Saturday in Washington DC an estimated bajillion times infinity people showed up to protest the election that took place over ten months ago when America was all "We need a new President. Do you have anything in black?" and that Halfrican guy raised his hand and we were all, "Close enough for government work. " And so we made him the boss of us.
The end.
But obviously not and a bunch of shouty white people felt compelled to abandon their weekend trailer park pied-à-terres and descend upon our nation’s capital to, well, do something.
As was the case with the bulk of the protesters, there was very little sense that anyone had any actual specific complaint with Obama’s health care proposals. That one woman loves the confederacy. This guy thinks guns are great and diversity is stupid. Many protesters feel that abortion is murder and/or that Barack Obama is in league with terrorists.
The biggest debate seems to be over how many bitter clingers actually attended Saturday’s festivities, with estimates ranging from as high as 2 million to as low as the Duggar family. Rick Moran at Right Wing Nuthouse threw a bunch of number shit against the wall and tried to average it out, but to no avail. Probably because he included an estimate provided by Neo-Confederate Robert Stacy McCain who, we assume, once again applied the Three-Fifths Compromise when counting people of the dusky hue. Needless to say, McCain wasn’t very helpful, and only reinforced the maxim that one should never try to talk numbers with a guy who has to take his pants off to count to 20½.
So what was Saturday all about? For that we turn to the keen analysis of fake doctor Melissa Clouthier who explains it all for us:
Here’s a couple thoughts:
1. The libs must be completely freaked out. They are obsessing over the details.
2. If they obsess over the details they can ignore the big picture–which is that a lot of Americans are unhappy at the intrusion and scope of the government.
3. If the Left had organically amassed this many people it would have been called…oh, the Civil Rights movement. And of course, the left is screaming racism. Where are the black people, they ask? Well, interestingly, that 15% of the U.S. population is overwhelming still please with the President’s work. Also, black voters voted almost exclusively for Barack Obama.
If 3% of blacks voted against Barack Obama and say .5% of them are outraged at the President’s policies, what would that be in real numbers? Not too big. And actually, I can think of a bunch of unhappy black anti-Obama folks right off the top of my head. Are they racist?
Wait, what…?
Are the white Independents and Democrats who voted for President Obama but are now disaffected, racists? There were those sorts of people at the DC march. Are they racist?
Uh….well… I don’t think tha-….
When black people were angry at President Bush, were they racist? When white liberals were angry at President Bush were they racist? When President Bush lost the middle and a chunks of the right, were those people racist? I mean, they hated the policies of a white guy.
Well Melissa, you’ve got us there. You can’t argue with that kind of logic. And, to the credit of the teabaggers, this certainly wasn’t racist:
Although if he had been from the National Lynching Association, then it might have been misconstrued as racist.
People can be so sensitive these days…

I hope each and every one of them spurns their Food Stamps, AFDC, and unemployment benefits (and Medicare and Social Security when the time comes). What better way to protest entitlement programs out of control than to refuse to participate in them?
“Here’s a couple thoughts” promises Melissa, and she had me all erect and at attention. But then she merely proceeds to drool along and prove that single-cell organisms can, apparently, manage to blog. Of course, on her “about” page she claims “I blog with children literally sitting on my head”, and that would perhaps help explain things. But just as she apparently uses “literally” without actually meaning “literally” she seems to also use “racist” as some casual term to imply whatever she wants to to imply.
Fail, Melissa. Fail.
In this case ,she was blogging with her head literally up a child’s ass.
Now that the Teatoddlers are done making asses out of themselves , the trailer park called , it wants it’s trash back.
Wow, they must have totally crammed the DC Metro and clogged the streets, just like what happened at Obama’s inaugural. Except that this really did happen at Obama’s inaugural and it didn’t happen with the teabaggers.
Speaking only for one “lib”, I know I can say that I personally am “scared senseless” just like Dr. Melissa says. Those fat, old white people are skeery.
Oh yeah . . ACORN! Also.
