The whole point of owning a basset is that you have to be more stubborn than they are, otherwise they walk all over you…Of course, there is a reason basset folks refer to themselves as “food-slaves” :)
It’s funny that you should point out that he looks like he’s talking. He is BY FAR the most vocal of all the dogs we have had. He not only barks and howls, he chortles, he chuffles, and he “ruff, ruff, ruff”s at you if you come into a room unexpectedly. It’s as if he is scolding you for frightening him. Such a love, such a character, and worth every bit of “snowhell” that I had to go through to get him!
Oh, that reminds me…I thought of TBogg and the bassett boyz when I was in Maryland visiting my mother in the hospital. As I turned down the street from York Road to the hospital, I passed a lovely old house on a corner with a raised deck. There was a fence around it, but I could just see, hanging from the deck, moving in the breeze, a banner – with a huge portrait of a … bassett hound!
(Bet you guessed it, huh?) Such a mournful expression on the banner-bassett. So every day, I got a little reminder of Wembley and Fenway (the banner dog looked more like Fenway).
I lost my dog around the time you picked up Wembley in State College and have enjoyed watching him grow. He’s one kewl kid. Lived in SD back in ’73 and was wondering, and it’s a long shot, if you might have any photos of old town San Diego. Specifically down near 4th St. of the old Union, Evening Tribune Bldg. I’d love to have one. I worked there and helped them move to Mission Valley, and have a pic of that bldg. I’ll just have to watch the pups. Thanx for the lively prose, TBogg.
Either Wembley’s fur is eating his collar, or he got a piercing. I suppose it could have been worse, like, say, a canine “Prince Albert”…
He is one handsome bastard. Oops, I mean basset.
Ok, I’ve cried this wolf before but…
CUTEST PHOTO EVAR!!
(I would so nom nom that snout.)
How can you stand being around all that weapons-grade cute every day? I’d melt into a pool of dithering goo…
Thank the FSM. Lantanas are poisonous.
Goddess he’s delicious…

Umm, he’s got a bit of a paunch hanging over the beltline there.
But the black is slimming, so I guess it’s OK.
The shine on my fur
comes from essence o’ flowers.
Me so delicate.
That is a lovely portrait. Loves me some Wembley.
Oh my gosh! I actually see eyeballs in this photo! So many times they are hidden by the orange spot – false flag eyes.
He may have wrinkly legs, but his face is gorgeous.
My that is one photogenic puppy dog.
Beauty boy.
it’s a toss-up … the ears … the freckles … don’t know which kills me more every Puppy Sunday …
What a beautiful headshot–and the most soulful eyes evah.
Looks like he’s posing for an album cover “Howling the night away….Wembley has the blues.”
The lantana might be poisonous, but how about those little orange moths that frequent the flowers? I hear they’re delectable.
What were the two of you talking about? It looks for all the world as though Wembley is speaking, albeit quietly.
Long ago, I dreamed that my dog told me he had found Terry Anderson. I would have loved to have a conversation with my old Lab buddy; he was the best.
Excellent photo, outstanding (next to flowers) dog!
Aw, Wembley looks so handsome and dignified!

Esteemed TBoggs, I thought of you and yours (from Cooder to Wembley) when I saw this today.
The likeness to her pets is outstanding. And the gallery is awesome (slideshow highly recommended).
Video! (please) :)
Handsome TDoggg.
