Mrs tbogg called me fromĀ the basset hatchery farm this morning at 6:30 to tell me that she had The Basset To Be Announced Later sitting in her lap and that he was beautiful and sweet. After initial introductions she put him her lap and he reached his head up under her chin and rubbed his face against hers.
We will pause briefly for a “awwwww.”
Because other people needed to use the Meet ‘n Greet room to see their puppy, she took him outside where he followed her until she turned around, then he plopped his butt on the ground, looked up at her and said “woof”.
Okay, let’s get the “awwwww” over with. I’ll wait.
Anyway, TBTBAL is big and, based upon the size of his mom, we may be looking at an 80-pounder with “pancake paws” which is mrs tbogg-speak for big floppy fun-to-play-with feet. For those who have asked, he is coming from the wonderful people at Tait’s Bassets in Centre Hall, Pa. and if you peruse their site you will see that mrs tbgg has been walking in a winter bassetland. My favorite picture is the one below, if only for the rare Boneless Basset seen on the left.

Now we wait for the weather to clear. Mrs tbogg, who has only been in the snow probably three times in her life, has been sending me a steady stream of “snow on my car”… “me in my Ugg boots standing in snow”… “snow on Outback Steakhouse roof”… “my footprints in the snow” text pictures so, you know, apparently there is snow there.
In the meantime, and through the weekend, we will review the basset puppies of TBogg Past starting with Cooder below in possibly the only picture taken of him as a puppy, making it like the the Shroud of Turin or something.

AAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
We got sucked in by the ears from the very beginning…over 20 years ago. Cooder was meant to be my dog…never happened…he was Tbogg’s from day one and I was simply tolerated. As was the L&T Casey when she arrived two years later. The other great picture of Cooder is almost identical to this one but he is covered in red and green Christmas ribbon. He was a great dog and the beginning of our love affair with the breed. I will be forever grateful to him and his loving and sweet spirit. It lives on in all our dogs.
SandiaBlanca stole my line!
so
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
You do realize you will have to import some snow for birthday parties at least for TBTBAL. He’ll be expecting it. and the Bounce House.
Dammit..need something original for “Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!”.
Nothing yet. But I am in a state of..”Awww…”. (sorry.)
I get to come here, love Bassets vicariously without the poop. Very cool.
Love the Cooder picture. These little guys must have ear stylists and cuteness consultants because they are awesome.
Oh my, those Cooder ears! A little hint of Fenway in the coloring too.
Enjoy your bonding time MrsTBogg, even with or despite of the snow you have to put up with. Maybe Beckham sent the delay so that the new pup can bond to you first and be YOUR dog!
Adorable. So glad you are getting Fenway a new brother & can’t wait for the pics. Enjoy the snow, Mrs. Tbogg, my pups had a great time in our Nashville snow last week & it would be nice to get some more. All your pups have been boys, why no girl Bassets?
Wow, after looking at that breeder’s website, I wish *I* had been born there! Clearly a great place to be a basset.
I hope your pup is as cute as #471-5.
I’m tearing up here, gah I’m such a sucker for a sweet face. Can’t wait to meet the new baby.
OMG! I just found this on the breeder’s website:
“Bassets love to see what you are doing so we built insulated houses with ramps to get to the top, like a rooftop deck…”
they TEACH them to climb out on your roof!!!!! Quick, call a carpenter and get that roof access closed off BEFORE Mrs. Tbogg and to-be-named baby bassett get home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
kaaawwaaaaiiiiiiii!!!!!
(ahem. that’s how they say it here).
thank you for the loving retrospective, and can’t wait till the new arrival arrives!
(perhaps the video camera can record the meeting of the two princes…?)
I will confess to a certain amount of Basset envy, but we have rules about the acquisition of dogs in our house – we take strictly pound puppies, so we take what we can get. So far, this has worked out very well.
Best of luck once Fenway takes the new guy under his, erm, wing…
If we’re talkin’ lineage, Cooder must be the Grand Poobah of Bogg Basset Ancestry, followed by Satchmo who, somewhere along the line, became Saint Satchmo by virtue of his very very cute face and heart of gold. Beckham, by virtue of his fierceness (in Tyra terms), was the black sheep son who got away with…well, whatever it is bassets can get away with, given their limitations. Nothing one can’t be persuaded by puppy dog eyes to forgive. Until the unprecedented hellion known as Fenway came along, discovered the roof and all hell broke loose.
It will be exciting to get to know the little guy who has already attached himself to Mrs. TBogg. (No surprise there. It will be surprising if all the bassets don’t follow her to the airport and insist on boarding.)
Is your new little guy one of the black splotched babies? Because they are darling. Talk about a Thurber carnival on that ramp thingy.
Can’t wait to meet the new member of the family and learn his sports name.
P.S. Get the video machine working! We wanna hear the woof.
Having looked at the “available puppies”, if mom and dad are Laurel and Mercer, your new son could be a juvenile delinquent. Just sayin’…
Plus, oh my God, people!
My god, it’s full of bassets.
Boneless Basset- do they taste anything like bald eagle? They seem like awfully sweet dogs. And I hope Fenway is adjusting.
In the DC area, this is the second worst, or perhaps worst, snowstorm/blizzard in history. [Started snowing yesterday @ noon; not predicted to stop 'til Sat. night.]
Don’t know how much of this has reached Philly, but we’re likely to be snowed in for quite a while.
I hope Ms. Tbogg has an extended hotel reservation.
Loving the 473 batch, esp. -4 and -7. Sooo cute.
471-5 is the one I thought to be TBasset instantly. Coincidence? Think not.