Warrantless wiretapping, selectively applied habeas corpus, war deficits…. oh fuck it, these people are impervious to logic.
See, all of that was OK when it was a white guy doing it.
Am I hateful because I think that the picture at the top of Dr. Melissa’s blog is cute as hell?
Also. “Conservative activists, who organized a march on the U.S. Capitol today in protest of the Obama administration’s health care agenda and government spending, erroneously attributed reports on the size of the crowds to ABC News,” ABC News reported.
Yes, ABC News, you were played. Perhaps that’s because you’ve allowed wingnuttia to become comfortably accustomed to ABC News delivering for them without question when some insane astroturf meme about the demise of our freedoms at the hands of those nasty, nasty kenyabortiofascistaxhippies needs to be spread far and wide. “Lie down with dogs” and all that (bassets not included, some assembly required)…
I think the confusion in the attendance numbers is due to the large number of DragonCon attendees getting lost in DC after their Atlanta event. Take a look at the DragonCon photos and compare with the teabagger photos. You can see how people would confuse the two. (Or maybe the teabaggers were just trying for a new Thriller record.)
Well if little missy Melissa (I refuse to refer to quacks as “Drs.”) twists spines like she twist facts and logic, I would hate to see her malpractice insurance premiums. She does have one thing right. I really am afraid of the inchoate anger and resentment, not to mention overt racism, that the teabagger movement represents. That is not because they represent any significant number of people or ever have any chance of imposing their insane and incoherent agenda on America. It is because of the extreme likelihood that they are going to do something profoundly stupid, violent, and destructive. I have seen too many assassinations, bombings, and domestic terrorist attacks already in my 57 years.
So the wingers have their own “Free Mumia!” crowd-within-a-crowd? Big surprise. One of the personal elements of satisfaction I had (and still enjoy) from voting for Obama was that the black man would drive the idiots into the wall.
QED.
(And on unrelated note, I hope the TeaToddler crowd never gets its own Kent State-type shooting event – it really sucks, and people die)
Right on, DrDick. I know they are a minority, but they are a violent, ugly, hateful, grotesque minority who are ready to boil over. That much hatefulness NEEDS an outlet.
TBogg, man. The title and lede were just brilliant. Kudos to you, sir!
As for the Grumpy Old (White) Men, I will merely quote Dan Savage (while adding my own special twist), “We will outlive you, muthafuckahs!”
Not that I morally could have, mind you, but we had ‘em all rounded up yesterday…’splainy to me again why couldn’t we have just finished the job and have them taken to the internment camps?
Senator Olympia Snow just said on Face The Nation that a bill with the public option WILL NOT pass the Senate. This is a dead issue, it’s over and any further effort to try and force the public option on anyone will fail.
There will be NO PUBLIC OPTION. WHAT DON’T YOU GET ABOUT THAT?
As I noted elsewhere, when about 2 million showed up in January for Obama’s inauguration the following happened…
1. Metro had to run special trains starting at about 5 am, all day, well into that night.
2. people had to wait hours to get a train. I don’t mean that as a euphuism, they literally had to wait in line up to a couple hours to get a train. My cousin and her friend got back to the West Falls Church station at about 6 pm having started back in the early afternoon.
3. all the bridges into DC were closed, restricted to the several thousand buses that brought in people
4. The entire Mall was lined with thousands of porta potties
5. The entire Mall, from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol building was wall to wall people standing elbow-to-elbow with the surrounding streets as crowded with those who couldn’t get onto the Mall.
6. The highways into town had backups for miles with all the buses and cars. I-95 north into DC had traffic piled up as far a Fredericksburg (about 45 miles away) (this according to friends who live there. Fredericksburg schools CLOSED because they expected that level of traffic)
Any of that happen this time? Nope. Traffic was normal. There was also a marathon or some such race downtown and a festival at the Kennedy Center which went off without a hitch.
Don’t get me wrong, 60-70,000 is great turnout for a protest. that’s a LOT of pissed off white folks. it’s a great demonstration of the effectiveness of the republican/Faux News/Talk Radio lie machine. But get real. if they had over 100,000 I’d be shocked. A million? Why not claim there were unicorns there too.
