Okay. So there’s this basset puppy that we fell in love with over teh intertubes but he’s in Pennsylvania, okay? And then there are these other puppies who are only about two hours away and they are absolutely gorgeous, but we kept going back to Pennsylvania puppy and, as the saying goes: the heart wants what the heart wants. Of course the person who said that was Woody Allen when he left Mia Farrow for her adopted daughter, so ew, never mind that; we just wanted the damn puppy. So very early this morning mrs tbogg boarded a plane bound for Dulles and then connecting to State College, PA, home of Penn State University and the Fighting Bérubé’s (Professor Dr. Bérubé informs me there are restaurants in State College, so – better than Branson!).
The plan was to get into State College, pick up the lil nipper, and haul butt back to San Diego arriving Saturday evening to a crowd of people holding up signs saying “Welcome (name to be revealed later)!”. But you know what happened?
Snowpocalypse 2010: The Blizzarding.
The mid-Atlantic region will be punished by an all-out snowstorm beginning Friday afternoon. At least a foot of snow will fall from northern Virginia to southern New Jersey disrupting all forms of transportation. Be prepared for major travel delays, and airports such as Dulles and Baltimore-Washington International may have to shut down operations for a time. The storm will taper off through the mid-Atlantic Saturday afternoon.
That’s what happened. And now mrs tbogg has been informed that all flights have been canceled and she will be stuck in State College, PA until MONDAY!, which is, like, next week.
That means there won’t be any Very Special Super Bowl Sunday Basset Blogging As An Alternative To Pam Tebow Telling Us She Didn’t Kill Baby Jesus Who May Go In The Fourth Round To Jacksonville, Probably. This also means that mrs tbogg will be living on mini-bar food, I’ll be living on edamame and Popsicles, and Fenway is not coming out until his mom gets home. With a puppy. For him to eat.
The end.
Except for the relevant picture.

Also. Also.
I have a picture of the puppy but I’m not going to share until he has been acquired and all four paws are on the ground in San Diego because nothing is a sure thing as this weekend seems to be making clear.

