Basic bottom line: Gov. Mooselini found the Alaskan Native Americans to be useful background visual props for the purpose of political photo-ops, but she passed up a number of opportunities to provide genuine aid when it was desperately needed by some of the Native American communities. In other words, pretty much her usual MO.

Given the fate of some of her other useful background visual props, they should probably count themselves lucky.

Oh, my. It does sound as though she just decided not to run for re-election and not that she’s resigned. When she said the Lt. Governor would be sworn-in at the “Governor’s Picnic” later this month, did she think he had to be sworn in just because…because…because why? Because she’s not running again?

Alaska blogger Phil Munger, who posts here at FDL as EdwardTeller, has been posting on this issue for awhile, both in Oxdown diaries - just doing a quickie look through at his Oxdown diaries, a few relevant posts can be found here, here, and here - and at his home blog Progressive Alaska. (And here’s another, non-Munger post on the topic.)