Well, we can start with the fact that 60% of the people in Snowe’s own state of Maine want a public option in the final bill. I mean, does she really want to explain why she’s siding against a sizable majority of the people she was elected to represent?
And that if we have to use reconciliation, Snowe is unnecessary in the final calculus.
Why not claim there were unicorns there too.
What!?!? You mean there weren’t any unicorns? I was told there were unicorns. I heard it from some guy who heard it from another guy who saw it in a comment from some anonymous guy over at RedState.
Hey!
Jeez, dude, way to steal my joke that I stole off someone else.
I shall eat a teabag in protest.
I love the smell of shit-all stupid, quasi-pseudo-libertarian, right-wing Xtian, rapture-ready, gun-crazy racist FoxNews douchebags. Smells like…
…the fragrance of Dumbfuckistan.
So unfair. I’m sure he realizes by now that dusky hued folks count as a whole person. He’s moved on. Now he applies a 5/3 ratio when counting white people. Hence the high turnout.
While assuming that Robert Stasi McCainMutinyInMyPants realizes/understands anything is a perilous enterprise, I suspect you have the process correct.
Those who are overestimating the size of the 9/12 crowd may have a point. Who knows how many of them set off for D.C. but were too fucking stupid to find it?
“Who knows how many of them set off for D.C. and were too fucking stupid to find it?”
Or those who considered going to Washington, D.C., but then thought, “No, wait. All my appliances are AC. Oh, well…”
Or thought that the District of Columbia was in South America and are now wandering lost in Medellin and Cali.
While I am certainly enjoying the snark and all that, I agree with Dr. Dick that all this anger and WRMedia-pumped crazy has no where to go but bad. This concerns me. It doesn’t take much more than an amoeba’s level of intellect to operate a firearm, and these bastards have significant stocks of both. Plus Faux Spews has already catapulted the propaganda on the size of the crowd, with the rest of the so-called media falling in line like the beaten corporate curs that they are.
Our best chance now is that the fluoride will finally have the effect we’ve all been waiting for.
Our best chance now is that the fluoride will finally have the effect we’ve all been waiting for.
We are doomed. These people only drink corn liquor and Coors Lite and they do not bath or brush their teeth.
I saw there were estimates of 30,000 to 70,000 tea baggers who showed up. My friend who produced the KGB Skyshow at Qualcomm stadium said they got 50,000 people there last night. If classic rock and fireworks are all it takes to get 50,000 people in one place, why should we be awed by at best 70,000 people who got a free ticket to DC?
Okay, so this part:
Well, interestingly, that 15% of the U.S. population is overwhelming still please with the President’s work.
“is overwhelming still please”?
That comes as close to just drooling on the keyboard and hitting “post” as you’re likely to see, even for a blog post by a right winger.
Also worth noting that current polling shows over 50% “pleased” with the president’s handling of issues. Admittedly down from the beginning of the summer, but nowhere near Dubya’s bargain basement numbers.
We are doomed. These people only drink corn liquor and Coors Lite and they do not bath or brush their teeth.
I think their drink of choice is more along the lines of Ensure or Metamucil
Not funny. We can leave that type of humor to the other side.
Not plural, just the one unicorn.
Sarah Palin was riding it, leading her minions into battle.
“is overwhelming still pleased”
Just bad proofreading. dropping a letter
happenscan happen to anyone.the important question is, was Jenny there?
Some great photos here. Note the trash they left behind for taxpayers to clean up.
More wingnut signage: “THANK YOU FOX NEWS FOR KEEPING US INFROMED.” http://tinyurl.com/m4ewfx
Wingnut sign – “I’d rather go to bed supperless than rise in debt” (Alas, not true. Her thighs would feed a hundred wingnut cannibals.)
This one probably wins the day.
Well, I thought it was funny, but then I thought Tbogg’s was a scold-free zone.
I thought you had to be a virgin to ride a unicorn.
