For those interested, NPR is streaming The National’s new album, High Violet, which will be released Tuesday.

Also. The National’s benefit concert for the Red Hot Organization on May 15th will be webcast, with D.A. Pennebaker as director:

D.A. Pennebaker is an 84-year-old documentary filmmaker, known for the notorious Dylan-in-1965 tour film Don’t Look Back, the festival doc Monterey Pop, and David Bowie’s concert film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.

Octogenarian filmmaking legends don’t usually mess with things like YouTube webcasts, but Pennebaker and his wife and frequent co-director Chris Hegedus are doing just that for the National. That’s just how big a deal those guys are now.

On May 15, the National will play a show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It’ll be a benefit for the Red Hot Organization, the AIDS-fighting charity that the National’s Dessner brothers raised money for with their Dark Was the Night compilation. There will be special guests, and you only have to look at the Dark Was the Night tracklist to realize that the guys in the National know just about everyone in indie rock.

The show will stream live on YouTube and be available online for a month afterwards. Pennebaker and Hegedus will direct the webcast. It’s the first time the two of them have directed a live show. Pennebaker and Hegedus will also open the show, in a fashion. Before the National plays, a short film of theirs will screen.