If Mrs TBogg would like to experience the joys of shoveling 150′ of driveway, she is welcome to mush her way south to Leesburg VA to give a hand. I’ve got an extra shovel. Oh, and bring along the “TPuppy to be Named Later”. The cat is always looking for a new sparring partner.
I KNEW it waz Tait’s, I KNEW I KNEW.
Ahem.
I’ll take the Boneless Basset along with one of those drapey katz u see every so often. Easier to decorate around.
What’s that? Taitz’s Bassets? As in “Taitz’s Basset, Realty, Dental and Legal Services? We serve all your conspiracy and cuteness needs?” That Taitz? And btw, have you seen their birth certificates?
Oh, Tait’s Bassets.
Well, never mind then. It’s early and I need my coffee.
Welcome to the family, unnamed one.
As long as Madame TBogg has made this long trip under these difficult conditions, maybe she should bring home five or six. Save on travel later.
An eighty pound Basset breaks down how, roughly–twenty pounds of dog to sixty pounds of drool?
I am in love with Boneless Basset.
Thank you for sharing puppeh pictures–I will keep checking for more pupdates. And we have a boneless cat. Also.
Bassets have “beautiful and sweet” in their DNA I think. 3 of the Bassets in the pic looks almost completely black and white except for a bit of brown in the ears. You don’t see too many of those.
Anxious to see what color TBTBAL is.
My semi-greyhound Max is not boneless. However, his spinal column is made of a highly flexible spring, so he can comfortably rest his chin on his hip while he sleeps.
We do Ridgebacks here at Chez Wonderful. So perhaps the following question “reads” as cruel and hurtful. But:
Can’t you, like, mount solar panels on their ears? And exploit their broad expanse? You probably get gummint money to do it, which you can then mis-appropriate.
Apparently you never saw the Great “X-15 Cruise Basselope”…
AAAAAAaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww. Heart overflowing from cuteness.
That no. 1 pic….
Thanks for the update, TBogg and Mrs. TBogg. so glad your chosen puppy is choosing you, too.
Betcha this one will be Mrs. TBogg’s pup.
Awwwwwwwwwww…the dog sounds perfect!! On the other hand, I’m sure Mrs. Tbogg is finding that snow gets old fast…
4 has some Beckham evil eyeball going on. He is darned cute.
Btw, if we’re talkin’ an 80 pounder, this could be Mrs. TBogg’s future. I hope she’s got a good chiropractor.
and pseudo for the win!!!
Iz teh Puppeh here yet?
Awwwwww.
I, too, am voting for an Extra Edition Basset Blogging when TBTBAL comes home with Mrs. TBogg.
Here’s hoping he’s not subject to motion sickness.
!!wwwwwwwwwwwwwwA
Ah, Cooder…
Now that there is a new thread upstairs, I will post this sweet, funny, and sad remembrance of the beloved Cooder from a 2005 TBogg post on his old blogspot site, in remembrance of my Mom who passed a couple weeks ago.
Love for all critters – whether it be our indivual beloved flesh-and-blood, our own wondrous and infuriating bipedal species, or those living beings dear to us that spend most of their time on land, under water, or in the trees and sky above us – is all good.
RIP, Mama.
That was a beautiful piece. Reading about Cooder’s climbing escapades reminds me of the time I came home from work to find the table cloth all cattywampus, the lid off the candy dish, and all the Hershey’s kisses (every last one of them) GONE. My little Rags (all 11 pounds of him) managed to make his way onto a chair, and from there to the table top, uncovered the candy dish, and ate all the Hershey’s kisses, foil, flags, and all. Did I mention he was blind? I will never know how he managed it.
He should have died from the amount of chocolate he ate. Fortunately, he threw up before it could do him real harm. Couldn’t say the same for the cream colored carpet, but my little man was ok, and that was all that mattered.
Good luck with your new little guy. I can’t wait to see his pictures.
Only those who have built up 99.9% positive karma in previous lives get to work at a Basset hatchery. It is the final earthly life before you enter Nirvana.