“DeMint told Fox News that today’s attendees were “informed” and “outraged.” “I’ve never been so proud to be an American,” he said.” [1]
Hmm, so this is the most proud DeMint has ever been of the US… I seem to recall a certain amount of, what’s the word, outrage- yes, that’s it – about Michelle Obama’s time to be proud of the US. But this is, you know, different, so I doubt there’ll be much about it from the same people who were squawking before.
[1] http://thinkprogress.org/2009/09/12/912-signs/
DeMint certainly knows his constituency.
Did they are come to the march together in a clown car?
Is DeMint DeTreat you eat after DeDinner?
Ya gots ta have big shoes for a march. And a funny honk honk horn.
There sure are a lot of names I don’t recognize earlier here. I’m feeling not known.
I like to make fun of idots as much as every other playground jerkoff, but I’d REALLY like to know the truth here. Roughly, how many people did show up for Tea Bag Day in DC?
I’m confused by all the hype and crap. I’m sure others are, too.
What really happened?
Also. “Conservative activists, who organized a march on the U.S. Capitol today in protest of the Obama administration’s health care agenda and government spending, erroneously attributed reports on the size of the crowds to ABC News,” ABC News reported
Where were all these idiots when the bush tax cuts passed and while we were spending 2 billion + per week in Iraq?
To.Stupid.To.Breathe.
DeMint is what DeBrownmaid leaves on DePillow.
3. If the Left had organically amassed this many people it would have been called…oh, the Civil Rights movement.
Actually the Left organically amasses this many people so regularly that the media doesn’t even notice anymore… It only matters when the people gathered are gun toting Republicans.
Fifty million, according to that commie David Axelrod.
Somewhere between thirty and fifty thousand, per the DCFire Dept.
28, according to The Kenosha Kid.
Take your pick, does it really matter? Buncha angry fat white people pissed off at a black president in charge.
DC Fire Dept est at 60-70,000. Late update part of the link.
At the lodge in Utah where I stay when I ski, there is a DeMint Fairy. He leaves the DeMint on DePillow too. (These DeMint Fairies have always been male in the over 30 years I’ve been staying there. In my early days, they were male ski bums; now they’re male Latinos.)
It does have a good beat. Dance the wingnut dance!
Somebody at the DCFD is gonna lose his/her job over that estimate; DC agencies decided quite some time ago (disputed when/why) never to give out crowd estimates. I wonder what prompted this person to speak to ABC?
I think I’ve figured out how healthcare has be leveraged into a right-wing hot-button issue. There are public health programs that almost everyone knows about: TRICARE for folks in the military, VA for folks who used to be in the military, Medicare for the elderly and disabled, Medicaid run by the states for low-income families and partially financed with federal funds, and public health clinic run by states or counties but funded in part with federal funds.
The folks at these teabag marches are OK with TRICARE and VA because they’ve found that the service is excellent when they’ve used them or have friends who’ve been in the military. They are OK with Medicare to the point that they don’t consider it a government program (blame that on the Medicare Advantage crap insurance). But if they have every been on Medicaid, they don’t like that because qualifying invades one’s privacy too much and the benefits are not that great. And if they have ever been so poor as to have to go to a public health clinic, they despise that because you have to wait for hours for service along with “those people”. And “those people” is not totally a matter of racism; there’s a bit of classism in there as well. Plus some of “those people” really are irresponsible and can’t hide it in a private clinic where the wait times are shorter.
So a public plan for healthcare gets associated in their mind with invasion of privacy, long waits, poor service, and having to wait for hours with “those people”.
Politicians know this and exploit it.
So I guess DeMintEd was not proud of his country before now. Where have I heard that…. nevermind.
When my son was young, he never went anywhere without his stuffed dinosaur, appropriately named Bronty. When Bronty was with us, DeMint Fairy also left DeMint for Bronty too.
Racism.
Pure unadulterated racism.
And nothing more.
Yeah, I vaguely remembered something to the effect that DC authorities had decided not to do body counts (in the now long DC tradition of not counting bodies in wars, combatants nor civilians). Don’t know where that came from, as I’ve been inside a mere hour so far today.
