Joe Lieberman, who is America’s Most Important Senator, thinks there is a lesson to be learned because that awful-at-campaigning Massachusetts lady is (possibly/for sure) losing out to a man who is continually naked beneath his clothes which, we hear tell, gives Sally Quinn ladywood:
Eager to prove that the Democratic Party left him and not the other way around, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) urged his colleagues on Tuesday to move to the “center” following a humbling Senate race in Massachusetts.
“I think the message is from the voters of Massachusetts that people are anxious about the future and they’re unhappy about what’s happening in Washington,” said the Connecticut Independent Democrat, during an interview on Fox News. “They’re anxious about the economy, the continued high unemployment. They don’t like all the partisanship and deal-making here in Washington. And they’re really skeptical about the health care bill.”
“So this is going to be a loud message from Massachusetts and whether it’s right or wrong, I was impressed again by one of the national polls I saw yesterday that said two things; one is opposition to health care reform is very large among independents, unregistered with the party voters, and Massachusetts is thought of as a blue state and it generally does vote Democratic but almost 50% of the voters are unaffiliated so they’ve got the liberty to…”
And, it just so happens that Joe Lieberman is skeptical of the health care bill and all of that partisany deal making such and such stuff. So Joe Lieberman is just like America! Not that America is particularly happy about that.
And how is that working out for you Joe?
In a two-way race with second-term Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy, Lieberman trails Murphy by a 45%-26% margin. In a three-way race with Gov. Jodi Rell, who is retiring this year, Rell comes in first with 47%, with Murphy in a distant second at 25%, and Lieberman with 23%.
Two weeks ago, a survey from Public Policy Polling (D) found that Lieberman had alienated every partisan group in the state — Democrats, Republicans and independents — by both weakening progressive efforts on the health care bill but ultimately voting for the Senate bill itself.
For those keeping score at home, Joe Lieberman is in third first place.
Joementum!

Could Joe Fucking Lieberman just do the rest of us a favor and fucking die already? Die! Die!! Die!!! You god-damned dick bag who should die of a fucking plague, a very painful fucking plague. Goddamnd douchebag mother fucker.
Something else Joementum and Brown have in common is that neither will ever be re-elected to the Senate after today.
Hey, we can always hope that Rahm Emanuel and Obama’s crack squad of political strategists will offer to manage Joe’s re-election campaign for him. In less than a year these wizards have managed to gamble away everything they were given in the way of mandate + majority — I have no doubt they could somehow find a way to fuck up Joe’s already dismal numbers even more. The saddest part would be to watch them stand around in the aftermath gloating about how well they did under the circumstances and how it all went just according to their plan.
Seriously… the Democratic Party is like the Fail Club of politics.
Democrats should just have a “Cock-punch Joe Lieberman! $5.00!” fund-raiser and put a billion in the bank for the fall elections.
Tbogg, I think you’ll find that’s “a three-way tie for first”.
Yep.
If the Democratic Party can learn anything from Massachusetts, it’s that compromising your principles to please Republicans is a no win proposition.
…AND we could put up a one-way glass wall, throw a hoity-toity dinner party, and charge the mucky-mucks in Big Pharma, Banking and Insurance $10,000 per plate to watch, and pay off a hefty chunk of the debt we’re in.
I keep forgetting: Is “Independent Democrat” a euphemism for a “blow job” or a “rim job”?
Maybe any Democrat trying to follow in EMK’s footsteps would have suffered the same fate. Dunno. Coleman beat Mondale, after all.
I voted for Capuano in the primary because I thought he had a little more fire. I think he would have campaigned better than Coakley, but that’s hindsight. Wouldn’t be surprised if he runs again next cycle and uses his backroom brawling prowess as a wedge. I don’t think Massachusetts wants eight years of Brown.
But again, I thought the Chargers would beat the Jets, so what the hell do I know?
So is Harry Reid now working with Obama and Pelosi to pass health care reform through the budget reconciliation process?
Ha! I’m just kidding! That could NEVER happen with the Democrats holding only a 59 seat majority in the Senate. One special election now equals a national mandate, unless a Democrat wins a special election in a seat the GOP has held for nearly 150 years.
President Obama’s Politics 101: How to Create a Permanent Democratic Majority.
1. Win a Presidential Election, gain huge majorities in both houses, and then have Republicans defect to your side to give you majorities of historic proportions.
2. This comes the clever part. Instead of implementing a Democratic agenda, implement a conservative agenda! That’s right! Nominate Republicans to your cabinet. Announce you’ll be seeking their good ideas on policy. Give up on liberal policies at the outset of debates, as a gesture of goodwill. Use the levers of government to wheelbarrow cash to Big Banks, Big Pharma, and Big Military. Continue the policies of the previous administration for as long as possible, and stall any embarrassing investigations into things such as “Dr Cheney’s 188-step Terrorist-Confession Encouragement Program”, which never existed anyway.
Advantages: Conservatives will be very impressed indeed. Oh sure, a few conservatives might choose to run against your huge bailouts to the ultra-rich in a time of record unemployment, in a capricious excess of faux-populism. And, yes, some voters here or ther may still opt for for right-wing nude model conspiracy theorist candidates, every so often, especially if they drive impressive manly pick-up trucks. But hey, we can’t win everybody, right?
And the liberals? Hey, who are they gonna vote for? That’s 50% of the electorate right there who are going to vote Democratic every time no matter what. All you need is one conservative to vote for the black guy, and it’s permanent majority time.
Any questions? No? OK then, class dismissed!
Apparently they just stayed home today. Gee, I wonder where all that fire and dedication went. Perhaps I’ll read the rest of your post again and see if I can find an answer to that question…
Dear Caepan,
The Villagers called and want to know WTF you’re talking about.
With friends like fleas…
Hasn’t anyone figured out yet the majority of the electorate is a bunch of morans? They will follow the prettiest face and the loudest voice no matter how moronic the candidate.
That’s an easy cop out – Coakley lost cause the economy is in the shitter and nobody in power seems to be doing anything about it and until a week ago she acted like the general election was an inconvenience. Not a recipe for continued incumbency.
THIS is what Obama and the other Congressional Dems HAD to negotiate with.
The deal-making wouldn’t have been necessary without Lieberman and the Blue Dog Dems. Clearly, according to his own logic, he IS the problem. And the poll numbers in Conn. show the people get it.
How long is it until we can get rid of those deal-makers?
BTW, speaking of deal-makers… did stockholders make out like bandits yesterday evening with a profit-taking sell-off and buy-back today after the early drop? If you can buy back the same stocks at lower prices then it’s like free money in your pockets.
Kinda like homeowners whose mortgage holders split off the debt from the deed and let them go bankrupt to walk away from the debt part. Free money.
Free money…if you get to buy and sell at other than day end prices. Not in that 0.001%? Sorry.
