It occurred to me, when flipping through old pictures, that I have replaced one complimentary set of dogs…
…with an entirely new set.
While I’ve accepted losing Satchmo, I still can’t get over the fact that Beckham is gone. It’s not that it happened so recently so much as the fact that I’ve never lost a dog so suddenly who was so young. Fortunately Wembley has enough personality for three dogs…

It looks like Wembley is about ready to ask you what you meant by that crack. “Personality? You like them shoes?”
Just as w/ humanoid children, it’s extra grim when they go before their time. I hope all continues to be well.
Lovely pix – both sets of boys.
We hear ya, TBogg; it was shocking enough to us who never met him other than through your lovely photos of him; can’t imagine how much more so for you.
Wembley is a cutie, tho. Also, it’s hard to get used to Fenway being the elder brother, no? Best wishes for continued health for all, canine and human.
What a lovely surprise seeing the Statically Dynamic Duo again.
They were such a great comic team, like Walter Mathau and
Jack LemmonGhandi. Though Satchmo had plenty of Jack Benny in him too. Teh suave, the coy, the wry, the saintly.I embiggened the first pic and it’s now on my desktop.
Wembley’s definitely got ‘tude and I look forward to many stories.
I’m beginning to think that Wembley’s gruff exterior is a case of “methinks he doth protest too much.”
Handsome boys, they are, no doubt about it. A veritable Basset Butch & Sundance.
I dunno, Bogg. These bassets seem kinda high-risk sickly to me. They die too easily. I think you should consider a different breed. How ’bout some Cavalier King Charles Spaniels? Now there’s a dog.
That’s quite a poker face Wembley has going on there. And they are all beautiful.
Love the basset mashup of Fenway and Wembley.
Returned to look at the fellas.
Looking at the photo of W&F, I get the impression Wembles is protective and possessive of Fenway. Because he loves him so.
and paws for at least 3-4 other dogs too and maybe a cat and a few stray gerbils to boot.
You’re right, one does not expect the younger ones to die, and to die so quickly without time to prepare is cruel. And honestly, some pets have that special something that makes them stand out. Our first dog was a sweet, lovable guy, and when he passed on, we felt a bittersweet sadness. Our current dog is a different creature indeed, very smart, loaded with personality, and one of those dogs who sort of transcends dogginess. I dread the time when she goes.
Thanks for the pics, again. It’s nice to see Who Was and Who Is.
I see Wembley has been practicing his Churchill look. Or is that Admiral Akbar? And can we assume from Fenway’s electric presentation there that he’s feeling better?
Nice pic of those-who-shall-never-be-forgotten.
what tejana said! I too still find it difficult to accept Becks (and Master Kobe) being taken so suddenly – sigh
wow. great clip I’d never seen before. thx
Thanks for the pics and for sharing your “family” with us.
All four boys are simply beautiful. Thank you for continuing to share these wonderboys with us rabblerousers. Much appreciated.
Many thanks for the pic of the Elder Basset Boyz. We all loved them at a distance and second hand through the years.
Complimentary dogs? What? Are they free if we buy a drink?
OMG, is that second picture a two-headed beast? Heh.
Fixed it.
