Just give it a fucking rest.
This whole Gates thing is like bitching that no one folded your towel into an adorable animal shape in your stateroom as you sit and watch the Titantic go down from your rowboat.
Like this, if you’ve never been on a cruise. Or on the Titantic.

Soon, those wishing to demand an apology from one side or another will have to take a number. Al Sharpton and Dick Cheney must both be in a coma, I haven’t read of them demanding an apology from someone – yet.
The questioner who started this, Lynn Sweetcheeks, has had it out for Obama for quite some time. She, like most of the BigMedia mavens, feel Obama doesn’t kiss their asses enough, so they must bring him down. Oldie but goodie here:
http://www.suntimes.com/news/s…..04.article
Funny thing is, they’ve been trying so hard (Rezko, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers anyone?), but their old tired shit don’t stick no more. Obama is so wicked smart he’s always 3 steps ahead of their predictable tactics.
Sweetcheeks got a chance the other night and pounced (about 2% of population ever heard of Gates let alone this incident). Is there any issue that gets the Noize Machine and John Q. Nascar more worked up than blackity-black-black-BLACK on white issues? Lynn lobbed the grenade knowing what would happen, and Obama didn’t quite dive out of the way fast enough (although he seems to be dodging and parrying this now as well and turning it into a “teaching moment.”)
I have no doubt Sweetcheeks has had a permanent smile on her face since.
Yes, we must never say stupid people are stupid or stupid behaviour is stupid because we might hurt stupid people’s feelings.
We must never say that blacks are victims of discrimination or victims of any other godamned thing that whites have done to them for millenia.
That black professor, instead of getting uppity, should have thanked that nice white idiot policeman for watching his property so carefully.
That is a very disturbing photo you gave us, TBogg. I am so disturbed by it, I can’t even comment on the bat-shit inanity that is the traditional media. Is it a blind swan? Is it a snake, rising to meet the day? Who the fuck knows? More to the point, who the fuck thought that one up? I mean, it’s bad enough when they do that to your leftover food, but that…that is just monstrous.
I think I must go to the corner now and whimper.
P.S. Blowjob. Racial profiling. Torture. Had to be said.
I don’t see how it is minutiae and irrelevant that in 2009 a black Harvard University professor was arrested for the crime of being in his own house. And that the police department defends the arrest.
I think it’s a pretty important story.
I think the problem is the same as it always is whenever “bad cops” make the news – it quickly goes from one bad cop to the argument that all cops are bad.
And Obama bit down hard on it – instead of saying that Sergeant Gates acted unprofessionally, or even just going with the “I don’t want to prejudge the situation” dodge, he went with “the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home.”
That’s beyond a poor choice of words, in my opinion.
He’s not going to hit a home run every time out, but can he at least lay off the curveballs in the dirt?
They did act stupidly in this instance. I, for one, want stupid behavior to be called stupid. I like the follow up statement that Obama issued today, and I have no problem with what he said in his presser.
I have no problem had Obama called out that one officer. It’s essentially tarring all the officers in the department with the same brush that grates on me.
You want to call out stupid behavior, fine. But don’t call people who weren’t even involved in said behavior stupid at the same time.
King Shit cops, death, and taxes.
Bud: Look at ‘em, ordinary fucking people, I hate ‘em.
Ordinary people are OK. It’s the stupid I feel strongly about. The malicious stupid, fuck ‘em, piss on ‘em.
Ferchrissfuckingsake, there were a lotta cops there besides Barney fuckingFife. Gates was arrested and removed from his house for telling them to get the fuck out after he showed ‘em it was his house. Four hours in jail, four days to drop the charge. That’s a colossal amount of stupid for the police department that deals with Harvard and MIT. WTF are you sticking up for? Can’t be that many cops there you’d want to call bright or responsible. Not with that fucking performance, bucko. Stop blaming the victim or Obama, who finally said something not craven. Before he started up with apologies that no one in his right fucking mind believes anyway.
