I’m going to start this off Matt Drudge style:
BLACK MAN ORDERED NOT TO RUN BY REPUBLICANS
Awesome.
Okay, here’s the story from RedStateStrikeForceWolverineMedia:
You know Larry Elder: the African-American, Californian, libertarian, popular radio host and firebrand. He’s been around for a while, and he’s a solid presence on the California media-and-politics scene. Elder is a serious name and presence among California Republicans. He just wrapped up his radio show. “Why,” you might ask, “doesn’t Larry Elder run for the Senate?”
There is an answer accorinding(sic) to many of Elder’s friends at the Republican Convention — Senator Cornyn and the NRSC told him not to.
Here’s the story that is circulating at the convention: Back in the spring, Elder went to Washington to sit down with John Cornyn and the NRSC, and ask for their support for a bid for U.S. Senate against Barbara Boxer. Cornyn and the NRSC told him the following:
- If Elder chose to run, they would not support him.
- The NRSC was already committed to supporting Carly Fiorina
- The NRSC expected Fiorina to lose against Boxer, but expected her to tie up Democrat resources in the meantime.
So Larry Elder came back to California and did not run. You know the rest: he’s watched the Fiorina campaign move from crisis to crisis (failure to vote, Iran sales, revelation of no self-funding, no CRP attendance, this Rasmussen poll, that website, etc.), and feeling increasingly frustrated. It’s probably too late for him to enter and Larry is hot under the collar that Cornyn gave him such terrible advice. So he’s talking to his friends — and his friends are talking to us — and I’m talking to you.
How incompetent is this? The NRSC actually told a popular African-American with statewide name recognition to NOT run? Last I checked, our party isn’t overflowing with those.
Oh, and the NRSC expects Carly Fiorina to lose to Barbara Boxer — and they told a talk radio host this?
This is so full of win.

What brilliant strategy on the NRSC’s part. It wants us to think it wants Carly to lose. Ha, fool me once don’t fool me again. Also.
And just to think, up until a few minutes ago, I lived my life without knowing who the fuck Larry Elder was.
So, Larry Elder did as he was told by his Rethug Masters. Shouldn’t RedNeckState be happy that he didn’t get all uppity and make his own decision on running?
Larryfornia?
I’m cracking up here. Yeah, the GOP has a serious case of teh stoopids. Heh heh heh.
Need. More. Popcorn. Today’s metaphysical conundrum: is it dumber to take GOP advice and then live to regret it, or to elect to ignore GOP advice and then have to live your life with the nagging realization that you once considered their advice even worth considering?
Why can’t the GOP understand that teh black voters in CA kept everyone from becoming opposite married? It’s those icky girls in the Senate that wants to keep all the rugged many men all frilly and wussy and make them go shopping with them when all they want to do is sit home and watch rugged, manly football on the TV.
Besides, everyone knows how popular right-wing radio talk show hosts are. That’s why their on the exclusive AM dial!
Well, then where are you from? Because Redstate says Larry Elder has statewide name recognition, and aren’t they always right?
I’m in Sacramento, and I’ll ask around today if anyone — anyone — around here has heard of him, and I’m sure the response will be overwhelming…
Going to the NRSC for anything related to running a Blue State senatorial campaign calls into question Elder’s competence.
Giving up after the NRSC said “Nuh-uh,” calls into question Elder’s commitment to running.
As for “statewide name recognition”: I’ve only lived in California for a few decades yet I never heard of Elder until I read this post. I Googled his name and found that he’s nothing more, or less, than another rightwing, anti-tax gasbag with a cut-and-paste Republican agenda.
Anyone who takes ANY advice from John Cornyn, who makes homemade straw and clay bricks look like candidates for a Nobel Prize in science, pretty much deserves what he gets. BTW, Cornyn is just one pair of overalls and a ‘76 Camaro on blocks in his front ‘yard’ away from being Ma and Pa Kettles’ drooling grandson.
And they want to run the person who nearly ruined Hewlett Packard against Barbara Boxer?
Idiots.
