I will be spending this evening at the thee-ah-tur, in the company of other aficionados of classical culture, watching Kathy Griffin give a reading of Annie Dilliard’s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek with minor updates incorporating the lives and loves of Mackenzie Phillips, Whitney Houston, and, with any luck, Heidi Klum.
Talk amongst yourselves.
Ta ta.
(Updated): There was no Mackenzie Phillips or Heidi Klum, but there was lots of Whitney, Oprah, Barbara Walters, Levi Johnston, Britney, Miley Cyrus, Latoya Jackson, Paula Abdul, and crying Glenn Beck ("a Mormon on heroin"). Also. It was the gayest audience I’ve ever been a part of, and I’ve been to see the Indigo Girls.
It will be on Bravo Nov. 3rd. I’m the one yelling "Freebird Wolverines!".

Ah, theatre. I shall spend the evening wathing a recorded performance of the musical version of Planet of the Apes.
Whatever Kathy Griffin has to say about Mackenzie Phillips, I want to hear it.
Actually, let me rephrase that. I didn’t want to hear what Mackenzie Phillips had to say about Mackenzie Phillips. Kathy Griffin on Mackenzie Phillips is capable of destroying my mind, or whatever is loosely based on it.
I’m watching Adam-12 reruns on hulu.
What can I say, I’ve always liked the simple style of Jack Webb.
Let me just say I’m bitter and jealous that you and Mom went without me…
Kathy Griffin is great. Not as great at Patton Oswalt, but she is great. And she knows her audience.
Damn, so that’s how I can get my daughters to communicate with me, by starting a blog….
Point two, Adam-12 was Martin Milner and Kent McCord. Webb was on Dragnet.
Point three, I’m married and have three kids, and yet I am able to enjoy Kathy Griffin completely. Does this mean I’ve been living a lie?
He also created Adam-12.
I may know too much about 40 year old television shows….
I’m with misty3k on this one.
Patton Oswalt and Kathy Griffin are the funniest folks workin’ in the business right now. We’re big John Pinette fans as well.
Exactly. Webb’s fingerprints are all over that series, even if he didn’t star in front of the camera.
Webb also directed and starred in one of the best boot camp movies; “The D.I.” Both “Tribes” and “Full Metal Jacket” both owe a debt to Webb’s mostly-realistic portrayal of boot.
Webb also directed and starred in “-30-” a very Webb-like look at the world of the newspaper biz.
Ooooh that big sweaty arm hammering out Jack’s production company’s mark.
Clang….CLAAANNNGGG
Yeah, “The D.I” would be on my list of all time great right-wing movies.
Also.
I got to meet Kathy at a party once, and she’s exactly as funny, nice and smart in person as she is on her show. With the exception of whatever it is she’s done to her face; there is nothing phony about her.
Kathy Griffin is nice? Oh, come one, pull the other one.
Thanks for reminding me of that one. It’s another favorite. I like Webb’s low-key style and, always, black-and-white is always right.
Classic Jack Webb scene closer:
Cop 1 “Well, one thing’s for sure. . . “
Cop 2 “Yeah?”
Cop 1 “They guy who killed Henderson?”
Cop 2 “Yeah?”
Cop 1 “He knew he would be alone.”
DOM-DA-DOM-DOMMMMMM
