John Yoo, the OJ Simpson of torture, takes to the pages of the Wall Street Journal to go “ha ha, you can’t catch me” and to point out that Barack Obama is an ungrateful prick for not thanking him for laying out a legal justification for, say, crushing the testicles of Marc Thiessen’s eight year-old son merely on a National Security hunch. An act that I am sure Thiessen would totally approve of if it were somehow in the interest of keeping this great country of ours safe and you’ll just have to trust us on that because, let’s just say, we have our reasons.
At the very least, Marc Thiessen can make use this threat of potential physical violence in order to get his son to clean up his room, with the added benefit of being able to blame it all on Barack Obama, thereby providing young Master Thiessen with an early start on hatin’ on the swarthies.
In the Thiessen household this is what is known as a “win-win”.

Dude, this one’s in yer top ten. Srsly.
Whoooooop!
Say, Mrs.TBogg – is Wembley’s Brother still available? I have a friend who needs a puppy…..
Yoo’s right, and so was Cheney, about Obamco being quite happy with the range of options Yoo OKd. Gitmo’s still open and as far as i know, we’re still torturing people. Under Obamco. But getting a thank you from what is at least theoretically the opposition party? That’s unrealistic.
Yoo is chillingly bland and unfazed in interviews. He doesn’t rattle even a little when he’s questioned about his support for torture. The guy is straight out of the Spanish Inquisition.
Yes everyone thought “Oh boy, he’s gonna get it now” but then I went on the Daily Show and waved my hands around and blew so much smoke that even Jon Stewart coughed, and got sort of confused, and then everyone left me alone. Nyah nyah.
And, you know.. not only did they not prosecute, but… (increasingly emboldened)…they should thank me for it! Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Something in Yoo’s brain is switched off — or missing.
The kind of guy who would have ratted out supposed enemies during the Terror, just to see their heads roll. Six hundred years ago he would have pointed out ex-girlfriends to the witch hunters. He likes torture, he gets off on it.
I shudder to think what will come out about him in ten years time.
Yoo is a very diseased MF…
Mr. Yoo, know that you are on my Detainee List. You fucking traitor.
Those law school kids at Berkeley sure are lucky to have a national treasure like him teaching them constitutional law…
Yoo do something to we.
f**king bizarro world.
He has trouble with lots of the students at Berkeley. Many refuse to take his course.
Ok what previous law or legal theory was Jon going for hurting a child to get them to confess? My niece I would say anything. So much as getting good intel. And actually to protect my niece I would keep lying.
How can we get John and Condi out?
Yoo is a sociopathic asshole – his time in Bush-Cheney Land just allowed his monstrous nature to blossom.
follow up story?
Yoo has merely outlouded what U.S. prez has been doing for the entire history of U.S. Let me mention just one: torture of Philippine insurgents (or is it freedom fighters; I’m so confused) in 1899. Shoved hoses down their throats and jumped on their swollen bellies. Waterboarding with a vengence.
You know, I haven’t thought of that album in the longest time, and that was so apropos ES.
Ok John do you think its fair if Ossama treats our troops that way? Please say our troops should be treated that way on tape. I’m sick of your excuse.
IOKIYAUS.
Cause, ya know, the U.S. tortures for the betterment of humankind. Freedom & all that. Giving up a lot of freedom to maintain a little (for now anyhow) is a GREAT tradeoff.
Hey tell Michel Malkin that I honestly can’t tell the Filipino kids (hers ) from the Mexican kids and I live in Beacon Hill Seattle, Malkin should worry driving while Brown its a crime in the new neighborhoods she feels safe at.
Snark tag eCHAN
Um, completely OT, but this anti-smoking campaign in France blows, in a great way.
Could be adapted in the US for GOP addicts as well, I guess. (hint, hint)
The Colorado Springs (where Malkin lives) City Council voted 8-1 yesterday to make the homeless tent cities in the city parks illegal.
They should all camp on front of her house now.
nothing spanish about him. I was thinking more a different ethnic water torture.
great one, Tbogg.
I surfaced from some serious writing and there was your wonderful hor d’oeuvre.
Thought it was obvious. As for Malkin’s Philippino children, she’s now living in Colo Springs, so she thinks she’s safe. White by transplant.
Malkin undoubtedly lives in a gated community.
I gave about a day’s thought to generalizing what walls and gates mean. In a word: failure. Of course, the wingnuts concede walls (Berlin) mean failure only when they keep people in, not when they keep people out. A distintion without a difference, as every wall does both.