And they want to run the person who nearly ruined Hewlett Packard against Barbara Boxer?
Remember: The GOP has spent the last 15 years in a national campaign against competence. Knowing what you’re talking about is considered sooooo elitist (see Goldberg, Jonah). Running a successful business is considered a major handicap (see Bush, George W.). So Crash-N-Burn Carly is a perfect GOP candidate.
Whoah, I’m way out of state then, like Jacksonville FL way out. You know, home of that guy Jeb Bush?
Closest Libertarian radio firebrand we have around here is Neil Boortz up in Atlanta. He may be a little better known.
(And no, I’m not counting Rush down in West Palm.)
Larry Elder is srictly a Los Angeles phenomenom, a b-list radio yakker whose show on local KABC was cancelled last year. Syndication of the show was cancelled in 2007. Had a brief trial on FOX with “Showdown with Larry Elder” (!!!!!), which crashed and burned without delay.
His heyday, if he can be said to ever have had one, was probably in the waning days of the Clinton Admin, and I seem to remember him making some waves back then with something obnoxiously stupid he said on-air, but can’t recall what it was, or be bothered to look it up.
The GOP needs one African American in the House Senate or as Gov just what were they thinking?
Bobby Jindal is the lone brown face of the GOP in a country with its first African American President is the GOP afraid that if larry ran the 20%ers would leave?
Is it required to turn in one’s brain to become a Rethug or is the requirement to not have one to start with? Enquiring minds…
I thought the Rethugs wanted Carly the Business Genius as VP for Caribou Barbie.
lolWin?
Zenlike, the question contains its own answer.
Ha! The plan is working as planned!
Also,
I’m old enough to remember signs like the one in the pic. My grampa and I hung out at the train station quite a bit on weekends and I remember the separate seating areas, bathrooms and water fountains. I thought I would live long enough to see an end to that attitude. Guess not.
I can’t believe the GOP is burning the few bridges to African American votes it has, after years of Lou Dobbs and now Glen Beck Hispanic votes for the GOP are a non starter even if Jeb speaks Spanish.
Who would vote for that House Nigger ? Doesn’t Michael Steele fulfiull the RNC’s quota?
And y’all know how much the corn fed, corn loving, cornhole hisself loves him some Kaliforyna. We must help the nice man. Nice old man belongs in a home. But his family won’t allow authorities to commit him? Something about entitlements, or was it titles? It’s what he owns in CA that matters.
Ah, the Party of Lincoln.
“3.The NRSC expected Fiorina to lose against Boxer, but expected her to tie up Democrat resources in the meantime”
Or, ‘California is a lost cause, so we don’t care if it gets loster’
It’s hard for the NRSC to suss out the right choice when even their ‘negatives’ column includes “This is good news for Republicans!”
Elder would probably provide more controversy than the Republicans want. Too bad. Elder versus Boxer would have been verrrrry interesting. In some ways Elder would be catnip for conservative whites, but I think he would repel rather than attract black voters. And those agitating for the legalization of cocaine are a pretty small niche of the voting public.

I’m having a contest with my friends in Montana to see who has the most offensive Senator. (No, not Testor. Geez.) My boy John “Mamma drop’t me on mah haid” Cornyn surges into an almost insurmountable lead with this one. Go Texas. Whoooo! We’re number dumb! Wait till he opens his mouth again in the Finance Committee markup. Take THAT, BIG SKY!
Funny Larry Elder quote”
Wonder why they won’t support him?
I wouldn’t get too excited about being “number dumb” just yet.
I seem to recall a Senator in close proximity to Texas that just might give your man a run for his money. Name escapes me, but I’m thinking Shelby is it; that guy ain’t exactly a walking encyclopedia of knowledge.
I dunno, this is a good contest. I’d like to see that contest on Fox. Call it American Idiot. I might just watch Fox for that kind of comedy.
a popular African-American with statewide name recognition
So someone over at RedState knows two people in CA, both of whom have heard of Elder… I can’t imagine a group of people who have a more fundamental break with reality yet aren’t on lithium.
