Since I lack the I Loathe MoDo iBlogg app, I don’t really feel like joining the pile-on that will launch a thousand "This Is Why the New York Times Is Dying!!!" blog posts by Monday morning. Without knowing him, my thinking is that Josh Marshall will be very gracious and accept Dowd’s apology and we can get back to the important business of blaming Nancy Pelosi for not going Full Metal Pocahontas and throwing her body between the torturers and their victims.
In the meantime, the MoDo flap gives Bill Kristol’s lapdog, Michael Goldfarb, an opportunity to pose a profound and interesting question:
Imagine if Kristol had plagiarized a RedState post in his NYTimes column.
This must be what it felt like when man first conceived of the atom; that matter is made up of smaller units forming a greater whole. The idea that Bill Kristol could possibly lift something that was dumber and wronger than anything he could write or has written is to stare into the infinite abyss only to see Kristol smirky face staring back.
You can get dizzy just thinking about it.

As if Bill Kristol has plaj skills.
Prolly doesn’t know the meaning of the word, and since it involves reading other peoples’ work, really, what could possibly be the point.
Imagine if Kristol had plagiarized a RedState post in his NYTimes column.
Yeah, as if. Plus the flow of “ideas” goes the other way on the Righties’ side – if Kristol plagiarized RedState, he’d really be plagiarizing Rush or even himself.
By this time Tuesday at the US Copyright Office all of your “More and more the timeline is raising the question of why…” R belong to us. The rest of the paragraph has been a widely held opinion among beltway insiders for years.
“More and more?” “The timeline is raising the question?” Where the hell did these people go to school–Princeton?
Bill Kristol excels at being wrong. He doesn’t need to plagiarize from other wrong people.
Imagine if Kristol had plagiarized a RedState post in his NYTimes column.
Is this just a koan, or is he just trying to make some kind of “Then the LIEberals would be OUTRAGED” point that completely fails to take into account the fact that none of us could possibly have more contempt for MoDo than we do already?
I’m not advocating plagiarism and absolutely cannot stand MoDo, but doesn’t this discussion detract demonstrably from the point she was trying to make? As far as I’ve seen, Josh has not accepted her half-apology at all. So tomorrow, instead of talking about Dowd advocating a commission the cables will be talking either about the plagiarism or, more likely, won’t be mentioning her article at all.
This seems to me to be a case where blogger/journalist ego is getting in the way of the message.

Possibly, but given Dowd’s history, I’d say journalism would only be substantially improved by her getting fired over this and forced to resort to blogging instead. I grant you it wouldn’t help the quality of blogging, but I think we should take this one for the team.
Imagine the outrage if Bush asked for spicy mustard. Just imagine.
Why? Because it’s all we have left.
I’m a really early adopter of the I Loathe MoDo (or at least her work and her professional persona) iBlogg app, but I don’t see what firing her would accomplish. If the current era of insider neenering on the Times Op Ed page has taught us anything, it’s that whoever they hired to replace her would be exponentially worse.
Bill Kristol exhales and he is wrong.
If there were any source from which “Bill Kristol could possibly lift something that was dumber and wronger than anything he could write or has written,” Red State would be the place.
What does Ross Douthat think?

