I took this shot the other day and something about it reminded me of album liner band photos from the seventies (so I converted it to black and white for verisimilitude) when the band members were all trying to look too cool and disinterested to be into that whole rock star thing (see below: Joe Walsh and Don Felder to the left).
Eh Maybe it’s just me.

I can see the resemblance. It’s just amazing that anyone can remember a 40-year-old Eagles photo.
The comparison is apt, although the boys have already learned an important lesson: unless you’re Brendan Croker, the hat never looks as good as you think it will.
I’m getting more of a Fleetwood Mac vibe than the Eagles
I’m with you. A certain resemblance to the famous cover of Rumors.
Nailed it!
They do look like a couple of hippy rockers or a rocker hippy couple.
I’m also thinkin’ Spaghetti Western and Deadwood.
That’s a photo of some of the coolest dudes I’ve ever seen. And the other is a rick band.
I’m seeing “American Gothic” meets “Poker Playing Dogs On Velvet”, via Ansel Adams.
Dang. TBogg has a better memory than I do. I’m racking my brain for comparisons, but just seeing a behind-the-eyes-slideshow of generic rock albums circa 1969-71.
Anyway, the boyz always photograph beautifully in every genre.
Lovely Thursday night bassetts.
Damn, does Fenway look like Saint Satchmo more every week or is it just me?
He certainly looks certainly, which has to be a heck of a switch. How’d he morph from the Bad Boy so quick? Just ’cause a badder one came to live with him?
Fenway looks wayyyyy mellow on some fine weed, and Wembley appears to have been caught with some ‘shrooms in a mid-ingestion move. Couple of guys sitting on an old half-stuffed sofa in the middle of a field overgrown with wildflowers. Rickety wood shed with a sagging porch in the background. Oh, man, now you’ve got me going, I’m gonna spend all night going through the vinyl collection to find that picture…
the buckingham-nicks cover came to my mind, but it might not have had anything to do with bassets.

Welcome to the Hotel TBogg.
You can check out any Basset you like, but you can never leave.
By George I think you’ve nailed it.
most awesome — just had to see it again.
Wembley looks like he’s in morning after a dissolute night mode whereas Fenway appears totally angelic — post evening of Zen meditation.
He was actually reminded of the Doobie Brothers’ “Toulouse Street” but that had a boob in it and the bejeweled and bedeviled Mrs. Tbogg made him throw it away.
They’ve pretty clearly been doing something they oughtn’t have been. Doing.
Love the comparison.
But if Wembley is this surly-looking now when he’s just a kid, what is he going to be like when he hits those troublesome teenage years?
Go straight to the “C’s”, and find the first CSN album. Bonus: that incredible Martin D-45 of Stills’ front and center.
Deja Vu had a similar set up. I seem to recall a recurring “faded photo-Old West” theme for a lot of the groups in the 70′s.
Light and shadows play.
But which do you focus on?
Show us your own light.
If you could only breed those guys with solar collectors in those ears! Coupled with their natural affection for sleeping for hours in the sun it could make a huge dent in supplying our energy needs.
Oh, and, yeah, handsome guys, look cool blah blah blah…
Concerning the Eagles, I’m with “The Dude” Lebowski.
ooooh, very Chelsea Hotel, TBogg
When I see Wembley these days I see a stone-cold killer. There is death, and then a nap, in those eyes.
How interested could you be if you had just done a pound of blow?
You’re ALL stoned. Go get a job and cut your hair; it’s just a picture.
{still figuring out the link with actual text thingie}
With all the attributing thoughts and emotions to those sphinxes (especially the ominous Wembley), and of course with a nod to the dominant demographic here (teen spirit in the 70s?), isn’t the liner photo for Steely Dan’s Greatest hits a better match?
Willie, Waylon, Tompall Glaser and Jessi Colter:
Wanted! The Outlaws
That top picture has a noir feel to it, to me. Love Wembley’s caught-up-extra-lip-in-the-tooth look going on, too. Bassetts, Private Eye. I can see them in fedoras and trench coats scoping out the joint.
Heh.
Wembley looks so huge and Fenway so small and both just gaw-jus!
