Before we get started…
Regarding American Idol:
Michelle Dellamore – She seemed to have a decent voice, but her song choice was pure crap. Seriously, the entirety of America hates Creed. Choosing a Scott Stapp song was clearly her downfall.
When people who actually give a shit about American Idol trash Creed this does not portend 2010 Summer Stadium Tour.
Okay, now music:
Winter Hill – Doves
Great Expectations – Jurassic 5
Heart of Glass – The Bad Plus
Thunderstorm – Matthew Sweet
Shadows – Sunny Day Real Estate
Dogma – K.M.F.D.M.
Cradle and All – Ani DiFranco
Novelty – Joy Division
634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.) – Ry Cooder
Corvette – Golden Smog
…and: She Cries Your Name – Beth Orton
I have a hankering for new music and I’m looking at new CD’s from The Soft Pack, Local Natives, Frightened Rabbit, and Bear In Heaven. Any imput/commentary on these bands (in comments) would be appreciated. Thankyew.

I like the new Local Natives album and Frightened Rabbit’s new one is good, but nearly as good as their first “Midnight Organ Fight”. We Were Promised Jetpacks is similar to Frightened Rabbit and worth checking out. The Soft Pack I felt was rather pedestrian or just “meh” if pedestrian makes me sound too much like a smarmy asshole. The album reminded me of 1,000 other mediocre bands that played unmemorable music. For something not on your list, try Hjaltalin’s “Sleepdrunk Seasons”.
Ten random iPod tracks:
Otis Redding: “Mr Pitiful”
M. Smidak: MENDELSSOHN Variations Serieuses
Fink Along with MAD: “Her Dad’s Got Money Cha Cha Cha”

Fred Rogers: “Propel, Propel, Propel Your Craft”
Richard Purvis: ROMBERG Serenade from The Student Prince

anonymous midi: “Albatross” (after Fleetwood Mac)
Malcolm Proud: PURCELL Ground in Gamut from Suite 3
also
Jovanka Marville: FARNABY Loth to Depart from Fitzwilliam Virginal Book
The new Soft Pack album is a pretty good listen. The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night and the new Chinawoman album have been in heavy rotation here of late. Also.

I agree with SurlyDuff and foinsap. Frightened Rabbit’s new one is good but not up to their previous effort. We Were Promised Jetpacks is phenomenal. I would add is The Twilight Sad (all three of these are Scottish and on the same label — Fat Cat), who are dark and atmospheric but melodic. Also, another good new one is Let’s Wrestle. There full length debut (in the Court of Wrestling Let’s) was to be released on Merge Records on March 23, but looks like it might have been pushed back to June, although emusic has it for download now
I haven’t listened to much lately but Treadmill Trackstars are alright.
Eclecticism rulez OK here – impressive, you guys.
Haven’t had time to expand my music horizons much of late – but if you want something pretty different, TBogg, you might give a listen to MacUmba – also Scottish based, but with a kicker. Their stuff combines bagpipes and Scots material with Brazilian samba, and the result is amazing. They haven’t had a new album for several years but according to their website (www.macumba.com) a new one is trembling on the brink of availableness. I’ll be getting it!
