Evidently the wingers and SP didn’t learn a damn thing about Letterman during the 2008 campaign. John McCain lied through his teeth to him, and Dave called him, and called him, and called him on it. I’m with sophronia. My objection to Letterman’s joke is so total, so ginormous, so event horizon-ey that it amounted to prescriptive outrage so prescient that I forgot to watch the entire run of the show since…uh…that other unfunny guy. Do I mean Carson? Yes.

Sounds about right. I haven’t watched Letterman since I stopped drinking nearly twenty years ago. He makes a sexist joke, I feel no need to take responsibility for it. And while I’m happy to call Letterman an asshole for it, I will be damned if I will apologize for his sexist joke to a bunch of people who call Helen Thomas a hag, call Michelle Obama a bitch, make clever “CUNT” jokes about Hillary Clinton, or anything else.