BTW, a police department that tolerates arresting officers who won’t identify themselves? Inside someone’s home? That’s chilling and terrifying as well as goddam fucking stupid. In a northeastern US town of 100,000 fucking people. Fuck. There should be an ether breathing Dennis Hopper in charge of that PD. Prolly fucking is. Only fucking STUPID.
Terrific WAPO video. The union guys, very fucking persuasive. Jesus fucking wept.
Did I blame the victim? NO. So please don’t put words in my mouth, I get enough of that from the wingnuts.
Am I sick and tired of people bashing ALL cops because of one stupid cop? YES. There are stupid cops on every police force in every city in the country. But for every stupid cop there are 10 good ones, and I for one don’t like them being lumped in with the bad ones.
That’s what I’m “sticking up for” bucko – the guys who WEREN’T there, WEREN’T involved at all, and yet you feel content to label them just the same.
Anybody who thinks that this would have happened to a well dressed, well spoken elderly white man with a cane in his own home in an upscale neighborhood after he just showed a Harvard faculty ID needs to put down the crack pipe.
Obama was exactly right. Not only did a single officer act stupidly, but the Cambridge Police Department did so as he was not alone at the scene and the department has seen fit to vigorously defend his illegal and unprofessional actions. And you might want to check this out.
The cop wouldn’t show his ID inside the house because he needed Gates to go out on the porch so the crowd that gathered could see the “tumultuous” behavior and therefore arrest him.
Gates was set up by the cop, who wasn’t stupid. He knew how to play the game and Gates fell for it.
President Obama said that the Cambridge Police Department acted stupidly in this case. He did not say that they acted stupidly all the time. He was very precise about it (as he always is), and of course, the traditional media had to twist his words. He was right. They acted stupidly in this case. And, as someone who has had several unpleasant experiences with the cops, I can tell you that the asshole police may be a minority (hah!), but they are exceedingly vocal.
Besides all that AG just said, what fucking EmEssEm outlet EVER fucking bashes cops? That’s arrant bullshit.
Bucko.
Marry me?
Again, you are putting words in my mouth and drawing inferences that aren’t there.
I didn’t say anything about the media – I’m talking about people who as soon as some cop somewhere does something wrong the floodgates on how ALL cops are bad, ALL cops are thugs, ALL cops are corrupt. I’m seeing it right here on this thread.
As someone who has worked with police officers and has friends who are police officers, I find it deeply disquieting that people can jump to this conclusion.
We don’t like it when people call all liberals names because of the actions of a small few – so tell why is it okay for us to turn around and do the same thing to a group we don’t like?
Only objections I see in this thread are to the police department in Cambridge. G’head, defend ‘em, ya want.
I’m talking about people who as soon as some cop somewhere does something wrong the floodgates on how ALL cops are bad, ALL cops are thugs, ALL cops are corrupt. I’m seeing it right here on this thread.
That’s funny, because nobody else seems to be able to see that. All there have been is comments about this particular incident, this particular cop, and this particular department. That this is a pervasive problem in policing is well known and widely documented (by the Bush Administration Justice Department among others). It does not mean that all cops everywhere are bad. It does mean that race places an important and distorting role in policing and this needs to be addressed.
Yes, but it can be addressed in a way that doesn’t seem like dousing yourself in gasoline and then lighting the match.
It’s a lose-lose in that scenario – police will become even more entrenched, and the community you’re reaching out to will feel like they got played.
Well, considering that you’re the only one harping on what people are saying about ALL cops when no one here, or President Obama, for that matter, has said anything like that (ok, JDM3 maybe, stretches into hyperbole a tad),I think it’s safe to say that you are seeing something that isn’t there. In other words, it’s really your problem.
Titantic?
Not so sure of your stat’s. Any proof to offer? Anybody can pull figures outta’ their ass!
I read your comments a lot and you seem like a bright person, I’m with you on this rant. He’s starting to sound like my kids! “You always…You never…” Straw man! Blow job!/s (please don’t be offended)
