Shelby doesn’t keep a set of white sheets and a dunce cap-mask get-up in his closet. Or maybe he has the scarlet red version of the same costume.
the rethugs are always into that old soviet-style Byzantine backstabbing thing.. so anything’s possible ;-P
The Rs don’t know anything about business or economics. Look at W’s cabinet: paper, aluminum, oil, railroads. All those are over-the-hill oligopolies that may do more harm to the economy than good.
The live oak shot looked like a big stalk of broccoli
Also, the Late Nite team was earnestly researching why this guy is just so goshdarn famous. No, it’s not the exorcism. It’s the recall.
Yes, everyone’s underwear bunched up when Bobby refused to veto a measure that would DOUBLE STATE LEGISLATORS’ PAY, when he campaigned on a promise to prevent this from happening. It would be non PC to say he was an Indian giver, but I can’t resist kicking him when he’s down. Only the threat of recall forced him to deliver on his promise. Yep, he’s GOP thru and thru.
Remember Mike Murphy getting caught on an open mic talking about how horrible she was? Now she’s a victim and so will this jerk be.
I swear I saw Shelby frisking Obama before the speech last night.
I know I think they were forced on Obama by the beltway powers like Rahm, the blue dogs, and the GOP.
But given his clout giving speeches I think Obama can afford to listen to guys like Krugman and Buffet now.
I missed that detail. I’m an historic building fan, so I look at them with an eye to see the good stuff, and I completely miss anything that mars the picture.
another Bobbywood epic
It was the opening shot on MSNBC before KO said Oh God!
Agreed!
You are so right, one could’nt have said it better..!
ah, I owe you a coke or something. I didn’t know the line was borrowed from Tweety! Good one.
That cravat’s the tell. He seems to have at least two, and the other would clearly have been better. Someone wanted the Kenneth the Page comparison.
Its not the exorcism? (sob) but I worked so hard on that angle!
Still you are right:)
Uh-oh, Bobby the Paragraph has triggered my mom response, similar to the one I used to feel upon viewing LaMalkkkin’s cheerleader vid – oh, poor baby, he thinks he’s cool.
However, repeated viewing of LaMalkkkin in her little outfit plus limited exposure to her “intellect” has cured me. Lord help me, do I now have to watch Bobby again?
Nah, I can live with the pity.
bobo’s said the speech was nihlism, don’t forget what Walter Sobchak said:
The Rethugs couldn’t have said it worst…..! Bobby Jindal, was a very sad excuse for Repubs. No one could have sad it worse. He sounded like a child begging for an audition with the big boys. How sad was that?
racism!
He couldn’t have been worse then Oliver asking for more…..!
Palin/Jindal 2012!
do you seriously believe it was racism against Jindal?
Wasn’t that Mitt’s old staffers working for McCain in other words the Corporate wing of the GOP?
My bold the Corporate wing of the GOP is taking out the fundamentalist wing of the GOP.
While the Fundies blame us for their troubles.
Treachery is sooo Mitt!
may god bless you. I hope you are right. We will kick your behind.
Be healed TCU!!!
Krugman was on Charlie Rose last night along with the usual CW blatherers but it was really surprising how he kept them honest. So when one of them piped up with “The government would be really bad at running banks” Krugman responded “Bankers are really bad at running banks.” And with that, that line of blather ended.
Ok but please just don’t drive out the Demon/Muse Ok:)
OMG, awesome smackdown!
no, I believe that is what they will be saying most ricky tic (not ricky ticky tavi)!
Who got smacked Charlie or a GOP talking head?
lol.
seriously, I read that people brought up the whacky exorcism thingy during some of his runs and there was some Mormon-like whining a la Prop 8, that it was bigotry against the church. So dems dropped that approach somewhere along the way. I don’t know why. Cuz now he’s their GD governor.
They plural?
hey, what does CW stand for? corporate welfare or something. I’m seeing it pop up, but am lost. thanks.
They the bad evil people that we all hate so much. . . you know.
I am no fan of the GOP, but we would all benefit if the GOP Corporate wing succeeds in taking out the fundamentalist wing.
I like’s the cowboy movies where BOTH get killed!
Anybody who wants to fit in as bad as Bobby is really hard to defend against racism charges after all the GOP line is that racism is over now that Obama is in charge.
How do you defend someone that does not want to be defended?
by lying like a mofo
LOL your such an optimist:)
Arrrgh!
And that was another edition of short answers to obvious questions
Yeah, I guess “nihilist” is all that’s left to Bobo for a distinguishing epithet.
If I had had more time I would have written a shorter letter.
Conventional wisdom, maybe.
Sweet!
Huh Catholic Lay people don’t do exorcisms Priests do Lay people don’t hear confession or marry people either.
The Media I take it spread but did not question this GOP talking point.
Nate Silver:
I love that the GOP sound like complete idiots and cretins, you go girls!
Nice joke makes you think for a second.
“I have only made this letter longer because I have not had the time to make it shorter.”
Blaise Pascal, (1623-1662) Lettres provinciales.
Not that the story need be long, but it will take a long while to make it short.

You know that I write slowly. This is chiefly because I am never satisfied until I have said as much as possible in a few words, and writing briefly takes far more time than writing at length.
Karl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855)
It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.
Nietzsche
The more you say, the less people remember. The fewer the words, the greater the profit.

No one who has read official documents needs to be told how easy it is to conceal the essential truth under the apparently candid and all-disclosing phrases of a voluminous and particularizing report….
Woodrow Wilson
“If you want me to give you a two-hour presentation, I am ready today. If you want only a five-minute speech, it will take me two weeks to prepare.”
Mark Twain
Bobby Jindal made a complete idiot of himself tonight, what could be better for Dems? I am forever in Jindal’s shorterm favor as is a republican expectation……
It’s a trap, I’m tellin ya.
LOL
Now it sounds like a Zen Riddle
three words
less is more
there
dunno context, but conventional wisdom, maybe?
nice
Bobby might have down better last night just saying, “They’re wrong.”
Day-um, dude! You be an intellectual! Shhhhhh…don’t let the the rePOOblicans know! You’ll be labeled something really baaaaaad.
Yea, they’d like my GED too!
doctor, doctor, give me the news…
(smart men are soooo sexy)
You Elitist the GOP Governor of Alaska can’t even get a high school drop out to marry her daughter:)
Barbara: same thing goes for smart women!
rut ro
Here’s the story of a Gov name Piyush
Who was called upon to give a little speech
How Republicans know how to make life better
and government’s a leech.
But when he walked out around the corner
Gave a big grin and then began to speak
To all of us, like we were all first graders
He sounded like a geek
And the longer Piyush kept on a talkin’
It was obvious he didn’t have a clue
and just like that, the whole darn country
Knew poor Piyush was through
Piyush is through
Piyush is through
That’s the way we all knew Piyush is through!
LOL. I’m gonna throw a bucket o’cold water on you two and go do chores! *g*
Put that on the next thread as an EPU they will enjoy it.
I can’t help myself. The way I’m wired.
Things…you’re on that list too and also.
No need for the bucket, though…I’m off to the market and will be back later.
Wow, TBogg. That’s a sentence worthy of Edward Bulwer-Lytton. And that’s meant as a high compliment.
“It was a dark and Stormy night…in Loiusiana”
o.k. the U.S. has often tortured…Obama could still say “during my administration there will be no torture”
Just one of the disadvantages of being on the Beautiful Coast. Speechifying started here @ 4 pm.
BTW, Dear Daughter & I had a great time in SD & LaJolla 10 days ago.
If you’re talking about the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion, it’s not all that historic. It was built in 1963.
