Pat Buchanan who has a soft spot in his heart for anything Master Racesque is very concerned that Elana Kagan will upset the delicate balance on the Supreme Court between Catholics and the people who killed their blond-haired blue-eyed-savior, and so he wants to know why Democrats don’t pick an Irish or Polish Catholic guy like Republicans always do:
Indeed, of the last seven justices nominated by Democrats JFK, LBJ, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, one was black, Marshall; one was Puerto Rican, Sonia Sotomayor. The other five were Jews: Arthur Goldberg, Abe Fortas, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan.
If Kagan is confirmed, Jews, who represent less than 2 percent of the U.S. population, will have 33 percent of the Supreme Court seats.
Is this the Democrats’ idea of diversity?
But while leaders in the black community may be upset, the folks who look more like the real targets of liberal bias are white Protestants and Catholics, who still constitute well over half of the U.S. population.
And at 50% of the population, white Jeebus folks are in danger of losing their 77% representation which is unfair and…oh, fuck it; Pat Buchanan is a white supremacist Nazi-hugger and everyone knows it and they still put him on teevee because he makes everyone else look sane and tolerant so, whatever, although it will be amusing watching Jennifer Rubin at Contentions figure out how to use this latest line of attack on Obama without pulling a hamstring.

When your only real claim to fame is having been just one of the many psychophantic, freaking hacks in the fecking NIXON Administration, you’ll always have a cot waiting for you in the Morning Joe green room.
John Gotti was the Teflon Don. Buchanan is the Teflon Prick. He’s been saying horrible, racist, stupid shit for decades, but he’s always welcome back to spout more shit for the teevee.

If Jews are less than 2% of the population, why does Buchanan spend 58.7% of his air time talking about them?

I wonder if Buchanan knows the number of those of Jewish faith in the House and Senate. They are over-represented there as well, and people elected them anyway. God, Buchanan is such a tool!!
The title alone was worth the price of admission. The last time Pat went all racist on us, MSNBC kept him off the air for two whole days. I’d rate this about 2.7 on their scale.

If we’re really going this way, then at least four of the Supremes would have to have below-average intelligence; to Buchanan, this would be a plus, because then they’d be big fans of his.
You people are being mean. Pat holds Jews in very, very high regard. In fact he thinks they should all wear big bright yellow stars so that other Americans could identify them quickly and treat them with all due kindness.

I know you think you’re being sardonic, but remember – or perhaps you’re too young – back in the ’70′s, Nixon nominated a medicore-at-best southerner named Carswell for the Court. He was quickly shown to be below average in the brains dept.
Sen. Roman Hruska, IIRC, of Neb., objected to the complaints. “Mediocre people,” he said, deserved reprsenetation on the Supreme Court, too.

Roberts is so blazingly, aggressively, fearsomely white-bread in his whole persona (not to mention that startling-looking family of his), it never occurred to me he might be Catholic. Being a product of a squalid crockpot of immigrant culture (the Metro NYC area), I took one look at those staring blue eyes and that a-biological hair, and assumed he was some variety of Protestant. Where I come from, Catholics don’t generally look like they’ve been sculpted from Roundup-saturated styrofoam. Even Pat B. doesn’t look that way, give him that.

Whenever someone calls MSNBC the ‘liberal’ cable news network, I remind them that far-right former Congressman Joe Scarborough has three hours in the morning and that this racist homophobic anti-Semite Buchanan appears to have a cot in the green room.
Rachel, at least, seems to have listened to her viewers’ complaints after her last go-round with him. But otherwise, Pat’s got an all-access pass.

Did Rachel listen to viewers or did she finally just get appalled at his various prejudices? I remember the first time that she interviewed him on Air America and she’s often used him as a foil since then. I think that interview gave her the strength and confidence to be where she is today.
If what Pat is saying is true then why is it racist for him to say it? He didnt say anything derogatory about Jews, he just stated that for a small percentage of our population they have an unusually large representation on our Supreme Court. How is that racist? And furthermore how is having that many Jews on the court representative of our democracy?

It’s the fact that he considers the number of Jews on the court an issue at all. It’s the Supreme Court. They are supposed to be qualified to sit on the bench and there shouldn’t be a religion test. There aren’t any atheists on the court either and there are a hell of a lot more of us than 2%. I don’t hear Pat, (or you), bitching about that.
On a serious note, why not focus on qualifications (ya know, the constitushun) AND ethnic/religious/issue backgrounds? I am just as offended about the overweight of R.C.s, as if I weren’t aware overturning the agenda of Roe v. Wade.

Yep, as I said, if Pat can be offended by the number of Jewish Justices, how come I’m not supposed to be offended by the lack of atheists? Six Roman Catholics represent 66.6% of the population and now WAY do that many people practice Catholicism in this country. Don’t hear Pat pointing that out either so the over representation must not be a problem while the over representation of Jewish people is.
And the shoes would be much less boring.
I remember reading, years ago, that the Catholicism is from his mother’s family: German Catholics. His father’s family was Irish Protestants.
(That’s maybe why he’s confused: his stereotypes are backwards.)

On a related note, I met some relatively new neighbors for dinner last night, a lesbian couple, & friends: another lesbian couple, a straight couple & me. I.E. 7 gals, one guy. Only time I’ve been in such a gender distribution where the guy seemed perfectly comfortable. Most good.

Agree on the dickies. Was thinking of the R.C. color coded gowns, depending on the the season of the R.C. church. To my dim memory, they do green, purple, white, gold, can’t remember what other color.
I also have a dim memory of being in some European city out-of-the-way museum (or maybe it was even in the U.S.) where there was a special exhibit of priests’ robes modern artish. Would have worked for the Gay Halloween parade.

Many years ago, before I had any idea that Tourette syndrome existed, I encountered someone afflicted by it. His behavior was truly bizarre — and it had earned him an early discharge from the US Army while still in basic training (apparently the Army disapproved of a private referring to his CO’s wife as a … oh never mind) — but next to Beck, as I think back today, the guy with TS seems unexceptional, even ordinary.

It is not exactly Sunni and Shia, but Catholics aint exactly representative of Protestants. I don’t imagine Buchanan can understand that.
Pat Buchanan is just another myth and fairy tale preacher. The bible is just and anthology, much in the light of Grimm’s fairy tales. To build your life based on the fairy tales in the book is foolish at best. The only thing accomplished is that the fellows pushing the book are asking for money in return for nothing. Wake up! There never was a boogy man under your bed. Time to grow up and leave your fears behind you. If you look at the past too much you will miss what is coming your way in the future, you will be marginalized.
