Because Wembley is growing like a weed, I didn’t think it was fair to only post pictures on TNBB because, next thing you know, he’ll be all grow’d up and gone away to college playing beer pong getting an education. So for the duration (until he enters his gawky teenaged Goth stage where he hates everyone and thinks he’s the only one to discover The Sisters of Mercy) we will have Sunday Night Basset Puppy Blogging. Also, this will make up for Ross Douthat’s picture on Sunday nights.
Wembley fell asleep in mid-chew.

Is an unraveling chew toy a good anti-snoring device? Probably not.
That’s a cute puppy. His paws look bigger than his head!
Yes, more puppy snaps is exactly what the world needs. What a cutie pie.
A thousand thank yous.
Jeebus Christos, that dog looks likes he just crashed after a 3-day Oxy binge.
Are you and Rush Limbaugh sharing the same vetrinarian or something?
Also, this will make up for Ross Douthat’s picture on Sunday nights.
Who told you that? Your information is wrong — nothing makes up for Douche Hat’s picture.
But thank you for the bonus cool shot of sweet little Wembley. He is a tonic.
Still not sure you have him assembled properly, that could be causing the narcolepsy.
“Chewin’ stuff is hard work.” — George W. Basset
Tait’s should use that in their testimonials.
How is Fenway?
A GIANT BASSET PUPPY IS TAKING OVER MY SCREEN! Oh, relief, it’s just a close up of Wembley.
My God, let’s just call that pancake with claws holding the
tug toyspoils, Pawl Bunyan! Those is large feet is what I’m sayin’.Sunday Night Basset Puppy Blogging. How delightful. I’m in. And if he starts growing faster than expected, every night would also be fine.
Clearly smarter than Douchehat, too. But, then, that pretty much goes without saying.
THAT PUPPY IZ VERY VERY VERY BIG.
Also.
Also – hiz eyes iz NOT CLOSED…. U are being watched Mr. TBogg.
I love this plan and I’m proud to be a part of it. If Wembley isn’t one of the cutest pups on the planet, you can smack my ass and call me Nancy.
LOOK AT THE MITS ON THAT BAD BOY!
How is Fenway doing? Hope he’s feeling better.
I volunteer at the Prince William County (Virginia) shelter and take pics of the new adoptable animals on Sunday for posting on Petfinder. On the off chance that someone in the DC metro area (or elsewhere) is interested, there is a female Basset named Josie who I just listed last night. This is the first Basset I’ve seen come through the shelter in the several years I’ve been volunteering there. She’s very sweet, and by her expression she apparently is wondering if she left the iron on at home.
You can see Josie by going to the PWSPCA website (http://www.pwspca.org), then clicking on the “Adoption” link at the top of the page, and then clicking on the link for the pets at the Prince William County shelter (not the Manassas City shelter).
Sure would like to find this sweet girl a home. I’m just sayin’.
Yay! Twice a week!
Are you sure you didn’t bring the boneless Bassett home? Or maybe you need a little plumber’s goo to keep the front end screwed into the back end tightly.
Awaiting Fenway’s blood test results today. If you haven’t had a heavy metals tox screen done – do it. Dog toys from China have been found to have cadmium, lead and other icky stuff in them.
Josie is very beautiful. I hope someone adopts her.
Thanks so much for that link, Lesley. I haven’t a clue how to do that properly.
Josie really is a nice girl. The clock’s ticking already at the shelter, and I’m so hoping she’ll find a forever home.
Sorry for the delay on the update about Fenway. He is pretty much back to his old self…just a little needy. Test results show lots of things he doesn’t have, but nothing he does. As to dog toys and chews, we got rid of everything after we lost Beckham and were always really careful with the rawhide chews, making sure they were Made in the USA. We have racked our brains and just can’t come up with anything that makes any sense…I don’t suppose it ever will even if we find out what happened. Beckham was just too young and we miss him terribly. Thank you for your concern…Wembley is truly the best medicine for Fenway…and for us.
ITYM “holding a beer for one of his of-legal-age dog friends”.
Ah, the slippery slope. Before you know it, there will be Tuesday Mid-Afternoon Preprandial Basset Blogging. And you will hear no complaints from these quarters.
Thanks for the Fenway update, Mrs. T. May he grace your abode (and these pages) for many, many years to come.
Remember, legal drinking age for dogs is 3 human years…so he won’t have to be “holding” for long…
That is the cutest damn dog!!! Love the videos; keep ‘em coming. It’s so cute to see them playing together.
