No new pictures this week so I went back to some old ones. The one of Fenway is from last year at this time. Fenway used to like to carry Beckham’s food bowl around and chew on the rim when he was bored. Now he only picks it up when it’s time to eat, carries it into the kitchen, and then let’s it drop with a big bang to get our attention. Mrs tbogg believes that it’s a sign that he’s really smart, but I didn’t notice his picture here so I’m reserving judgment.

I could chew Fenway’s face, in an affectionate non-damaging way of course.
Beckham looks like he’s minding someone’s business.
Beckham looks like he’s not going to take much more of whatever *this* is. As for Fenway, well, we all know that the handsome get away with so much more than the rest of us. (And there’s a simple test as to whether his dropping the bowl indicates intelligence: if he gets what he wants from it, then he’s pretty darned smart.)
And he does…..
I bought my beagle (or as I think of him, a basset that can jump) a puzzle ball. The concept is that the dogs will play with it for hours trying to get kibble out of the little opening. The dog figured the thing out in about 5 seconds and the kibble lasted maybe 10 minutes. Honestly I don’t think I could have gotten the food out of the thing so fast, and I solve puzzles for a living.
Of course, good luck trying to get a hound to be clever about things like not peeing on the carpet. Appetite seems to be the deciding factor in brainpower.
“The MacArthur Foundation announced today that a special Genius Grant has been awarded to the entire dog species in recognition of its success in enslaving humanity to provide food, shelter, comfortable beds and walkies for the past 15,000 years. Accepting for the dogs was Fenway, who dropped his bowl until the check was placed in it. Beckham was not available for the awards ceremony, as he was busy plotting the next step in world domination.”
Bassets bestest.

He does squat in terms of protection, companionship, or any other identifiable usefulness to your household, and you feed him on command, shelter and look to his medical needs in return.
So, that’s not smart?
He IS smart – he trained y’all, didn’t he?
I speculate that in addition to being an endless source of amusement, Fenway is cute and cuddly, and a useful substitute for a hot water bottle on cold days. He is also available for modeling every Thursday.
Again with the posing in front of books.
It’s damn hard to take a picture anywhere in our house without books in it. No. Don’t ask about the bathrooms.
I was going to try to make some smart-ass comment about Fenway training his people, but then I saw yours and realized nothing I could say could come close to topping that. LOL!
In that case, he’s the canine version of a Tribble.
