Sorry - I know I am a little confused, it’s Monday after all. However, didn’t we have a debate only last Monday following Frank Rich’s Sunday whining piece about bloggers (NYTimes - The American Press on Suicide Watch, http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05.....ef=opinion). Didn’t we conclude a week ago, before the latest outbreak of plagarism, that the paper of Jayson Blair, Judith Miller, Michael Gordon & Bill Keller was headed for the ‘dustbin of history’? Perhaps my memory’s just too short.

Hmm … “Full Metal Pocahontas”.

Well, that certainly puts anyone who thinks that Pelosi did not ‘rise to the occasion’ in their ‘place’, quite properly.

Hey kid! don’t stick your finger in that dike - it’s against the law!

Could we, just for a moment, consider that the expediency of doing ‘nothing’, while an ancient and, often, honorable ‘course’, is sometimes not appropriate?

Pelosi knew that if she said anything (about you know what), she would be subject to the full weight of the ‘law’, she might have been ‘renditioned’ or ‘disappeared’ or subjected to incredible inconvenience.

What would the headlines have screamed?

“Speaker disappears under mysterious circumstances.”

And then, presumably, that would have been the end of it?

The main point is that Pelosi was AFRAID that the full weight of the law would fall upon her.

A reasonable fear.

And yet, Pelosi must, at some time over those YEARS, have have begun to suspect that the administration and its heroes, had NO FEARS of the “law” or ‘consequences’ at all.

What possibly could Pelosi, in particular, have done about her fears AND the “Above the Law” mentality that she faced?

What one thing?

Hint:(Oh drat! We just don’t have the votes. Sorry, our political calculation says that doing what should be AND needs to be done just won’t work to our political advantage … will somebody please move that table out of here, it’s in the way?)

As a Representative of the people, as the Speaker of the House, Pelosi is not just your average Nancy six-pack, she has an obligation to do far more than secure her own ‘comfort’.

There is no profile in courage to be seen in Pelosi’s behavior, however ‘astute’ (’self-serving’, I would say) some ‘observers’ feel her ‘decisions’ to have been.