Sure puts that whole bipartisanship thing in perspective…
I still don’t know who TF Larry Elder is.
Just looked it up, Richard Shelby, from Alabama.
Man, I’ve heard that guy speak before and it made me embarrassed that anyone that dumb could be elected to a statewide office in the my good ‘ole USA.
Course then I heard Sarah Palin speak…..
Your guys are true shit 4 brains senators, but it’s Inhofe from Oklahoma who is the Senate’s wanker in chief …& he wins #Dumb going away.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Inhofe
LOL, not my Senators, I’m from Virginia. (Hides face when remembering George Allen was my Senator, BLUSH).
I had to look it up to remember his name and exactly which state.
I’ll have to take your word on Inhofe. I haven’t heard him speak much. I gave Shelby a listen a couple of times while watching CSPAN for something, and the man just oozed DUMBSHIT out of every pore, especially his mouth.
But Sarah Palin set off a new level of dumb. And that batchit crazy woman from Minnesota set off a new level of crazy.
Ya gotta admit. Sometimes it’s fun to keep tabs on the GOP just to watch the new levels of wackiness they can achieve. Or at least it would be fun if so Goddammed many Americans didn’t swallow their bullshit so easily.
Libertarians are already misdguided . An African American libertarian sounds like he must just be, another right wing opportunist.
Maybe I shouldn’t give the RNC any ideas…but maybe what they should do if they really want to tie up Democratic Party Funds in California is…
…funnel money to PROGRESSIVE opponents to people like Feinstein, Dennis Cardoza, Jane Harman, etc. This then would result in either those candidates having less money to throw around or perhaps actually losing. Then you’ve got a race between a Progressive and an Ideologue Right-Winger. And even if the Progressive won in the General…you’re forcing the Democrats to the left, and actually into a position of passing legislation which isn’t watered down or contain “poison pills”.
In other words, right where the Republicans want them.
It’s unfair to the numb-nuts Senators to compare them to Spice Bible.
She is after all – a not-a senator and all alone in her unique class of Dumb.
HaHa, I wasn’t talking about Senators W & W from VA, They seem quite sane.
I thought it was Cornyn & Shelby that were the subjects of who is dumber or from the coldest and most distant planet.
I am slowly coming around to the idea that we are an idiocracy. about 90% idiots to 5 semi competent to 5% actually competent. Everything that I have seen and read over the past 30 or so years leads me to believe this. From idiot CEOs to idiots in every level of govt and industry, we are collectivly idiots. I have to wonder if the introduction of lead into gasoline helped in this. Everywhere, from the lowest level of management-about 90% of all in management that I have ever seen are exactly like the boss in the Dilbert comic strip. In every level of govt that actually has decision making authority I have seen really stupid decisions being made. Officers in all branchs of the military at all grades seem to run about 80-20 idiot to competent. I can not figure it out, but I do know it is there. And we are raising even more stupid generations. 1 in 3 kids drop out of HS, adults, college grads in their 30s, can not answer the most simple questions about our govt and our country. The dumbing down of public education leads to the dumbing down of the country The future looks bleak. I can see a time when we can no longer even keep our current tech operating because we have no idea how to fix it. Just by looking at our current congress I can see that the ratio of dumb incompetent to competent is worse than I ever imagined. I voted for Obama because I thought that besides being smart I thought he was competent. Now I am no longer sure about his competence.
“The GOP needs one African American in the House Senate or as Gov just what were they thinking?”
They may just get one. And he may replace Jim Bunning as the stupidest Senator. His name is Michael Williams and he has a chance to win Hutchison’s seat. Especially if Gov. Perry hands it to him when Kay resigns. Last week, the Austin American-Statesman ran an op-ed he penned. Here is the money quote: “I oppose the president’s health care plan because it will explode the deficit, allow further government intrusion into the doctor-patient relationship and continue to insulate health care consumers from the true cost of their care.”
Those first two are standard Rep talking points. It is the third reason that boggles and should accelerate the Reps demise.
