People unclear on the concept:
Michael Vick has been barred from traveling out of Pennsylvania by probation officials in the wake of a shooting after his birthday party last month, a Philadelphia TV station reported Sunday.
Vick, who must have travel plans approved, missed scheduled appearances this weekend at his own golf tournament in Atlanta and at a youth football camp in Raleigh, N.C., as he stayed in Philadelphia, his spokeswoman, Judy Smith said.
[...]
Spokespersons for both events Vick missed this weekend say they weren’t notified until Sunday morning that Vick would not be attending.
“They called early, like 2 o’clock in the morning, telling us he’s not coming,” said Cornelius Corprew, director of Camp Elite Sports’ two-day football camp. “And then we couldn’t speak to him. It was through one of his associates.
“We’re not crazy. No state agency is communicating at 2 o’clock in the morning that he’s not allowed to come. I think that was a selfish act.”
Corprew said that he was told Saturday by Vick representatives that the NFL star would be there Sunday. He said Vick was paid a $2,000 deposit of a $4,000 fee. He said the camp was built around Vick’s appearance, and that campers paid $175 each and were promised packages that included photos and autographs.
“I’m upset because our camp is built on integrity and character and that’s what we teach to our kids,” Corprew said.
Because when you think of “integrity and character” Michael Vick is the first person who springs to mind.
July 17, 2007 — Vick, Peace, Phillips and Taylor are charged by a federal grand jury in Richmond with conspiring to engage in competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines.
July 26, 2007 — Vick and his co-defendants plead not guilty to the charges.
July 30, 2007 — Taylor changes his plea to guilty and agrees to cooperate with the prosecution of Vick and the other two men.
Aug. 17, 2007 — Peace and Phillips plead guilty and implicate Vick in bankrolling gambling on dogfights. One says the quarterback helped drown or hang dogs that didn’t do well.
Aug. 23, 2007 — Vick signs plea agreement and statement of facts admitting to conspiracy in a dogfighting ring and helping kill pit bulls. He denies betting on the fights, only bankrolling them.
Aug. 24, 2007 — NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspends Vick indefinitely without pay from the NFL.
Aug. 27, 2007 — Vick pleads guilty to dogfighting conspiracy before U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson. At a news conference, Vick apologizes for “using bad judgment and making bad decisions. I offer my deepest apologies to everyone. And I will redeem myself. I have to.”
Nov. 20, 2007 — Vick surrenders to U.S. marshals and begins serving his sentence in a Virginia jail three weeks before his official sentencing.
Dec. 10, 2007 — Vick is sentenced to 23 months in federal prison.
Jan. 7, 2008 — Vick leaves Virginia to enter a drug treatment program at a Leavenworth, Kan., minimum security facility.
July 8, 2008 — Vick files for bankruptcy protection.
Nov. 25, 2008 — Vick appears in a Virginia courtroom to plead guilty to a state dogfighting charge and receives a three-year suspended sentence.
April 3, 2009 — Vick testifies in federal bankruptcy court that he has become a changed man and will do all the right things upon his release from prison, including repaying his creditors by resuming his professional football career.
Seriously, Cornelius. You’re a dumbass who shouldn’t be allowed around children.

What color is the sky on Cornelius Corprew’s home planet?
I have an idea. If they’re going to base a camp on integrity in football, why not look around and find players who have some, instead of trying to hook up with the most famous guy they can find? I don’t know much about the sport, but I’m pretty sure there would be guys who are honest and haven’t been killed by friendly fire in Iraq.
f*ck Vick and the dog he rode in on
If you’re going to invite an NFL star to a youth football camp at least invite Tim Tebow.
What? Oh.
Timmie’s not a star and probably shouldn’t be around children lest he try to put a little jebuz into ‘em…
[Or circumcise them - Tom]
Guess they couldn’t get Lawrence Taylor.
File this under “nobody could have anticipated”….
I bet Carl Eller was available. If Carl is living in North Mpls, he’s gotta be hurting for money.
Ben Roethlisberger has some free time, since the NFL Commish suspended him from playing in the first six games of the coming season. Something to do with an unfortunate misunderstanding in a bar down in Georgia.
When you’re lookin’ for an example of “integrity and character”, Big Ben oughta leap to mind.
Eagles owner Jeff Lurie when he signed Michael Vick:
“There’s no third chances and we know that. If it isn’t fulfilled the way we expect it to be, then it will be the end.”
Eagles owner Jeff Lurie (or anyone on team management) since the shooting:
Cricket…cricket…cricket
Been a Philadelphian all my life, but I’m so looking forward to McNabb having the last laugh.
me too
toss Vick out on his ear
Fuck Vick. I have 2 Pitbulls (have had many others my whole life), and love them dearly. Their nature is to be sweet and goofy. They’re not mean and agressive unless they are tortured and abused. Any dog, just like a child or any other living, feeling being, will respond to their environment. My dogs have always been loved and socialized with other dogs and humans, and are full of nothing but love. Anybody who derives pleasure out of the intentional suffering and exploitation of others is a piece of fucking shit, and deserves nothing but scorn and expulsion from civilized society. Sociopaths are the cause of most of our problems. They should be pariahs.
Everybody, meet Pitbull Sharky.
Cornelius Corprew? My God, you couldn’t make these people up.
The court should have taken Vick’s money away and any opportunity to cash in on his sports fame, since money is the only thing that fucking loser values.
More enlightened analysis from the article:
Terance Mathis, a former Vick teammate with the Atlanta Falcons, played in the golf tournament. He said he was disappointed Vick wasn’t there, but admires Vick’s charitable efforts.
“He’s still doing a great thing, trying to raise money for charities and help the community,” said the former NFL wide receiver.</em>
Hmmmm. $4,000 to show up, spit out a few paragraphs on ‘integrity’, sign a couple of autographs, play some golf, then have a big steak and lobster dinner? I bet the 10% of the nation that is unemployed would like to get a job making “charitable efforts” like that. Or at least, get some of the leftover steak and lobster.
Holy crap, I could d’awwww over that vid all day.
I’d add Mike Tyson to the list of apparently-acceptable substitutes, but I think we all get the point. Never mind Cornelius Coprophage; what about the parents who thought that $175 was a fair price for quality time with the dogkiller? If the numerous conservative organizations with “family” in their names were really concerned about families, rather than trying to keep gay people from getting married, they’d point at shit like this and say, “Yeah, this right here? Fuck this commotion.”
Looks like there is an opportunity for yet another “Law and Order”:
The Athlete Special Services or ASS for short.
OK, that dog is the sweetest thing ever. I was a bit leery of pits until I met one in real life, and he’s the best, sweetest, most smoochiest dog evah. As for Corprew, it’s like asking the scorpion not to bite you, man. It’s not in the scorpion’s nature. Idiot.
Integrity, character — oh, and petsitting.
It is one of the most despicable injustices in our society that an entire breed of dog can be labeled with desriptors such as “aggressive”, “dangerous”,”mean” etc. simply because they are “owned” by monsters like Michael Vick. Anyone who would derive pleasure or financial gain from the systematic torture of defenseless animals should be subjected to exactly that same torture and then left alone to die a slow painful death from their wounds. I am not a violent person but I would be first in line to watch Vick and every other person involved in dog fighting receive what they so justly deserve. And that’s not a career in the NFL….
