American Spectator pretend "journalist" and professional Weeble model Matthew Vadum is not pleased with President Crack Pipe’s* plans to replace National 9/11 Shriek & Piss Yourself Day with some kind of communist hippy butt sex festival:
The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.
This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year’s election campaign. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it’s not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.
The administration’s plans were outlined in an Aug. 11 White House-sponsored teleconference call run by Obama ally Lennox Yearwood, president of the Hip Hop Caucus, and Liv Havstad, the group’s senior vice president of strategic partnerships and programs.
[...]
On the Aug. 11 call, Yearwood and other leaders kept saying repeatedly that they wanted 9/11 to be used for something "positive," "forward-leaning," and "productive," said a source with knowledge of the teleconference.
The plan is to turn a "day of fear" that helps Republicans into a day of activism called the National Day of Service that helps the left. In other words, nihilistic liberals are planning to drain 9/11 of all meaning.
"They think it needs to be taken back from the right," said the source. "They’re taking that day and they’re breaking it because it gives Republicans an advantage. To them, that day is a fearful day."
It takes a big man (with a small brain) to come out and admit that Republicans find some sort of "advantage" in owning the anniversary of the day when 2800 people were killed on American soil while on their watch.
*Also. Bonus Vadam.

I see what he do there.
His mom bought him that jacket when he was 12 years old; it has sentimental value.
I’d’ve expected to be pissed off about this, but it’s kind of a relief. It’s been like a form of water torture waiting for them to admit that there’s something else they were never going to forget after 9/11 that they just don’t give a shit about (the brief national romance with New York and new yorkers, cleaning up New York, rebuilding New York, rebuilding the trade center, the families, the firefighters, Osama bin Laden…)
So, yeah, blow me, boys. My city got hit, people died, a lot of stuff fell over, and some of us, briefly, acted a little more human for a while. That’s what I retrieved from the ashes.
If you want to hold on to the stuff that had meaning for you, I’m sure you can arrange to meet up with the rest of the wolverines in the camping stove aisle of a suburban Target dressed like James Lileks and piss yourselves.
Being that Jean Fraude Vadam is a Repub and Repubs are so into liberatin’ and stuff, someone needs to liberate Squeeky’s gelatinous rolls from that jacket. Those poor, poor buttons.
You got it in one. I am not a NY’er, but that was my reaction in general–except, I am pissed about it. Oh, it’s a weary pissed, but pissed nonetheless. For seven long years, W. and his posse have turned 9/11 into their personal springboard for dismantling the Constitution and basically pissing on small-d democracy in America. They have cold-bloodedly wrapped 9/11 around themselves as a shield for any criticism of their actions. Anyone who objected was called unpatriotic and treasonous.
Obama wants to make the day mean more than just empty rhetoric and destructive policy-setting? Fucking good for him. It’s telling that this asshat views service to one’s country as nihilistic. Jackass, the word doesn’t mean what you think it does. Fuck you.
Not to belabor the point about the freakin’ jacket but he knew he was gonna be on TV, so you would think he put on his best, “Sunday go to meetin’clothes”, wouldn’t you? Well, that also assumes he is sane, which runs somewhat contrary to the evidence.
Don’t y’all know that the only way for the “nation to heal” is to kill more brown people?
(BTW, anyone else click on that Spectator link, only to be greeted by that frightening Michele Malkin popup? Yeessshhh.)
Sheesh, why don’t they just shitcan the rhetoric and start screeching “MY PRECIOUS! That bad Obama democratssss is taking MY PRECIOUS!”
That’s the denial jacket. I know it well. I have a dress that I used to squeeze myself into well past the expiration date because I didn’t want to accept that it no longer fit.
He’s saying, “See???? I can still button the buttons”, without acknowledging that the buttons are gonna blow at any tim.
Hey I can do the Vadam Dance too!
Vadam wears his 5th grade confirmation suit. It’s too tight.
Sometimes crack dealers wear clothes that are too tight.
Therefore Vadam is a crack dealer!
This is fun!
