gross!
By the way, I will click on the “Vent the Defeatocrats” cheer anytime it is posted. It really never gets old.
I especially like the chicken clucking sound effects.
And we liberals are supposed to be the élitists. (But that’s only because we went to fancy-pants schools where they teach you to write “we liberals” instead of “us liberals”, and the proper spelling of words like “morans”. Also.
That’s what all the shithouse rats claim.
My, my, my. The corporate wing of the Republican party is striking back and attempting to wrest control of “their party” back from the mouthbreathers and troglodytes. I am a bit surprised they are using Douchehat to do it as I thought he was a slightly polished and almost grammatical talibangelical culture warrior. Bobo has always been their go to guy a the NYT before.
Of course, no slap at Palin and Huckabee would be complete without noting that Obama used his “celebrity” status to get elected, and that Palin drives liberals crazy, because she’s a gosh-darned genuwine American. One must be sure to throw in a false equivalency or two while one is attacking the would-be icons of one’s own bankrupt movement.
But yeah, I’m really looking forward to Republican Death Race 2012: Teabaggers vs. Mittzilla!!! I plan to stock up on popcorn.
Wouldn’t you love to eavesdrop on Mitt and his five boys + countless advisors attempting to plan how to combat Bible Spice? There must be some great conversations going on over there.
I’d love to hear what they really think of her.
Reminds me of an IQ test guestion.
Which one of these descriptions does not belong with the others?
A) Stupid Frigging Neocons
B) Intellectually Vigorous Conservative
C) Moronic Vicious Teabaggers
Rose, I’ve seen turgid and believe me, Rose, you’re not and never were. Anyway, this is what you should have written:
It’s possible to be a celebrity and a serious politician at the same time: Ronald Reagan’s career proves as much. But Reagan’s celebrity status was never a political liability, and he was (usually) wise enough to know it. That’s why he played the transparently phony grandfather CEO as often as he played the xenophobic America Firster.
He also called his wife Mommy. Is that what you call Abinormal?
Ungrateful little ED shitweed.
Signed,
Chunky Reese Witherspoon
Yeah BoBo was the go-to guy. But BoBo has proven utterly ineffectual in combating the rise of the Palinites.
Thirty years of courting the religious extremists; 30 years of discounting and denigrating education, expertise, and experience; 30 years of catering to know-nothingism and the Republican party is arriving at the natural destination: Its base comprised entirely of il-educated and pissed off mouth breathers. The base is too small to muster electoral wins outside of a small slice of the country, but it’s too big to be ignored. It’s too embarrassing to be attractive, and too vocal to hide.
No Shit.
Oh, and as for the “substantial political rewards”, any conservative “intellectual” who dared raise his hand to rain on John Boenher and Co’s parade would be immediately tromped to dust.
Come to think of it, actually no conservative comes to mind who could be considered an intellectual.
He really is an annoying little shit. I’d like to punch him in his Doustache.
Oh. Wolverines!!one11!!!!exclamationpoint11!!!
I need a cigarette now. Very nice.
Y’all keep reading Douthat so I don’t have to bother. Works for me.
That’s a lot like Latin or Aramaic, isn’t it? Dead language nobody speaks anymore except for academics?
Just imagine, in 10 years, my daughter will be able to take Conservative at college, and professors will talk about the archaic ways and the downfall and the aftermath.
My favorite Rossism:
You mean the payroll tax that St. Ronnie jacked up to pay for the pile of debt he built? Not gonna happen. One, payroll taxes are for little people. The wealthy corporatist behind the repub curtain could care less. Two, the current subliminal instructions that the teabaggers are acting on is Big Gubbmint Debt is Killing Us! Payroll tax cuts ain’t gonna help that. And besides, to change the rightwing newsspeak message would require deprogramming the entire lot of them and re-brainwashing. This would delay the ReFounding a decade.
Yep. I really do think that the corporatists are doomed here since they represent an even smaller slice of the party and nation (top 1-2% of the income scale) and it really is hard to get common folks motivated with, “Let’s make the rich folks even richer!”
Just further proof that John Stuart Mills was far too generous and optimistic toward conservatives.
How do we know that this isn’t some deep double secret alpha-Tango-four-zero operation to make us all think the republicans elite hate sarah palin so she must be good?
Hunh? Hunh?
Bet you did not think of that.
Except the people who elected Palin to a full term and actually expected her to see it out. But Angry Ewok won’t fault her for trying to cash in on her celebrity before the rubes realize that they’re not getting any sort of value for their money; like calls to like, after all.
Oh, SHIT! You mean to say stubbornestgeezer has been right all along?
Intellectually Vigorous Conservative: Finally, something for the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy to believe in.
Oh, know! A and C are real. B is imaginary.
This was one of Ross Douthat’s themes at his old blog at the Atlantic: that movement conservatives shouldn’t have contempt for conservative elites and put their money on someone like Palin because conservative elites do important work of translation or mediation or something. Here conservative elites are simply doing the work of thinking.
It’s fairly obvious to draw the conclusion that if the Republican Party isn’t paying attention to these people a Ross Perot type figure will come across who will. And that person could scare Obama far more than Palin can.
Douthat’s Catholic, but maybe “talibangelicals” can be Catholic too.
Hmm…you’re not from *around* here, are you? In my country, they’ve been using that strategy since about 1980. And it works. It fucking works.
It only works if you a) lie and tell the rubes they are getting the tax cuts and b) scare the bejeebus out of them by telling them that all the money from their taxes is going to those scary dark skinned people and atheists. Right now the lie to them and scare the bejeebus out of them factions are warring with each other and it is the latter which gets you voter turnout.