Back in Clenis era, the cable news shows regularly hosted a legion of blonde harpies who’d catch the vapors over the stained blue dress. Then, for diversity’s sake, they’d send in the black guy for a manly scold.
Larry Elder was the black guy.
as a California resident, and a dedicated voter, I have to ask:
who the fuck is Larry Elder ???
I never heard of him
and if he’s a repuglitard, I’d NEVER vote for him
tell me again how this clown had a chance to win …
The lack of self-knowledge in that one sentence is staggering, even for staggering things.
PS; I’m a bit more informed than the average voter, and I never heard of the guy
the dude might be popular in lala land, but he’s a nobody north of teh grapevine
in defense of redstate, nobody could predict how low the repuglitards can go
(wink)
Fantastico!
Dogontheroof backs Obama’s Copenhagen trip. More wingnut heads set to explode.
Meanwhile, Michael Steele doesn’t know what he thinks.

I’m scared — somebody at RS.org has a clue or two:
Hoo boy. That last bit needs to be spammed far and wide.
we may have Cornyn and Hutchison, but Oklahoma lays waste to us with Inhofe and Coburn, even Georgia can’t compete against that juggernaut
The wingnuts all over the country knew Sarah Palin before she was running for VP, too. There’s name recognition in the real world and name recognition in the alternate universe. I’m in SoCal and I haven’t heard of him, but I bet my dad knows all about him.
Larry who?
Bernie Madoff has name recognition, too. Why not run him?
I’m waiting for the day some token black wolverine Glibertarian Republican in a leadership role stands before a crowd of white racist Republicans holding up signs (they’ve already made) of Obama as a gorilla with a Hitler moustache.
Wouldn’t it just be sublime?
Neither side would see any contradiction. Republicans have amply demonstrated that they are incapable of cognitive dissonance.
I’ve been ‘following’ Mr. Elder for years, ever since he appeared on Maher’s “Politically Incorrect”. The only high-profile gigs I remember him getting are a cameo on “The Hughleys” and that dumb-ass “Moral Court” show.
Even if he were to run, his pick-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps arguments probably won’t impress many voters, since:
1. In an interview with Reason, he admits that affirmative action gave him a ‘boost’ to get into Brown U.
2. His dad worked two jobs to keep the family fed. As you can imagine, the lack of funds didn’t really allow him to attend private school, so he should thank public education for keeping him off the streets.
His lack of appreciation for how society was able to help him make something out of himself — esp. during his younger, more critically important years — is typical glibertarian revisionist history.

Being an Okie myself, cwolf, I think we win the Senate Dumbshit Sweepstakes hands down with Inhofe and Coburn.
When it comes to the intertoobz, I’m pretty much a marching moran myself:

Oh goody, they’re going to run Carly. Apparently she hasn’t fucked up a large organization in a couple of years and misses the experience. The only people in Silly Valley who won’t reflexively vomit at the sight of her are the ones who shorted HP stock during her Reign of Error. What she did to one of the greatest tech companies makes you want to strangle yourself with your own uvula.
Carly actually trashed two good companies: HP and Compaq. Back in the day, Compaq built excellent PC’s and its Proliant servers were some of the best. After HP’s acquisition of Compaq, Carly managed to combine the weaknesses of both companies while shredding their strengths.
There are mollusks who are better managers than Fiorina.
Aw, shit. I’d vote for Lee Elder in a heartbeat. He was real trailblazer and gave me and autograph when I was a wee lad. Nice guy.

Well, then, my wingnut sister in SoCal probably knows who he is. I’m sure not asking her, though, because it’s come down to us only being able to exchange recipes lest we get pissy with one another. Different planets don’t make for happy family relations.
Nowadays, judging someone as a bad CEO because he/she trashes companies is like saying Egill Skallagrímsson was bad at being a Viking because he wrecked monastaries.
OK, everybody agrees that Egill Skallagrímsson was great at wrecking monasteries. The real knock on him as a Viking is that he was only mediocre at pillaging, raping, burning and looking good in those horn helmets.