Eventually, Goldfarb will discover the Wingnut Singularity, a point so stupid that it will destroy the universe.
Fortunately, he’s lazy as well as stupid, so he won’t discover it for a looooong time…
LOL
Golly gee wow. Imagine if there had been stuff plagiarized word for word by right wing bloggers, right wing politicians and stenographic media!!!!! Someone might have to give it a name, you know, something like, oh, maybe “Talkingpoints?”
But it doesn’t even fit. TPM isn’t rabidly partisan as say the Great Orange Satan. Has Red State ever broken any legitimate news stories like TPM has? It sounds like Goldfarb is an even bigger idjit than Kristol.
All a matter of perspective. According to winguts Obama is an extreme liberal, which means in their eyes Josh Marshall must fall somewhere to the left of Karl Marx.
Chyeah!
Blogger ethics panel, stat!
Seriously, if MoDo plagiarized you, would you be flattered or depressed? I feel bad for Josh.*
*this was not plagiarized in any way, shape or form.
Okay, well, maybe a little.
Okay, all of it.
But hey! Sincerest form of flattery and all that shit, right…?
Bill Kristol, thy name is Legion!
Many little (tiny, corrupt, nincompoop, …) voices talking as one.
To the extent Dowd called for a commission, that was drowned out by the sound of her spikey shoes kicking Pelosi in the ribs.
Citizen evietoo:
No dear, we don’t need MoDo to get a “commission” and/or special prosecutors…we get a twofer here, we get rid of the Hellish Harpie from the Grey Lady AND we get the inevitable…that’s right, all the corruption of the Bush regime from the US Attornies to torture to war profiteering is gunna come out because there is too much shit to hold back unless what’s left of the military security apparatus tries ta make Obama into JFK.
So we don’t let ANY of the fascist fellow travelers and corporate media whores onto the band wagon…let ‘em drown in the 8 years of shit that’s comin’ down.
There is something deeply unethical about lifting the words of a leftie blogger and dropping them in the NYT. Anything printed at the Gray Lady ought only be lifted from the deliberately leaked, deeply suspect Bush Administration documents. Standards must be kept.
OT…WTF is going on with Kyra’s eyebrows today?
Dude names his site something like “Talking Points Memo” and he’s just askin’ for it…kinda like wearing a thong bikini downtown after sunset.
I’m kinda glad the modo thing happened if only to prove to mainstream journos that real readers read blogs and therefore blogs exist.
MoDo’s column would certainly be greatly improved if she started plagiarizing from TBogg.
I do so love the phrase “Full Metal Pocahontas”. I hope it achieves urban dictionary status soon.
you could never prove perjury against kristol
the man is illiterate
Hmm … “Full Metal Pocahontas”.
Well, that certainly puts anyone who thinks that Pelosi did not ‘rise to the occasion’ in their ‘place’, quite properly.
Hey kid! don’t stick your finger in that dike – it’s against the law!
Could we, just for a moment, consider that the expediency of doing ‘nothing’, while an ancient and, often, honorable ‘course’, is sometimes not appropriate?
Pelosi knew that if she said anything (about you know what), she would be subject to the full weight of the ‘law’, she might have been ‘renditioned’ or ‘disappeared’ or subjected to incredible inconvenience.
What would the headlines have screamed?
“Speaker disappears under mysterious circumstances.”
And then, presumably, that would have been the end of it?
The main point is that Pelosi was AFRAID that the full weight of the law would fall upon her.
A reasonable fear.
And yet, Pelosi must, at some time over those YEARS, have have begun to suspect that the administration and its heroes, had NO FEARS of the “law” or ‘consequences’ at all.
What possibly could Pelosi, in particular, have done about her fears AND the “Above the Law” mentality that she faced?
What one thing?
Hint:(Oh drat! We just don’t have the votes. Sorry, our political calculation says that doing what should be AND needs to be done just won’t work to our political advantage … will somebody please move that table out of here, it’s in the way?)
As a Representative of the people, as the Speaker of the House, Pelosi is not just your average Nancy six-pack, she has an obligation to do far more than secure her own ‘comfort’.
There is no profile in courage to be seen in Pelosi’s behavior, however ‘astute’ (’self-serving’, I would say) some ‘observers’ feel her ‘decisions’ to have been.
Wait a minute…Red State? Plagarism? Tell me he didn’t.
Sorry – I know I am a little confused, it’s Monday after all. However, didn’t we have a debate only last Monday following Frank Rich’s Sunday whining piece about bloggers (NYTimes – The American Press on Suicide Watch, http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05…..ef=opinion). Didn’t we conclude a week ago, before the latest outbreak of plagarism, that the paper of Jayson Blair, Judith Miller, Michael Gordon & Bill Keller was headed for the ‘dustbin of history’? Perhaps my memory’s just too short.
Kristol plagiarizing would require something too much like research.
