You have my condolences as well, Amber. Few, if any, things in life are sadder than the loss of a beloved family member.
What an amazing pair of photos, from pup to matriarch; and what a good long life she had!
Condolences, Amber.
You know, it’s the darndest thing: I don’t much believe in an afterlife for humans, but I really want there to be a heaven for animals, and esp, for the animals who give us so much love, trust, loyalty, and generally make the world a much better place.
Thank you.
Sorry for your loss Amber…
aww, such a kewtie! I’m sure she was a happy being and made you happy too. I’m sorry for your loss, Amber.
Che bella!
My sincere regrets . I have lost too many friends over the years to count , but it never gets easier . I understand your pain as only a dog lover can . ” my very best friends are dogs ” .
a somber w3ski
I am so sorry. I still remember being with another Miss Kitty (1977-1994) when her battle with cancer finally ended.
I’m with CaseyL. Our friends deserve eternity a damned sight more than we do.
Thank you to TBogg and everyone else who left such kind comments. She will always be my first baby. I am about to donate her meds to my favorite basset rescue: The House of Puddles. Marilyn is an amazing person who takes care of at least 12 senior basset hounds at a time….a retirement home for bassets. Check out her website at http://www.houseofpuddles.org ….and check out the videos, especially the one about dinner time!

I am so sorry for your loss, Amber, but how lucky you are to have such a friend!
The terrible part of a partnership with a companion animal is the gut-wrenching, heart-shattering knowledge that they will leave us far too soon, with far too much love ungiven and unreceived.
The comfort in the love given and received during their lives is quite cold in the immediate wake of their passing.
But it warms to a slow burn of glorious memory that remains with us until we too pass on and join them in whatever it is that awaits us.
We shed tears for our own past loves, and for Amber’s.
But on the plus side, I knocked over the Sunsphere:
“People.com is reporting that Sarah Palin has issued a statement in response to Levi Johnston’s comments to Tyra Banks about his relationship with her daughter Bristol:
“Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show. We’re disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship,” says the statement from the Palin family rep.
“Bristol’s focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence,” the statement continues. “It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well being of the child.”
The statement ends, saying, “Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions.”
This in response to Levi’s appearance on Tyra, suggesting that he and Bristol were not always decked out in the appropriate rain gear.
This after Bristol herself went on Xenu Traveller Van Susteren’s Echo Chamber Of Stupid saying that abstinence-only education is for suckers.
Just look at how well it worked out for her.
Sarah. Palin. Is. Fucking. Crazy.
I really do feel sorry for these kids, who made the same mistake kids all over the world make every day and are not forced to pay the price of a publicity circus.
But…Sarah. Palin. Is. Fucking. Crazy.
And the crazy infests everything it touches.
We love our pets completely and without reservations, and they give it right back and more. I’m sorry for your loss Amber, and I honor you for giving sweet Miss Kify a long and love-filled life.
Amber…out thoughts and love are with you. She was an absolutely gorgeous girl and I’m gonna bet Satchmo found her right away. They’re hanging out at the Rainbow Bridge together just waiting for the rest of us to join them.
Whoever designed dogs to live less than two decades needs a good talking to.
Miss Kify the elder reminds me of Queen Claudine. I hope that video gives you a few laughs at this sad time.
RIP, Miss Kify. Best to you and yours, Amber.

Condolences to you. Every loss is hard.
What a loving face. I’m so sorry for your loss.
She was loving…but damn stubborn. In the last year we tried 4 different foods for her kidneys, and I still ended up having to make food at home. But try eating any human food! Right now we have to remember to give my other dog a snack…she doesn’t ask. Miss Kify used to DEMAND a taste…the look, the panting and the inevitable drool on your foot…Good memories. Actually, up until 2004 she used to sit up on her butt and extend one of her paws to get food:)
Man, I am having trouble adjusting without a basset under foot….
Condolences to all who loved her. She was a lovely girl. All of us who frequent here know the joys and pain of loving dogs. It is terribly hard to adjust, but in time the many years of good and funny memories will overcome the grieving ones. Till then, take heart in knowing we care.
Sorry for your loss. It is always a huge pity that we give our hearts to creatures that have more fleeting lifespans than ours. What a face, what a beautiful girl Bassett.
But it means we treasure them more and love them with all our hearts. And this will leave a big hole in your life.
I like to think we’ll be together again afterward. It is a comfort.
What a gorgeous Basset girl at both ends of her life. I am profoundly sorry Amber.
I too am sorry for your loss, you were both blessed to had each other.

Rainbow Bridge Poem
Rainbow Bridge Poem (Photo of Rottweiler Dog)
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many splendid colors. Just this side of Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush, green grass.
When beloved pets die, they go to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So each day they run and play. Until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches. The ears are up! The eyes are staring.
And this one suddenly runs from the group. You have been seen!
And when you and your special friend meet, you take him in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together…
… Never again to be separated.
Sent to me by a friend on the passing of my black lab and best friend, Moose. My condolences Amber, I know how it hurts.
Selah.
