I just found this and it’s all kinds of awesome including the "interview"
and since we’re doing LA bands of the eighties
Yeah. I’ve put the Mary’s Danish video up before but the story is still interesting.

Yeah. I’ve put the Mary’s Danish video up before but the story is still interesting.
Great clip of X, but what was that big square thing Letterman was holding up in front of himself at the beginning?
Hmph. It’s not like the old days when you could understand the words and the singers sang on pitch, like Patti Page or Doris Day. Where’s Nelson Riddle when you need him? You kids get off my lawn!
X! Wow, thanks Tbogg, haven’t thought of them in a while. Still remember when an ex-girl friend (no pun intended) made me a mix tape in the early 80’s with a bunch of songs from Under the Big Black Sun. Wore that tape out. And I see they are coming to Philly in June.
Saw Mary’s Danish back in probably 1991 when they played the Barn at UC Riverside. Been a fan ever since.
Saw X for the first time a couple years ago in Chicago. Saw them again last year, and I have tickets for their June 18th show at the Double Door. Really fun to see live. Billy Zoom alone is worth the price of admission.
I do hope that wasn’t a dis on Nelson Riddle. The man was aces. Not only did he do the best arrangements Sinatra ever had (back when Frank was still a Democrat and could still swing it – not a coincidence), but he did the music for “Batman” (though Neal Hefti did the theme). Of course, this backfired when Riddle did the score for “El Dorado”. Every time I’ve seen it, whenever the music comes up, I keep waiting for the Penguin or the Joker to come out and attack John Wayne…
I didn’t know David Schwimmer was in a band.
Oh God yes, I worship Billy Zoom!
Okay that X vid is sweet. Saw ‘em at SDSU and Irvine amphitheaters, mid 80’s.
I love that John Doe gets so much airtime in “Roadhouse”. It’s on every other week!
Comparing X to Mary’s Danish is like comparing New York City’s art scene to Omaha’s.
I’ve been to half a dozen X gigs, always great! So’s their Americana stuff with the Knitters. John Doe is pretty good solo, though I coulna’ get into Exene’s stuff.
I actually partied after a show with them at a place called the stucco factory…and believe me Exene is a very tiny gal with huge hair!
John Doe is touring with the Sadies this summer. That should be awesome.
I got to interview X for my college radio station after a killer show they did in Raleigh in the early 1980s. As a friend who was with me said recently, we was once fab.
No mention of the Blasters or Los Lobos, circa 1985? “Hardline,” and “How Will The Wolf Survive” were the best albums of that year, East or West of the Pecos.
