Then I thought, “That Obama…he’s a pretty Shrewd guy. That’s Shrewd with a capital S.”

I was one of those who didn’t want to see the Olympics come to Salt Lake City; I only wanted to learn how to say “Go Home!” in 47 different languages. But I gotta say, once it happened, it was a lot of fun. Salt Lake seemed like a real city for once, with loud drunks on the streets downtown, the huge banners on all the buildings; it was great. Yeah, it cost a bundle, but we also got infrastructure out of it that we never would have gotten from the cheap-ass Mormon legislature (their motto: “if the Lard wanted you to have it, he would have told the General Authorities!” So we got a light-rail line, expanded freeways, new dorms at the University of Utah, and on and on. And yes, we got to see the Mittster’s smiling mug on the news all the time. What’s not to like about that! At least he’s not 90 years old like the rest of the Bretheren.

Just wait and see what happens if the Olympics go to someone else. “ZOMG, Obambi couldn’t even get the Olympics!1!”.

I used to live in Chicago and had a T-shirt that said, “Welcome to Chicago, now leave while you are still alive.” It was one of my favorites, especially during Cubs games (I lived 5 blocks from Wrigley Field and all the suburbanites made parking and my life hellish).

If Chicago doesn’t get the games then it will be Obama’s fault. If Chicago does get the games then that will be attributed to behind the scenes work by Mitt Romney.
If the war in Afghanistan isn’t concluded successfully by 2012 then it will be Obama’s fault. If it is concluded successfully then the success will be attributed to Bush.

If G.C.Gomer is really concerned about murder and crime, he should be aware that the other favorite for the Olympics is Rio. Seems to me that their murder rate was more than Chicago at 50 per week some time ago, and it’s only “worse” now.

I, too, was an Olympic anti-booster who came to appreciate the Games because of the infrastructure improvements. What completely gobsmacked me was that they managed to do a terrific job with the light rail line; I’d thought that any Utah public service person would just die just die rather than travel by not-SUV – and I’m very happy I was wrong. UTA snuck some good people in there.