You gotta admire a man who volunteers that “a day of fear” helps Republicans — at least he’s not trying to sugar coat the fact that his tribe lives and breathes death and destruction and must have a steady supply of horror to sustain their existence.
Also. “Erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks” — I didn’t know Obama had already developed that brainwashing tool we all feared. Shit. I guess we must all obey, huh? It’s not like 9/11 might mean something different to each of us and can continue to do so, irrespective of what Yearwood or Vadum might want or declare… free will and all that?
Stop criticizing Vadum’s jacket. It’s just his way of trying to push up another extra chin and thus rise in the conservative hierarchy.
“I didn’t know that Vadum was a Three Chin Man. I’ll have to pay more attention to his work.”
“The plan is to turn a “day of fear” that helps Republicans…”
Well, Obama could raise the color coded threat assessment on 9/11, to pay respects to Republican politics. Personally, I’d make it a 2 day celebration – 8/6 and 9/11 – and rename it Republican Are Normally Incompetent and Consequences Involve Death. RANCID, for short.
Perhaps, this guy is right, though…we should collectively remember the fear of letting Republicans run our government.
Nice Monkee caption on the pic, btw. This fella is Beta-Monkee material.
Next thing you know, Obama will cancel the Two Minutes’ Hate. That’s when the terrorists win.
So somehow cowering to fear is the proper response, but attempting to grow through the experience and find an expanded purpose for being alive is nihilism? Oh, shut the fuck up with words that you trot out to impress rubes who still fear the evils of communism and Marxism but have no fucking idea what those concepts would be if they bit them in the ass.
“Erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks…”
Oh Noes! Then the terrorists will have died in vain!
The meaning they need to erase is incompetency of the clown prince and his court. If I were them, I’d shut my triple-chinned yap and pound on the Kenyan putting zebra skins on the walls of the Oval Office. Makes more sense.
If we don’t all spend the day watching amateurish Flash animations of eagles weeping as the towers burn to the tune of bad country singers telling us how proud they are to live in America, the terr’ists have won.
“At Play In The Fields Of The KKKracker Penis”

Brilliant.
Shorter Matthew Vadum: The only colored people killed on 9/11 were hijackers.
(For wingnuttery so purely insane you could use it as a starter for something bacterial, check out the comments to that article at the American Expectorator. The first one blames the events of 9/11 on gun control, and it just gets better after that.)
This is just more proof of the emotional immaturity of rethugs. IIRC, there are stages of the grieving process, and reaching the final stage of acceptance is the normal, healthy thing that happens when you are dealing with normal, healthy human beings. Rethugs? Not so much.
They want to stick with the fear/anger stage, and flog that sucker in perpetuity. But only because it gets votes from the piss-your-pants-in-fear set, not because it has any actual meaning other than “this lets us kill more brown people, and that’s better than Vi*gra!”
My son was born on Sept. 11 (not that year). The date casts a pall on what for him should be a happy occasion. It would be great if we could all move beyond this by each of us doing something positive to mark the day.
Leave the Republicans to wallow forever in fear and loathing.
Oh god yes. Clicked on that before I had my coffee too. Had to go right upstairs to wash my eyes out with bleach.
when that jacket button finally blows somebody is gonna lose an eye!
I don’t know…I’m shocked that 9/11 be anything more than a day of reverence towards the people who died and a day to recall how evil the Islamic terrorists who killed those people are. A day to rededicate towards eradicating the people who would end our way of life. Not change it into some fascist SA-Brigade for “service”. THAT is sickening.
You’re such a DLoerke.
That’s cool, man. The rest of us will do something for our country on September 11, while you wave a flag with one hand and jerk off with the other.
“Reverence towards the people who died”? Yeah, I’m sure every one of those several thousand people would feel great that one day out of every 365, they go from being vilified urban un-American cosmopolites to being a matched set of anti-raghead voodoo fetishes. Collect ‘em all!