Thanks for your responses.
I think the truth does matter. If what I consider to be idiots got several million, I need to re-think my position.
If some # less than then !00,000 turned out, I’m still ok thinking that these folks are just a looney fringe that the Secret Service can handle.
Also, in “polite” conversation with neighbors, read here a few “reasonable GOPPERs,” I can lay these weird-ohs at their doorstep and and have them gasp in horror. OTHH if they got severval million to the mall, I’d be buying a gun.
IOKIYAR. And IOKIYANB. (not black)
This certainly will fall on deaf ears, if these comments are any indication of the type of people who read this site, so here goes. What exactly has TBagg in a kerfuffle? I lost my Gibberish to English translator.
Smith & Wesson’s stock price quadrupled between Oct & May & is now still 3 times its Oct level.
Most of the reasonable (not Fox) press estimates are in the 10,000s, not in the 100,000s. That is still a whole lotta batshit crazy and stupid.
That’s why Snowe desperately needs the Senate Bill that goes to the floor NOT have a Public Option. It would put her in a very drastic circumstance. She’d either have to vote for continuing the abysmal status zero…or vote against the Industry.
If she does the former her constituency will be PO’d If the latter her business cronies will be.
I say hold these grovellers feet to the fire. Make it a fight. Get ‘em on record. Then, if they can get the blue dogs and the Repugs to pass an alternative…let them live with the wrath of selling out.
We don’t lose anything by getting folks on the record. We might win in reconciliation. But if the Repugs have to actually vote to push the Insurance Industries agenda…if the bill smells like crap…perhaps Obama will also Veto it. If he keeps it then let them deal with the fall out.
You can’t buy ammunition (pistol, rifle, or shot gun) here in Montana, which is going to cause a few problems, since it is the start of hunting season.
Just love that “gun humor.” gulp
707 Yeah, corporate media estimates numbers by expanding exponentially when it comes to the right. Multiplies by zero when it comes to the left in acknowledging demonstrations.
Grow up. People actually hold you in esteem.
Cute.
Why not? Sold out?
Haven’t heard any complaints in from my hunter friend about ammunition shortages in the East. He prefers bow & arrow for deer, but hunts all 3 seasons. He’s won a moose permit in the VT lottery, one of the good areas. Any type of weapon allowed. If he bags one (we’ll know around Oct 25), we’re gonna have a Sarah Palin Party.
Huh?
you know, that number at the top reminds me (and this shows my age, I realize) of the title of a Marvelettes song, “Beechwood 4-5789″..
I agree. Can you imagine if a dem had called shrub a liar durring one of his addresses? Especially about the infamous 16 words.
It may Have been Kajillions, or Pillions, or Cotillions…but it waren’t Brazilliians. No samba schools in the clown parade.
Snowbirds?
The only reason there’s a double standard is because the Ds won’t stand up for themselves. They have no one else to blame.
Most likely when the highly publicized “Million Man March” came up a few hundred thousand short according to National Park Service and DCFD estimates.
Exactly!
That’s the shame of their lies — it’s a respectable sized crowd, one they can (sort of) be proud of after months of online and broadcast organizing supported by the largest cablenews operation in the USA. But by deceiving themselves, and then others, and quoting an actual news source from the stage, their lies about crowd size have been exposed far and wide.
Which makes anything anyone says about how many people were there (and the non-attendees, who the teabaggers want us to count 20:1 because so many can’t afford to make the trip in the Obama economy, seriously) entirely and completely fraudulent and suspect.
I remember yelling “That’s a Lie!!” at the TV when Bush lied about the aluminum tubes. I wish someone in Congress had said it to him to his face in real time, whether Congressional rules permitted or not.
I love that clown car picture*, it always cracks me up. Some jokes never get old. Thank you TBogg for making it so enjoyable to laugh at these idiots.