Does this mean there will be a special edition Monday Night Basset Blogging?
Damn well had better be!!
The delay will give Mrs. TBogg and the puppy time to become BBBBFFs (Bogg Basset Best Bonded Friends Forever), which will mean you’re SOL when that pup gets home. You realize this don’t you?
Of course, Fenway can be yours. For a price. Bwahahahaha.
could be worse, she could be in Philadelphia
Ooh, yeah…Monday Night Basset Blogging! I vote for that!
And the above is now my favorite Fenway picture, evah. Like, totally killer cute. He outdid himself on this one!
Just watched “Best of Show,” again, and was disappointed that there were no bassets in it.
Last night there was a rerun of CSINY, set at a dog show. When the show continued (after the requisite murder was cleaned up), guess who won BIS?
Yup – The BASSETT HOUND!
Of course, you know who I thought of, although this one didn’t look much like your guys – light spots, not dark. And I have now come to think of the breed simply as “bassetts,” but the show judge pronounced the full name.
Oh great. You and the Fenway batching it. Just be sure to pick up your socks/taco bell wrappers before the lovely Mrs.TBogg hits that front door!
See you for Monday Night Bassett Blogging Extra!!!
TBogg, I feel for the lovely Mrs. TBogg. She’s experiencing much what I did a week before Christmas, when I flew into BWI just ahead of that 2-ft snowstorm. Made it to my mom’s through lightly falling snow, then was trapped in her apartment for the next 2 days, as it kept falling faster than it could be cleared away.
Can’t believe they’re already cancellinng flights, though. I thought the storm didn’t start till sometime tomorrow?
(Although the Weather Channel says our wussy Congress closed shop at 3:30 this pm so they could all get home before the storm. I know Mrs. TBogg has more b—s than they do.)
Just proves it’s fiction–Bassets never win in dog shows in actual life. Judges are irrationally prejudiced in favor of silly fluff dogs like poodles and terriers.
Let me add my voice to the grassroots (the real kind, not Astroturf) chorus for Monday Night Basset Blogging, featuring the cold and tired but lovely Mrs. TBogg, the Incredibly Cute Puppy to Be Named Later, and the either jealous or welcoming Fenway, depending on whether he takes Beckham or Satchmo to be his role model.
The worst of the storm is supposed to go south of here. So Mrs. Tbogg should be able to get around State College without much trouble whilst she is trapped here.
If she’s looking for a place to hangout while biding her time I’d suggest either Webster’s Used Bookstore and Cafe (100 Block S. Allen St.), which boasts a left leaning academic crowd and free-trade coffee, or the Cheese Shop (200 block of E. Calder Way), which roasts its own beans. There are plenty of Starbucks too, if that’s more to her taste.
Anyway, I hope she enjoys her stay here in Pennsyltucky.
I particularly like Fenway’s freckled nose in the photo.
Here’s to Fenway and the TBoggs and the new pup!
now there’s a surfeit of cute! all of Tokyo awaits Imminent Basset Blogging!
GOOD LUCK, MRS. TBOGG!
I fully expect this story to be optioned as a movie of the week, or at least an ABC After School Special.
Fetch Me If You Can: A San Diegan, A Basset, and the Snowstorm of the Century
YAY!!!…..spins around several times…..puppehs!!!
Can’t wait to see the new one.
Flights cancelled? Can Mrs. TBogg take the train?
You get the Pennsylvania basset ’bout a quarter to four
Read a magazine and then you’re in Baltimore
Dinner in the diner
Nothing could be finer
Than to have your ham an’ eggs in Carolina
Is it Monday yet?
Have you thought about the carbon footprint you’ll leave traveling to State College?
But, but…. Does Mrs. TBogg HAZ teh puppeh or not? Iz teh puppeh still in hiz Mother’s house or has s/he been transferred to Mrs. TBogg’s custody? WHO HAZ TEH PUPPEH????
Assuming you are telling the truth about Fenway being all social and wanting another puppy, this photo has enough cute in it to make me wonder if you need another puppy. But…then again…more cute!!! Go Mrs. TBogg!
She has to hurry before Fenway gets used to being an only dog.
I can empathize completely with the stranded Mrs Tbogg, as I share her pain. I’m going to be alone in a Beltway Hotel, far from my own sweetie in the wilds of Oregon.
Be comforted that she will at least have a puppy to keep her company while she waits for the snow to be cleared.
State College, PA is a very charming place. If I were a film director who was scouting locations for the prototypical college campus, I would go to there.
Plus, it’s the home of the Fred Waring singers and his subsequent blender invention.
Name suggestion: Nittany.
Dramatic chipmunk needs to be replaced with dramatic demonsheep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQYt_KJTlxE
Don’t leave Mrs. TBogg alone with that Berube character!
Mazel Tov Casa TBogg !!!
wook at poor widdle Fenway, you should probably reconsider that whole wander around the house nude while alone thing
and didn’t a basset hound win some national competition within the last few years, could’ve sworn TBogg highlighted it at the time
also. lose that tired Chipmunk
Wow, what timing. The forecast is up to three inches an hour. My nephew just graduated from Penn State. I recommend Zola’s restaurant and the Berkey Creamery. (Ice cream during a snow storm? Yes, in State College!)
We’re supposed to get two feet here in Maryland, where a lot of snow wimps live. For some reason, people panic and buy up all the toilet paper in the area. True. DC is even worse.
It’s snowing pretty hard now in D.C. At least the lovely Mrs. Tbogg will have bassetty company all weekend…
How ’bout Paterno? or even JoePa?
Congrats on the good stuff. Bummer about the bad stuff.
THIS is why we need a transnation bullet train!
Monday! Monday! MONDAY!
Being away for the whole weekend really bites. Bummer!
Don’t name that baby after them mountain lions! (says a Coach Bryant-era Bama fan)
Since Mrs. TBogg is staying over, maybe she can bring home two puppies. Or three? No, make that four. Three’s never a good number.
Somehow, putting a Basset on a bullet train strikes me as the sort of thing that would threaten the integrity of the space-time continuum.
Oh, and T, things will never be the same in the Bogg household again after Mrs. T gets her twelve inches of global warming while she’s back east this weekend.
That picture of Fenway is the sweetest thing ever. He truly needs a new puppy to make him feel better. I look forward to seeing pix of the new family member and wish all good things for the Tbogg family. Smiles all around.
Name the baby Blizzard! I’m sure by the time MrsTBogg gets home she will have some choice names to choose from based on her experience!
What is Fenway’s full name again? Something like “goddamnyoulittle whatthefuh_isthatpeeordrool_fenway_youlittlesonofabitch”
That cracks me up.
The weekend is looming, and if you don’t have a puppy it’ll be empty and desolate. There are puppies within a couple hours away, and you’re letting snow stop you? What, did you move into a smaller house so that it can’t accommodate Fenway, a local puppy, and then the Pennsylvania puppy when the snow clears?
Think about the local puppy. I know you want it. You know you want it.
There is a tide in the affairs of men,
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.
Omitted, all the voyage of their lives
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
What with the storm and all, I still have time to get my vaccine for “puppy fever.” I hear it comes on fast and there’s simply no cure. Mrs. TBogg’s gonna get a bad case, and it’s likely to infect the casa TBogg, and Fenway’s gonna be a total hero as teh puppeh will bring out all the best in all of you all, what with your immunities weakened by the loss of dear not-old-enough Beckham. Love is in the air!

just sayin’
btw- if “puppy” is a girl, you might consider “Nittany”, after the Indian Princess for whom the mountain and the valley are named.
I can’t wait to see the pictures. Safe home Mrs. TBOGG and PuppyBogg
Ahh yes, my fave Thursday quote. The hounds, release them! And by that I mean that Tbogg the selfish bastard should bring with the pic of the pup!
C’mon man, we’re dying here! Although to be completely honest, that’s a great pic of Fenway. Sad eyes and all.
Best Fenway picture EVAH!!1!
Well, it’s Friday night, the snow is accumulating. I can’t help wondering whether the lovely Mrs. TBogg has picked up the Pennsylvania puppy and is hunkering down at one of the recommended cafes, with the Berubes, or in a warm but lonely hotel room.
Biggest question I’m thinking of: will a young pup who’s never left the kennel (?) be able to crash thru the snow to do his business?
such suspense. Can’t wait til Monday!
Update…I am a Southern California native…snow sucks!!! Actually, I take that back…20 degrees and snow down the back of your jacket sucks. The Puppy to be Named Later is still at the farm with beautiful mom Maureen and litter mates. He is gorgeous and wonderful and charming and cuddly and sweet and….but, as I am stuck here until Monday, he is best remaining in the lovely warm kennel with the rest of the pack. I have NEVER seen so many beautiful bassets together in one place. It is truly basset heaven for those of us who love the breed and I will be visiting as much as weather permits. State College, PA is lovely and quaint and what I have always envisioned as a “college town”. The scenery is beautiful and the people are very nice and I would love to visit when it not below freezing.
With all of the hullabaloo about the newbie, I want to make sure we all don’t forget to remember Beckham. He was my baby and I miss him dearly every day. Sleep well my sweet boy. Thank you for making room for a new love as the others did for you.
I second the Creamery. It’s one of the few places where the vanilla ice cream is truly outstanding.