Let me set it up for you. It was beautiful, Sept. 11 in New York. A lovely, perfect day. Dry and sunny. I saw a fire in one of the Towers before going down into the subway — the 2, I believe, and taking it from Brooklyn, under downtown to 7th avenue and 14th, then walking to Union Square. By then, I noticed both towers were on fire. And people started to understand what was going on.
I got to work, like millions of others, only to realize the full truth. Not really knowing what to do, my co-workers and i milled around, tried to get information, watched the tv in the director’s office and then some of us went up to the roof. Where we saw one of the Towers fall — we were about 2 miles away. What struck me was the silence. I never heard it, just saw it.
The first response: Work’s over. Second response: Get in touch with friends and family. Third response: What can we do to help?
The third response for me was probably first in many other minds that day. It was evidenced by the streams of people walking toward the Towers. The people who snaked around the three hospitals I walked past in an effort to give blood (we were told there weren’t many who needed it). The people who gave comfort to those walking uptown caked in ash. Hundreds of thousands of people helped on that day. Even vampiric screws like Rudy Guiliani turned human that day. They didn’t whine about the evils of terrorism right then — they engaged in surviving, trying to do the right thing, trying to maintain.
The fear and cynicism came next. Fear was inevitable, of course. But the cynicism, the fearmongering, the egged-on bloodlust, that was pure Republicanism. They made a bad situation immeasurably worse. You can see it in fake or real responses like yours (I neither know, nor care, if you are a spoof or a genuine dick). You sound like a Serb crying over St. Vitus day in 1299. A nativist loser whose myths are needed to give you what you think of as moral weight. To give your hate and endless stupidity an outlet. Completely useless, of course — the dead need your pity and fake tears not at all — but it’s a butch way to give in to your fears of a supernatural Other, a spectral ghost of Islamic boogeymen and armies of infidels who surely want to kill you in your basement redoubt.
Doing something decent and constructive is as foreign to you as self-awareness. Doing it to spite the stated aims of terrorists is beyond your ability to comprehend. Instead, you’d rather weep and gnash and lead us further into the abyss. Go fuck yourself.
I don’t think fascist means what you think it means. Fascism is also known as corporatism, which is the act of putting corporations’ interests ahead of the people’s. Which is pretty much what the rethugs have been doing since forever. It’s obvious you get your talking points from that stellar intellect Jonah Goldberg. So, please go back to cowering in the basement in a puddle of piss. Also, fuck off you simpering idiot.
You owe me a new keyboard for that one.
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aside from wishing DLoerke more pleasure than is due, that was rather good to read, even if a sad reminder of the day.
And as a fellow New Yorker, I thank you for your wonderful summary.
Well said. Thank you.
You, sir, win the Internet.
I’ll be copying that for future use.
That was beautifully said. What better way to honor the memory of the fallen than to do something good for our country? Keep singing this song.
Thanks everyone, but I got a little over earnest there for a second and it’s always half-annoying to read such things.
Millions of people had the same or a similar day and we all have our relatively prosaic stories to tell.
That said, I do think the overwhelming majority of us — to judge by voting patterns and general sentiment — do NOT want genocidal douchebags to speak for us and tell us how we should feel about what we saw and felt.
I like it better when people like that don’t want to claim New York and other decadent, Fifth Column coastal cities as American in any way. It feels more honest.
Nicely done, sir.
The new symbol of Rethuglican America: the bald eagle wearing Depends.
Thank you for being such an articulate spokesman for the rest of us. What a sad day for all of us that we’re even having this discussion. Shame on Vadum and DLoerke and all the rest of them. Seriously, shame on them … How they live with themselves is beyond me …
Indeed. And thank you.
As a fellow New Yorker, I relish the “otherness” of the city. Among other things, most New Yorkers are too busy with real lives to bother with the paranoid fantasies that fill the lives and minds of people like DLoerke.
As I once read an Irish pub owner describe his response to the IRA bombings: just sweep up the glass, hose off the blood, and re-open the pub. The fetishization of mass murder is truly, truly sick.
When they invade to liberate our country from the Kenyan Usurper I hope they don’t look like that guy.
He couldn’t defeat a paper bag.