Malkin lived in Seattle she is Philippino Beacon hill where the Philippino’s live my sector is different than living in the Burbs. I thought I’d warn her what her kids will feel driving Brown in a White area.
eChAhn no hassle but we always have new readers always to connect with them we must explain more. I want new readers.
One day, I hope that Malkin takes residence in a new gated community called Leavenworth. In this context, walls would mean success.
Maybe. But probably not. She seems to be one of those members of a disadvantaged groups who made it, and thinks that everyone can do what she did. Read her wiki. Jindal connection is particularly intriguing.
Touche!!!
Fair enough.
eCHAN my Cousins lived in a Mexican Ghetto their walls were 6 foot high with broken bottles cemented in the walls.
If America becomes like Mexico expect that design feature to be standard. And with the way the economy is going I expect it to happen soon.
My late husband (German Jew whose family left after Krystallnacht) lived in Brazil from 1950 to 1968. Every upper middle class family lived within walls. I always thought how awful that would be, but never had enough knowledge & perspective to question him intelligently about it. Never thought the U.S. would get like that. How naive of me.
yup
Cha! My dad was a nuclear engineer we still got pulled over driving Brown in winter minus 10 as the police called in a AM radio under my seat I had replaced with Am,FM and a tape deck. Me and 5 White Friends waited outside my car until the cops thought we were cool.
We were dressed for a party and standing motionless in the cold. Malkin’s kids growing up where they are I can understand what they will feel:)
And I do feel sorry for them.:(
Class Diff my mom said color don’t matter in Mexico not as much as Cash does. But it still a factor. Better to be brown and act with rich manners than be white than act as trash.
You got Family down there?
No, just traveled somewhat extensively.
Brazil I’m sure beat Germany still Glen Beck will change things that way if he can.
And that pudgy fuck decides it was a “gift” to the presidency? to allow torture? In a blathering complete with Friedmanesque “that’s why they did such and such?”
Fuck you, you fat faced fuck. I want to know you die soon.
My late husband’s oldest son by his first wife married a Mexican, fairly eithnic in appearance, i.e., not a lot of Spanish blood. Her stepmother had Negro blood, and was always looked down upon by the family. I met her, and a more charming and cultured woman you could not find. Sooo sad. Color probably matters more than cash. Both are bad. What about not evaluating peeps at all, but rather taking them for what they are? Rhetorical Q.
Yoo may indeed be a sociopathic monster (I’m reminded of Michael Palin’s character in “Brazil”), but the more important issue for all of us is Obama happily signed off on his absolution.
At this point, all anger at Yoo should most appropriately be directed at Obama.
You I’m sure speak languages I don’t we all have our different gifts. Mine is not languages::)
In the summer of 2001 my son (then 20) and I visited distant relatives in Poland. Language differences were a problem, so we talked a lot between ourselves. On politics, we developed an “oh die already” list, as we were not uncivilized enough to conjure up evil deeds against them. Cheney was #1.
Yep. And there Yoo is spot on.
Is Michael a relative of Sarah?
I wish I did… a few solid months of living there would do a world of good.
Actually, it was Margolis who signed off, undoing the OPR report and all. Stay tuned for more bmaz posts on that.
But your point is well taken; silence is acceptance, and the ol’ Constitutional Law Professor should be outraged and loud about this. And he’s silent.
OT
TDS mocking the Olympics. Couldn’t choose a better subject to mock.
One of best undergraduate courses I ever had, Germany from Bismark to 1960. The professor was a preteen during WWII. Emphasized the Weimar Republic. He said his hope was to firmly implant in the minds of his “elite” super wealthy students that Germany was not a freak. That the worldwide conflagration was not the fault of one man, Hitler, but was in fact the failure of civil society and humankind. “Do not be deluded, it could happen here [USA].” I intellectually accepted that and then I went on to staunchly support and vote for Reagan. I hope when my daughter becomes an adult she will forgive me for that unbelievably stupid period in my life.
O is not silent. He wholeheartedly accepts Yoo.
Rhetorical Q. the OJ trial showed Whites in America that Cash buys the law even for African Americans in Mexico OJ would not have stood trial for an ex waitresses death unless her family was rich.
Whites seemed to hate that rather than argue the facts and OJ’s team seemed better with the facts.
He was a preteen in Nazi Germany.
This is the best history of the Third Reich I’ve ever encountered. Childers tries to remove you from the outcome and put you in the position of Germans who were actually living through the process without knowing the outcome. Verrry instructive.
