No new pictures of the boys this week so I went back into the archives and while piddling around I decided that I could use a little Satchmo right about now. Of course that just re-opens up that big empty space in me that will probably never be filled.
What I do for art.

I miss the big guy. Every day.

I know how you feel. Though I never met Satchmo, you shared him with your readers for many years, and I will always get wistful whenever you put a shot of him up for TNBB.
I must say, though, that Beckam’s doing a great imitation of one of the characters in a MAD “Spy vs. Spy” cartoon…
Mr Bogg
You wouldn’t really feed Ms Veronique de Rufies to such fine upstanding hounds, now would you?
OK, not exactly upstanding, but doing the basset equivalent of upstanding.
What I would give to be able to administer an ear scritch…
TIP
Thanks, TBogg.
Because you so selflessly shared, for so long, we too miss him. Again, thank you. Spectacular pic of the regal Satchmo.
P.S.
Sorry about that whole “where’s the fucking dogs” thing on the last thread.
TBogg, we know it’s not the same as for you, with your close relationship, but you know your loyal readers miss Satchmo also.
What a lovely picture! It should be a fresco in a basilica somewhere: “St. Satchmo the Good generously gives most of the blanket to Beckham the Baleful.”
Hugs to the beloved Satchmo and all the Tboggs.
There will always be just one {{{Satchmo}}}. Bassett-love is forever and
the heart has always room for them all.
You give them what you can when they’re alive, and the only thing you can do for them when they’re gone is to remember.
There is a void that wont ever be filled without him… I miss him too Dad. Love you Big Dog
There can never be too many pictures of photogenic Satchmo.
He really was “the big guy” wasn’t he? An elder statesman in life, and now Saint Satchmo in the Great Beyond. (And no, the Pope had nothing to do with it because he’s a raging asshole.)
Satchmo was also a role model for Beckham. Now, some might say “what are you talking about, have you met Beckham?” and I would say, no I haven’t but just think of how Beckham might have turned out without his older brother to keep him on the straight and narrow. And now, Beckham can pass what he learned to Fenway (this will automatically qualify Beckham for sainthood one day, though that day is forbidden to come any time soon, but not by order of the Pope because he’s a raging asshole).
Yes, there can never be too many pictures of Satchmo. He was one of a kind.
Had I ever met Satchmo, I would have immediately slipped into Babydogtalk, and I would have called him a purty man. He must have been a real treasure and I empathize with you on his loss. Dogs (and cats) with that much personality can never be forgotten nor replaced. Thank you for reminding us what a great fellow he was.
Such a handsome boy; his warm heart shows in those eyes.
Perfect! “St. Satchmo, patron saint of blankies…”
Hugs and love to Teh Boys as well as to the Tbogg human family.
They really worm their way into our hearts, don’t they. My wife and I lost our 16 yo “little buddy” in May to heart failure. I remembered your posts about Satchmo’s passing and how you liked having his ashes nearby. I had my little buddy cremated and I have his ashes, next to his photo and collar, in my office at home. It makes me feel better having them there. We have two dogs now, both rescues, and I love them dearly, but I will always miss my little buddy. He was truly one of a kind, as was your Satchmo…
Now go hug Fenway and the Beckster…..
One of my favorite things about Satchmo was that the fur around his neck was so soft that we nicknamed him “The Velveteen Basset”. It made you just want to bury your face in his neck and stay there forever…..I miss that so much.
So nice to see a Satchmo pic. Thanks.
We miss him too Tom. Love to see old pics of the great Satchmo
Lovely pic. Satchmo was noble, indeed.
“The Velveteen Bassett.” I get that. My own solid black kitty named Pushy (for his kittenhood behavior) is often called Plushy because his fur is so…plushy. Love to nuzzle it on a bad day (or a good day!).
perfect, VonZeppelin
Dear Mr and Mrs Tbogg,
Love the blog, visit all the time, esp for basset blogging. Love those bassets, even tho they sometimes physically remind me of Senator Lieberman…
My wife and I know how you feel.. we lost two of our little friends in August, and the holes in our hearts are huge.. Our friends were cats, one was 15, and the other 13. It hurts.
The best to you, and keep doing the blog and the basset blogging.. Look for it every week..
Jack and Patricia..
I miss Satchmo too. Your descriptions of his personality always sounded like my departed and sadly missed Maui. I like to think of them together at the Bridge, being saintly.