Another party needed. Scott Horton (the other one, not the lawyer) on antiwar.com wants the antiwar left to combine with the anti-war libertarians. Some possibilities there, but think there are too many differences to work. I do think their slogan is clever though: “War, Just Another Failed Government Policy.”
The number 8675309 is the lyric hook from the Tommy Tutone song, “Jenny.” Another reason to love this post – it’s a great pop song.
Explains the whole thing. She’s thinking pea party, when the rest of the troops are at a tea party.
No thanks, we need to reinvigorate the idea that government can do some things well and many things we need done. I won’t get on board any train that reinforces Reaganite memes about government being the problem.
I didn’t say I agreed, just said it was clever, giving credit where credit’s due. The Libertarians and the Lefties have civil liberties and anti-war in common, but they have a heckuva lot in opposition to each other. As an economist, I find it difficult not to ROFLMAO at the Libertarians. They know so little economics. But it is an interesting thought to noodle on whether there can be political coalitions around important issues. After all, if W could create coalitions of the willing, why can’t we? Are we not as smart and energetic as W?
W blackmailed and eavesdropped on other countries to get them to join his coalition. I really can’t see any unity between liberals and libertarians, primarily because of the fringers that hang around both groups. For instance, can you see the “Free Mumia” folks attending a peace rally alongside the Birthers?
Neither can I.
Getting the spectrum to bend around to meet on the other side has long been a dream of some; this isn’t the first I’ve heard it proposed. But I would certainly think twice before signing up with some of those folks. Not that I ever want to work in government, but look what happened to Van Jones for lending his name to a petition the wording and intent of which was changed after he signed it.
We need to be able to trust our allies, and I’m unsure the libertarians can trust the libs or vice versa. Or whether we should.
Did Glenn Beck kill a unicorn cause if he didn’t now is the time for him to prove it, huh?
birthers, baggers, deathers will never give up their food stamps, medicare, medicaid, social security, unemployment etc.. Take names and strip them of any benefits they may be entitled to. Let them pick themselves up by their boot straps. Time for them to live their philosophy.
Oh please. It’s attitudes like yours that will lead to the dems losing elections again. We’re a bunch of simpering pussies.
If there had been a lot of DragonCon folks there, the average IQ of the crowd would have gone up by at least 20 points–and that’s even accounting for all of the DC people who couldn’t parse, “The line starts outside.”
Don’t demean trailer trash, by comparing them to these yahoo’s.
was that supposed to a meaningful article or a joke?
The beauty in colors is for the fact that, it is able to change, blend and dye the traits. It is rather intolerably condescending, when typographical diabolic act of defiance is imported into the American culture, which basically lays emphasis on tolerable sense of humor, when thrown under tremendous stress. The Human being, exist to fulfill and taste to enjoy, their desires. Ponderously, hangs over the shoulders, the gigantic responsibility, our Leaders, have to expiate and expedite, in relevant adherence, to their principles and political goals. Judiciously, it does not only lie on the Leaders alone, in ensuring progressive advancement, but the general public, also has a part to play, to ensure alacrity of sustainable achievements, in order to permanently diffuse agents of sabotage and elements of base hatred. Hate should be dismantled, and eradicated from the American Society. Hate is the Horrible Attitude, Tyrannical Existence. It is Time and Period, when the United States of American, must stand, to protect Justice and Democracy, and to be in awareness that, U.S.A. IS Almighty’s own country, on earth, and to Live accordingly, ” In God We Trust “. The Wisdom of Almighty God, urges all American, to finally put aside their bickerings and personal differences, to inaugurate a new chapter in their existences, to adequately remand hate and Hatred!
To believe that these so called “Tea Parties” are anything more that artificially created FOX NEWS propaganda is ridiculous!
Only a complete and total moron would believe the regurgitated crap FOX NEWS (AKA the EXTREME RIGHT) is dishing out. Which leads me to the real point, namely that: if you are stupid enough to believe anything FOX NEWS says, then you are probably a lost cause. So keep your children away from FOX NEWS it’s dangerous to their health and well-being and it probably gives you Cancer!