My husband and I are recent TNBB fans and are totally hooked.
Glad Fenway is better. Have you checked your yard for old chewies? Poisonous plants/berries? Must be driving you crazy trying to figure it out.
Glad to know that Fenway is OK. Fingers crossed that whatever it was is gone for good.
Wembley is too damn cute for his own good. And, considering I just had to look at Douthat’s creepy stare, Wembley is a tonic, indeed.
Thanks much for the update.
Oh, and you know you could make a career out of this basset blogging thing.
Yeah, pic of Wembley a bit of an upgrade over Ross “she looked like Reese Witherspoon only slightly bigger and was ‘mandibilizing’ on my cheek and kissing my neck and since I was in college and drunk and single and a guy it was totally grossing me out” Douthat.
Guess you covered that Douth column where he said it was journalist’s responsibility to pry into the private lives of politicians, “for the common good,” but only sometimes.
Douthat is also the guy who wrote a column a few months ago arguing that the Pope had declared war on Islam (not exactly accurate) or at least that Islam was the biggest threat to Christianity (not exactly accurate)and that he thought this was a big thing, and in essence made sure to declare it himself. Hopefully the world doesn’t have too many Douthat’s, so that people can have their personal religious views and coexist.
He’s moderate in some ways, but a bit of a creepy authoritarian in many others. I guess that’s what the NYT’s calls “balance.”
Fantastic idea for Sunday Bassett Blogging–well done again, TBogg. And very glad that Fenway is feeling better and that Wembley is getting his beauty sleep. He is highly beautiful, after all.
I found this article on chew toys on Caesar Milan’s web site.
The elephant sanctuary in Tennessee uses these same type of toys and the elephants love them and can’t break them, so a basset would probably find them useable for years.
Here’s an example of one for puppies.
I’m glad to hear Fenway’s feeling better, and hope to see him in more videos being a tease to his younger brother (who reminds me a lot of Beckham, especially his pouty profile).
Anytime you see a basset contact Basset Rescue of Old Dominion (BROOD) They cover Virginia,DC,Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware…I got my rescue basset from them. They are very short on fosters and money now, but they will do what they can to help. Call 1-866-710-9476 and extension 5 is for shelters. You can also go to their website and click on “who do I call?”….I would help, but I don’t have space for another…..:(
Thanks for the info! We have used Kong brand toys for years which are similar to the ones you linked. Great for chewing and treat delivery… the only challenge is the hard rubber taste that not all the dogs love. I truly believe we have tried every chew toy designed by mankind because bassets will chew…and chew…and chew on everything if not properly diverted
CatStaff: Kifaru1 above is absolutely right…the local basset rescue will be of great help in finding Josie a forever home. She reminds me so much of Fenway with her lean, muscular body type. Great for long walks and snuggles on cold snowy nights. PLEASE keep us updated on her status!!!
Mrs. TBogg, there is only one thing left to do. Purchase TBogg an expensive pair of Italian leather shoes! Wembley is sure to make short work of them. :)
I just thought of the perfect nickname for Wembley.
Kifaru –
Thank you so much for the info on the Basset rescue here. I’ll get in touch with them right away and see if we can get Josie sprung from the shelter and into a foster situation somewhere. I really appreciate your help.
MrsTBogg —
She reminded me of Fenway, too, although she’s not as leggy as he is. Keep your fingers crossed that we can do something good for her.
“…We have used Kong brand toys for years which are similar to the ones you linked. Great for chewing and treat delivery… the only challenge is the hard rubber taste that not all the dogs love.”
Amen to that. Our boys love to play with Kong but none are interested in destroying Kong.
Those hard plastic things, Nylabone, are the favorite here. Both chihuahua & mastiff agree, they demand destruction.
Oh, I can’t believe I missed the actual Sunday Night Bassett Pupppy Blogging! Had a class last night and tonight, so not much ‘puter time to discover it.
What an adorable little babe Wembley is turning out to be. And while I still don’t exactly understand the name, it’s growing on me.
Prob’ly ’cause Wembley the pup is so adorably cute, the name is beginning to sound cute, too.
Thanks, TBogg family.
And Kifaru and Catstff – whew – thank goodness it seems likely Josie will be saved. Horrible to think someone would buy her and then, apparently, ignore her. Lovely little lady. Would that I could take her in myself. Hope Bassett Rescue will find her a good home right away.
See y’all on Thurs night for our regular puppy/basset fix.
