I go out for the evening to see a little basketball and when I get back, all of the Democrats (Dorgan, Dodd, Ritter) are quitting to spend time with Mark Sanford’s family or something. To make matters worse, the sleaziest person to call himself a Democrat since Joe Lieberman left the party is thinking about jumping back in.
Honest to jeebus. Watching Harold Ford during his run against Corker I felt I was watching the smarmiest and most insincere politician ever to grace the political stage. I still feel that way.
And, yes, I’ve seen Sarah Palin give a speech.
If someone offered Ford a $100 for his vote, they’d own it. If the opposing side offered him $100.05, they could take his vote to the bank…unless the bidding moved to $100.10.
That is Harold Ford.

Harold Ford makes Michael Steele look like a black guy.
“Call me, Harold!”
I feel a little less Hopey-Changey every day.
Although the idea of Harold Ford running for the US Senate from NY, cracks me up.

Srsly. If Joe Lieberman decided he’d join the party again, Harry Reid would throw him a big party and welcome him back with open arms. The Democrats appear to have *no* standards or morals left whatsoever — yet, we’re supposed to continue to support them, because the alternative is somehow worse? At least the Republicans have principles that they violate — Obama’s blue boys can’t even manage that…
I’m sorry about both Dodd and Dorgan – because they were screwed by the National party. Both honest to Chuy Democrats, the party would do anything other than support them. There is zero sense in this.
hell, i didn’t even realize he’d moved to ny. harold ford is one of the smarmiest assholes this side of lanny davis.
Oh to see the day (and not live in the place) when the two least sincere politicians on the planet, Harold Ford and Willard “Mitt” Romney, find a state to move to and run against each other.
Those donors can rest assured that Harold Ford’s positions will be whatever they want them to be.
Harold Ford…the Gilbert Arenas of contemporary politics.
I just put $50 on Harold Ford winning that race in New York.
I also put $50 on the St. Louis Rams to win this year’s Super Bowl and $50 on David Duke to win the 2012 Presidential election.
Damn, I’m broke till payday. Can anyone lend me $150 bucks? I can’t lose!
For $101.00 he would suit-up and hand you the rope.
So, if Ford wins, progressives could conceivably raise enough money to buy his votes. Somehow that seems better than the current crop of Senators we have in Congress.
What makes you think we couldn’t buy the sorry bunch we have now? One huge problem seems to be that progressives largely refuse to acknowledge how the game is played these days. Instead, we dream out loud and help elect changey-hopeys like Obama who delude us by claiming they want to go back to “our” rulebook with accountability, limited lobbyist’s influence etc. I’m guessing our elected officials would listen better if we told them we’d made a large deposit in an account in the Cayman Islands in their name, instead of first voting for them and then telling them to “behave like real Democrats”. By today’s standards, they are doing just that — but Monsanto, Verizon, and Goldman Sachs are the only ones who get that ours is a pay-to-play world.
I’m really surprised by Ritter dropping out as I’ve had donation requests from him right up to the end of the year. Looking forward to hearing from him at his press conference today.
jnfr, I don’t get it either; I wonder what’s up*.
I’ve actually been pleased with senator Bennet and plan to volunteer for the guy. I’ve always been less warm about Ritter, but the rethug competition for the governorship and against Bennet is going to be CO. Springs/Focus on the Family wingnuttia on parade so it should be interesting.
*Other than not wanting to go through to public colonoscopy without anesthesia that is running for elected office, especially in a state where Dobson and his creepy ilk think they own the place, or that they can at least buy it while acting like a pack of Howler Monkeys.
Yeah, you really want a guy who voted for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage to run in the state where Stonewall happened. Christ, even Giuliani would be to the left of this guy on Teh Gay.
From teh Great State of New York – F*ck Harold Ford!
Harold Ford and his ilk are what destroyed the Dem. party.
In theory we already “buy” the votes of the pols when we vote for them and/or provide support to their campaigns. They’ve come to take our votes and our support as an entitlement for having a “D” after their name so when they get to D.C. they’re open for business to all of the playas there. I’m either voting third party or sitting out future elections until they start walking the walk. No yada-yada about how the other guys are worse: both sides are working for the same interests. It wasn’t the Republicans who gutted the health care bill, it was the Democrats. No yada-yada about working for change from within the party either. Unless you have a billion dollars or close to it then working for change from within the party is a protracted delusion.
I think that Junior pretty much pissed away any chance that he might have had of making a comeback in politics when he moved out of the South. His whole power base was heavily dependent on his family’s Memphis machine, and that’s more or less collapsed. His run for the Senate was nothing more than a me-too response to Obama winning his seat. If he runs in NY, expect the tabloids to have a field day reviewing the careers of his aunt, his uncle, and his dad.
When “carpetbagger” Hillary Rodham Clinton decided to run for the Senate in NY, she invested her time by meeting voters throughout the state, listening to their concerns, and at least making an effort to understand what’s on the minds of voters. That’s one of the reasons why she won in 2000.
Can anyone see Harold Ford putting in the time with the actual gruntwork of winning over voters? I’m sure he’d attend many fundraisers in the big cities, and have several photo-ops, but I don’t see him going to places like Utica, Jamestown or Watertown to drum up votes. He’s the ultimate DLCer – raise money by kissing corporate asses, use the money to buy lots of TV ads and flyers, and spend as little time as possible speaking directly to voters.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand would most likely stomp his ass in a primary run.
Also.
All Gillibrand has to do is constantly mention Ford’s employment at Merrill Lynch, and his Wall Street financiers. Think THAT will go over with the voters in 2010?
FAIL
Fuck Harold Ford.
Go Aztecs.
Wow, that’s quite the smorgasbord: political corruption, voter fraud, public drunkenness…
Hey, John Ford’s Wikipedia article barely scratches the surface. If someone wrote a strictly accurate and factual biography of John Ford, it would probably be filed under “fantasy” in libraries and bookstores.
