Outside of returning for tomorrow night’s Thursday Night Christmas Eve Basset Blogging, I’m outta of here for the next few days due to familial contractual obligations. Off this afternoon (before it starts snowing, because it’s in the mid-sixties, y’all) to do some minor Kwanzaa shopping with the L&T Casey and the beauteous mrs TBogg, then late lunch and a movie that is not Avatar. This one.
Also, too. Before going, thank you to Donna of Santa Rosa for the Tudors DVD’s and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ wonderful book.

The absolute merriest Kwanzaa, Christmas, or whatever it is you and the rest of the Bogg’s celebrate. Gotta take a break from the snark or you’re going to snark out, with all of the ammunition you get from BOTH the right and left these days. The very best to all of the Boggs.
Glad to hear there will be Christmas Eve Basset Blogging or as liberal scoundrels would probably call it, Happy Houndays.
I am hoping for renditions of either The Night Before Christmas (in which not a creature is stirring, but then what else would be new) or A Christmas Carol in which Fenlander and Beckham are visited by Santa Satchmo (and possibly Santa Cooder) rattling chains and warning of dire consequences.
But will settle for a couple of snoozing hounds with maybe some holiday-themed red and green thrown in.
P.S. I’ve heard 3D Avatar is “amazing” from people who say the trailer doesn’t do it justice. So I’m a gonna check it out. Plus Sigourney Weaver is in it and I like her.
Way cool! A John Woo Wuxia. Now I am stoked! Have a happy whatever it is that you celebrate and I will celebrate the demonic ridicule machine.
I sincerely hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas, TBogg.
I may not be back here. Your boss just threw in with Jack Abramoff’s old money launderer, and whether or not you think that Rahm Emanuel should resign, be prosecuted, or be packed into a rocket and launched into the sun, that’s simply inexcusable.
I know the hipsters are all hating on Avatar because they haven’t forgiven Cameron for Titanic, and because it’s necessary to keep your cool cred by dismissing what’s popular with the hoi polloi, but it’s a fun popcorn movie, and the 3D is really immersive and beautiful.
My favorite recent film though is Up in the Air.
Merry Christmas to the TBoggers
Having a John Woo Christmas, eh? Well, I hope that you and yours have a good one. As to Red Cliff…it’s a beautiful film, and a must-see if you’re a Woo fan. I guess I couldn’t get past the rough treatment that Woo gave to history and literature to make it work. Still, there are worse ways to spend the Yule.
Hey let us know if Red Cliff features the ubiquitous flock of fluttering doves that Woo features in every goddamned movie he makes.
I’ll see Avatar when I’m back in LA. I’ve heard Red Cliff is good even in the U.S. cut version, but I was going to order the full-length version (out in February or March, IIRC). Anyway, happy holidays, all.
Happy Holidays to you and yours, TBogg. I’ll tiptoe in to get my Merry Eve fix of de Bassetts very quietly so’s
not to disturb.
I would like to see a few frames of them opening their presents by Saturday tho – kay?
And here I was thinking the Tboggs would be taking in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl tonight.
A Happy Holiday of choice to the entire clan, Tbogg.
For the love of Chuy, be careful out there – there may be black ice on some of the bridges! Make sure everybody gets the rawhide chewy thingy they want most of all, and a nice bottle of something old for yourself. Happy Christmas, TBoggs & TDoggs too!
Merry Christmas (or Happy Holidays, whatever) to you, Tboggs, and everyone else around here.
I’d wish Happy Festivus to the folks over at FDL since they’re all airing their grievances because the health care bill SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS, but I’m afraid my lifetime membership in the Progressive secret handshake club would be permanently revoked.
I’ll second that shout-out for “Up in the Air.” Clooney’s the new Cary Grant.
Having finally made it through my traditional trio of Christmas movies (“The Thin Man”, “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “Die Hard”, fyi), I’m looking for something to see in a theatre. Red Cliff isn’t playing anywhere out here in the
sticksburbs yet, so I may have to settle for Up in the Air. Suggestions welcome. And, of course Happy Christmas and Merry Holidays to all inhabitants of Casa TBogg and these environs. Dog bless us, every one.
Wow! Ok, I’m going to see Avatar tomorrow, but this film is next on my list for sure. I’m really glad to see that chinese mythology is becoming such a box-office draw, and that John Woo is still making films. Once Hollywood gets their teeth in it, it’ll be totally watered down, but for now we get badass films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and this awesome looking Red Cliff.
Thanx, TBogg! Merry Whatever Holiday Yer Celebrating!
Hey T-Bogg,
I hope you, the Mrs. T-Bogg and the L&TC have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
Is Santa bringing something special for Fenway and Beckham?
C’mon Tbogg I need to know! Doves or no doves? It will make a difference in whether or not I see this movie.
Yes, doves. Or specifically, a carrier pigeon. Great tracking shot.
Now go open your presents.
