Shorter Ross Douthat:

Shorter Ross Douthat:
The murder of George Tiller provides pro-choice advocates with a wonderful opportunity to bargain away some of their rights in return for less doctor killing. Total win-win.
Yes, I’ve always loved how “compromise” is defined by them as “you move closer to our position and we’ll stay where we are”. Rinse and repeat every time “compromise” is achieved.
There are some conservative pundits that I can stomach reading. Douthat isn’t one of them. His pseudo-intellectual tone just makes what he writes that much more…shitty. I prefer my misogyny unvarnished, thank you very much.
Ditto what JCfromNC said as well. That could also be the definition of bipartisanship as far as the GOP is concerned.
“As a matter of moral philosophy … ” Pompous ass. He writes just like the Pantload, dun’t he ?
The best part of him moving to the New York Times (which I don’t read) is that he’s not in The Atlantic anymore (which I do).
“We may never know how many of George Tiller’s abortions were performed on healthy mothers and healthy fetuses.”
Sure it was BILLIONS, Rose, not that it’s any of your motherfucking business. Delusional fucking wrong headed woman hating cocksucker. Glad I never fucked him. Asshole shitbite.

For a supposed intellectual, he sure does love arguing through sophistry. But I think that’s pretty much the only way conservatives CAN argue, since logic and reason have such severe liberal bias.
Let’s take this graf…
….and see how well a substitution plays…
and, yet, the herd of democrats in congress will immediately take the bait and start moving, lest they be tarred as terrorist-coddling baby-killers.
I dub Doughass Professor of Sophistry. The best thing about Russ’s NYT weekly screed? The high quality comments it generates. It’s the best writing in the paper.
Per shorter Ross,
So, good ole Ross threatens to kill more unless the pro-choicers “bargain” away “rights”?
Sounds like a terrorist comment to me.
none of problems he lists would matter if the asshats would follow the simple rule of “mind your own damn business” ..
the state of current law is simple: abortion is a legal medical procedure ..it’s a private matter between the woman and her doctor ..and any other concerned party she chooses to involve in her decision making process ..
these social anti-abortion nazi’s who claim life begins at conception are ignoring several hundred years of common human practice ..
the “rights of the unborn” can never exceed the rights of the woman bearing the unborn .. to do so would reduce those women to a captive vessel with no control of their own bodies and lives ..
the bastards need to just “obey the law” as it is ..and butt out .. IOW .. mind their own business ..
I am waiting–and I suspect, given the patriarchal nature of this society, it will be a long fucking wait–for a member of Congress to stand up and observe that women are full human beings and therefore have the right to bodily autonomy, and full moral beings, who therefore have the ability to make choices they deem proper for themselves. Also? That anything other than choice–of whether to have children at all; of what kind of contraception to use–is tantamount to forced pregnancy and state control of women. If women CHOOSE to have children, hey, great–that’s the whole fucking point of CHOICE.
Or, you know, something in that vein, instead of this immediate capitulation to the morally corrupt and inflammatory language of the antichoice crowd (many of whom are also anti-contraception); they’re not content with going after Roe; they want to eliminate Griswold, too, while they’re at it.
Dear Douche-Hat,
Hate to tell you this, but the actual compromise position is free choice. Nobody is forced to have an abortion and nobody is denied the right to one. Your side on the other hand are simply terrorists and terrorist sympathizers. Fucking asshat douchebag.
The Ross Recipe
A dash of what suspiciously sounds like common sense to draw in people with IQ’s over 80.
1 teaspoon of vague “facts” drawn from dubious sources.
2 tablespoons of generalizations with no supporting evidence drawn from the recesses of his sexually repressed teenage years (not that long ago).
Simmer at low heat for five minutes before stirring in 2 cups of faulty conclusions that haven’t been thought through, but fit preconceived worldview.
Love the video. Looks like Ross’s date lost some weight after the trauma of their night of non-love making.
Hey, how did you get access to their internal documents?
Someone should tell Douthat that we don’t negotiate with terrorists.
Why yes, Ross, we women who are twice or more as old as you are going to agree to give up a woman’s right to choose on behalf of our daughters and granddaughters. Maybe we deserved the right to choose, but they don’t. We’ll go right along with that plan to have a woman’s choice second-guessed by some panel of local citizens which I’m sure will be totally objective and consistent from case to case.
Will your next column be an endorsement for turning the matter of civil rights for non-Caucasions back over to the democratic process? I mean, don’t the people of Georgia have the right to vote on whether to consider determining the rights of non-Caucasians on a case by case basis? I believe their right to do something like this is being thwarted as we speak.
I think anyone who suggests that murders like that of Dr. Tiller will cease when abortion is made illegal should be arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit extortion. It’s part of my new “zero tolerance for douchebaggery” policy.
Geez, the Kansas death penalty sure seems to fit Roeder and it cries out for a conspiracy investigation:

I don’t hold with the death penalty, but it’s on the books in Kansass and presumbaly Roeder charged with premeditated, first degree murder. He’s a martyr to his adherents dead or alive, he’s a sure recividist and there’s a strong deterrenence factor as to his yellow bellied sneak buddies in the movement if Kansass fries his ass. Plus there’s the equal protection question: I just want for him what Kansass would afford a penniless black drifter accused of first degree premeditated murder, Plus Roeder won’t be able to make phone calls if he’s dead.
Scoff all you want, dismiss the death penalty as barbaric if you will – it’s on the table for anyone charged with that crime in the Sunflower State. I don’t think letting him live after conviction would be a very bright idea, not unless you want a buncha clinic bombers to say “wtf, good, they won’t kill me if I zotz another doc.” Dif result if they kill someone in a state with no death penalty.
The Terrorists Won
The best thing about Russ’s NYT weekly screed? The high quality comments it generates. It’s the best writing in the paper.
In general, yes, but there’s also a fair amount of question begging in that thread from pro-lifers, e.g., “We all know life begins at conception so abortion is murder.”
I don’t have words for how loathesome a creature Russ is. I have struggled to find them, but I just can’t.
Aw, shit.
If it’s in my body I can kill it.
One was in my body and died before it could get bigger, and I was SO pissed.
So now every ejaculation will have a name. Every family will have a permanent reminder of their daughter’s first boyfriend, and every imperfect fetus will be buried with it’s mother. Onward Xtian Soldier.
There’s a whole cemetery for Ross I-Don’t-Do-That’s tube socks.
Potfry,
indeed, if you have any kind of cancerous growth or parasite that threatens your survival(as can happen infrequently in a 2nd-trimester pregnancy) or health, you have the right to kill it.
That you would sacrifice the well-being, health, or even life of the mother over what is inside of her demonstrates what ‘pro-life’ is really about.
