No, I’m not going anywhere, but you never know when you’re going to be hit by a meteorite or decide to go all Thomas Merton and shit, and I felt I had to get that last post moved down.
So….
- On behalf of mrs tbogg, thanks to Bill in Highland, NY for the Touch of Evil DVD for her birthday. No, you can’t have boobie pictures, but nice try.
- Download free NINJA music here
- I went looking for a book to read tonight and discovered that I own three copies of White Noise. In my defense they’re three different editions. Okay, that’s no defense at all. I also have three copies of Soul of the New Machine.I really need to pay attention. But I am finally getting around to reading James Kakalios’ The Physics of Superheroes that I purchased for the L&T Casey when she was taking physics in high school. I hear it’s worth double nerd/fanboy points.
- My Twitter minion list is up to 154. Someday I hope to have enough followers to invade and occupy Lightning, UT. Wolverines!
- As a service to all of the important bloggers who have been shut out of Deep Thoughts by Jake Tapper, here is his latest tweet:
The epiphany I had when I realized Johnny Ola and Junior Soprano were the same man, 30 years apart! It still satisfies.
Really. Tapper should, like, charge admission or something.
I just got banned, didn’t I?
- And this has been all over the place today, but John Rogers approaches internet immortality with this:
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.
I think we have reached the tipping point when even Scientologists point at Randians and snicker. That’s a world I want to live in…

I think we can officially declare that The Last Word on all mutations of Rand & Co.
If it’s any consolation, you probably got banned for the semen in the last post. Nice twitters, BTW. They’re like Poor Richard updated for the 21st century. No one will be reading Tapper’s anyway when they get a load of your deep thoughts. May the minion army grow.
Is there a difference?
Extra “style points” to the Scientologists for this one–although if they keep this up, they may actually attract DFHs and the librul elite.
No boobie pictures? You bastard!
I’ve got your boobie picture right here.
The main difference between Scientologists and Randians, of course, is that L. Ron Hubbard set up a single, unified pyramid scheme for his followers to inherit. Rand made her followers each build his own.
Greetings, and hope you enjoy the book. (You earn triple nerd points by blogging about the book!).
From a class I created in 2001, this has been a fun ride. Case in point – getting asked to some some science consulting for the Watchmen film two years ago. Which enabled me to demonstrate the fundamental principle of quantum mechanics (the wave like nature of matter) to more people in three weeks than I would teaching for over a millennium!

And remember – nerds run this world! And we’re not going to take any more shit from the Man!
Your Friendly Neighborhood Physics Professor,
Jim
To score maximum librul points, donate the extra copies to your local library. Convert the masses!
Socialism! Socialism! We all scream for Socialism!
JB
Which of course is doomed to fail, since the only thing Randians actually build is a delusional fantasy of self importance. Actually creating? Not so much.
You’re on Twitter? Damn, I may actually be tempted to figure out how to use it, then. Your posts brighten my days (will you be able to Thursday night bassett Twitter?)
And second – You are a book lover/buyer/distracted person like myself. All too often I have found second and third copies of something, too. And then, there’s the copy of “The Anti-Federalist Papers” that disappeared–so i bought a second copy–only to lose that one, too. Suspect it will re-appear one day. Probably behind the heavy bookshelf that never gets moved to sweep behind.
Have you ever waded through the list of people Jake Tapper follows on Twitter?
Remarkably instructive. Imagine having the evanescent thoughts of Ken Blackwell, Karl Rove, Ron Fournier, Ann Kornbluth and Andrew Malcolm beamed to your PDA in real time.
I wonder if back when he was trying to get some easy sex from Monica Lewinsky he ever thought it would come to this sort of glory.
Welcome, professor. You’ll find we’re a rather unruly, but thoughtful lot, and who wouldn’t want to be associated with the one and only Demonic Conservative Ridicule Machine?
I don’t know…. Isn’t a delusional fantasy of self-importance technically the mental equivalent of an individual pyramid scheme? (Don’t think about that one too long. Teh stupid will short-circuit something in your brain.)
Thank you – but as the kids say nowadays – long time lurker, first time poster.
Actually I’ve posted here before on the old web site. The firedoglake registration protocols previously proved too challenging for this rocket scientist. I had wanted to post when tbogg was first identified as a “Demonic Conservative Ridicule Machine” during the campaign season. As I recall, he accompanied that post with an image from Jack Kirby’s Demon # 1, yet did not update the incantation for the Obama Age:
Gone, Gone
Somewhat Popular Man,
Arise the Demon
Yes We Can!
OK – probably just as well I didn’t post before. If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the Intrinsic Field Chamber.
Don’t forget your watch, Professor…
Matt Taibbi has the latest on who is running the world. The same guys who just brought it down.
Oh, wow. Wait till I tell my friends I got to sit in the comments section only two seats away from Professor Kakalios. This is seriously cool.
Thank you Professor. I am now such a combination of bored and confused that Billy Crudup’s glowing blue penis has been forced from my mind….Well, crap, now it’s back.
He even has all the Marvel Comics action figurines! Molto cool!
“Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters and the Birth of the Comic Book” by Gerard Jones. An utterly wonderful way to waste time!
This is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone connect John Rogers to Scientology. Are you maybe confusing him with John-Roger?
Gone, Gone
Somewhat Popular Man,
Arise the Demon
Yes We Can!
That is High Funny, right there.