Uh I think FDR, Hitler and Stalin are the choices a society chooses to take in Crisis. Reagan would lean more for Hitler I think. But I’m open to new views.
“Obama 2012: ‘Hope’ he doesn’t crush your kids’ testicles.”
For every OJ, there are many who disprove what happened to him, including many blacks with $$.
Hope he doesn’t crush and change your kid’s testicles. Gotta get both hopey changey in there.
I’m aware of the whole “forward not backward” stance, but I hadn’t seen where the WH backs Margolis specifically over OPR yet. Where’s that story?
Have not seen that. Will pick it up now. Thanks.
Absolutely agree.
Obama crushing kids’ testicles isn’t changing them?
That’s not just “change,” that’s “medieval tool shed sex change.”
Guess one must attend Harvard Law to learn that kind of thing. Dershowitz teaches it, probably.
I think he was not proven guilty Blacks with cash thought he was guilty? Whites bend reason the glove don’t fit so we must cognitive dissonance ? i think he might be guilty but it was not proven.
Lacy Peterson yeah he was guilty but nobody camped outside CNn tv screens for that trial. A Black guy buying justice however that freaked out even so called Liberals
Childers puts emphasis on the stresses on German society which changed radically in the late 1800s, industrializing late, and unevenly, with the R.C. South remainly largely agrarian and creating social tensions. Then the WWI humiliating loss. Hitler restablished Germany’s place in the world, especially with the 1936 Olympics.
Recently there was a pompous Brit on book-tv, talking about China. Couldn’t bear his attitude for long. But one important point he made was that the reason Mao is held in such great esteem despite his well know failures, resulting in millions of deaths, is that he reunited the Chinese empire.
Reagan, to a very minor extent, is thought to have done that for the U.S.
Sigh.
Of course he’s changing them. Just have to use both words. It’s the message ya know.
His guilt would have been proven were the prosecution not completely incompetent.
And you won’t ever see that story. The whole point of having a consigliere is to insulate the power from the action.
.
That’s the political equivalent of “the Tooth Fairy is thought to leave money under kids’ pillows.”
Perhaps it’s the Democratic President Fairy who leaves money under kids’ pillows in exchange for their testicles?
No, wait…that’s the Lobbyist Fairy who does that for Democratic Congressmen and Senators.
Yes, it sounds like one of my prof’s major points. So very informative and now, so *damn* frightening.
Can’t remember the exact context, but think it was a panel on book-tv. It was full of Bushy apologists, who were detailing the events immediately post-9/11. I was amazed by their consultation with lawyers at every step in the process. At least in their self-serving recounting. Consilierge indeed.
Truer statement never heard. The buck stops there and the policy is issued there as well. When does he wear them?
My takeaway, post-9/11 is that the stresses the U.S. suffered were minor compared to those of Germany post-WWI. Yet how far the U.S. went under those relatively minor stressors.
To no small degree, ultra consolidation of such highly advanced telecommunications propaganda systems.
Thank you for hanging in and keeping the dialogue relevant eCANHNomics.
And her’s a thank you to TBogg. Yours angrily bigbrother the anti corporatist small business supporter, labor rights, civl rights and green activist. I demonstrated for farm workers in 1970 when Cesar was their fearless leader. Anti pesticide grown foods and organic farming supporter. fainness to all and universal medical treatment for whatever kind you want. Alternative medicine should be funded by any “Health Care’ bll with generous preventive medicine and education. My neighbors on both sides and across the street are hspanic…best neighbors evah. I am an old skinny white boy hippie yoga type. Love to all peace to the universe.
Good on you, bigbrother! Damn good on you! That we all should live well and prosper.
Yoo is hardly a war criminal/sociopath at all compared to say Kissinger or George Bush. Why single him out? It would make more sense to just take him out in the parking lot and ………………..
EVERY moment that John Yoo is free is another MOMENT that the American People are complicit in WAR CRIMES.
I’m watching a documentary called RICH AND RECKLESS about the 1992 kidnapping of Exxon exec Sidney Reso, by Arthur Seale. The film features Michael Chertoff decrying the exec being stuffed in a coffin w/ airholes by the kidnapper.
Chertoff’s Role in Aug. 2002 Torture Memo Called into Question at Confirmation Hearing
I just hope that someday this creep gets to experience real torture. Sick minded SOB.
John Yoo is just saying what about 40-50 percent of Americans actually think, and he knows that.
When your country has to pass a law against randomly stringing up black men, beating them to death and setting them on fire just because they are black men, your country has terminal brain damage.
