Republicans wouldn’t mind humping Sarah Palin in the backseat of their Camaro, but they don’t really consider her marriage material.
Sarah Palin might think she could get elected President in 2012, but few Americans agree. Only 28% of voters in the country think that Palin is capable of defeating Barack Obama while 60% think she is not and 12% aren’t sure.
What might be most troubling for Palin within those numbers is that less than half of Republicans think she’s capable of beating Obama- 48% think she would be able to, 37% think she would not be able to, and 15% have no opinion. Republicans continue overwhelmingly to like Palin- 67% have a favorable opinion of her- but a pretty large number of them have serious electability concerns about her.
Many GOP voters who admire Palin may be left having to decide whether it’s more important to them to defeat Barack Obama or to help advance her political career and that may prove to be too high a hurdle for her to overcome.
I think this part might be a bit of a stretch
At the same time these numbers also suggest a risk of complacency for Democrats if Palin were to win the 2012 nomination. 82% of them say they think Palin’s incapable of beating Obama to just 12% who think she could. Palin trails Obama by 9 points in a hypothetical contest right now. That’s a lot of ground to make up in the next two years but if voters continue to be unhappy with the state of the economy and Democrats take an Obama/Palin match up for granted something unexpected could happen. If Palin does win the nomination Obama will need to find a way to convince his troops to work as hard as they did in 2008 anyway and not leave anything to chance.
The idea of Snowbilly Snooki having even a slight chance of winning (to say nothing of the existential threat of her being even more ever-present in our lives) should pretty much guarantee a higher voter turn-out than usual. This isn’t Bob Dole we’re talking about here. To say nothing of the fact that Democratic voters who might decide to not vote, based upon the assumption that the election is going to be a blowout, would be more than made up for by Country Club Republicans who aren’t exactly in any rush to witness The End Times anytime soon. At least not until they own all of the toys.
For all of its faults, conservatism isn’t a suicide pact. It just seems that way sometimes…

Standard response: if Palin ever looks like being elected, smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, because that’ll be the least of your worries.
Okay, I need puppies. This is all too dispiriting, since I think you may be too confident about the unlikelihood of Sarah. (And what’s the alternative, anyway? Four more years of Obama? I know, I know, Sarah would be unimaginably worse, but.)
My spirit is lifted a bit, though, when I read about “grifter” as a term originating from Atlantic City. My fascination with con artists (think Henry James), with wise guys, and with Atlantic City in the old days (pre-casinos, in their corporate glory). A mid-1960′s 15 year-old, who’s recently graduated from childishly innocent body-surfing in those rough NJ waters with mussel-shells scraping your legs and belly, to necking on the beach with some near stranger-boy-fellow-adolescent, as her experience of that wondrous ocean. Now, a few months later, in her mode as a violinist in All-State Orchestra, though no less full of those summer longings of adolescence. Now it’s November, when the orchestra has its final rehearsals and first concert (Kodaly! Beethoven! I can still play every note in my head) in this wonderfully honky-tonk city in hibernation. (Do California beaches know this degree of seasonal variation?) I discovered on some walks by myself, during some breaks from rehearsals, the beauty of November desolation on the beach — a desolation I connected then, as now, with the boarded-up shacks of Gypsy (Gitani/Romani — I knew not any distinction then) fortune-tellers and such. Some strange optimism may be retrieved from that Atlantic City’s grifter world and the longings of youthful glints of November hope?
I hope to FSM you’re right. I fear Dems will just assume she’s electable and stay home. Well, hopefully the fear of a Palin-run country is enough to stop that.
Although, part of me is curious to see her as president? Would there still be a White House Press Corp? She can duck and hide from the press presently, but the president can’t get away with that, right?
Yeah, I wonder shit like that too.
“Oooh I wonder what the bubonic plague is really like?”
Oh all right, she’s not bubonic plague.
Maybe cholera…
Well, on the plus side, there would be the potential for the most hilarious political assassination in history.
Look, guys – even the Freeperati are starting to jump ship:

I agree … it’s silly to the point it’s unwatchable for anyone but the staunchest Palin koolaiders.. I had to change channels half way through the halibut part.. lets drive a hundred miles on a bus ride to watch Bristol try to hit a fish in the head with a bat… let’s see if Bristol can hit a clay pidgeon after the 20th pull… with Sarah non stop talking the whole time.
I’d watch it if it was called Todd Palin’s Alaska and it was him and his buddies really fishing(not that fake fishing while the bears ran around), snow mobiling, flying and hunting in beautiful Alaska ala American Sportsman

Too funny.
Part way through the show, even though I had fast forwarded through the reality show fluff, I found myself shouting, “HIRE A DAMN NARRATOR!!!!”
My wife yelled at me for using the “d” word in front of my daughter. Shortly after that, she said to me under her breath, “Yea, she’s getting on my nerves, too.”

See?
Two years ago, this kind of blasphemy would have cost them their FR accounts.

That Palin’s even vaguely conceivable is largely a product of the teaparty (a third party)inroads into the the GOP. That she’s jackass doesn’t mean that Obama should be the candidate the Dems choose for 2012, anymore than Nixon’s emergence meant Humphrey was a very good candidate then.
If Obama runs the next two years with the economy at 10% unemployment, anything is possible.
Including President Palin.
Yeah, it would probably be a good thing to drum up a powerful Kucinich candidacy if Palin wins the Republican crapshoot. We were able to dodge a bullet in 2008, so what the hell, let’s chance it again. As you suggest, McCarthy helped give us Nixon in ’68, and Nader helped give us Bush in 2000, and nothing really happened that we couldn’t recover from in two or three decades. So why not screw around some more in 2012? There’s always a chance that we could elect a progressive who would satisfy two or three of us.
Laugh all you want but you’ll be sorry when Kenny G becomes President.
Yes, but since he would be president, we would have to use the more formal “Kenneth” G.
Agreed. I think it depends on how much longer the TP asswipes continues to dominate media attention, and dictate to the rest of the GOP. I give it 50/50.
Perhaps Obama will change course, or perhaps someone will elbow him in the face and deliver the message “Look, if we WANTED a republican, we would have VOTED FOR a republican!”. If he doesn’t get it, expect a primary fight and/or a GOP win.
Is JimRob still running the joint? And how do you avoid the malware cooties?
Full name is Kenneth J. G
In a grand tradition.
Holy Smoke! H/T for the interesting site.
Matt Groening named Simpsons and Futurama characters with “J” middle names in a sort of tribute to Moose and Squirrel, apparently, something I had never realized.
And all his SOTUs will be voice-overs of Reagan’s “shining city” speech.
If it’s Kenny G vs Sara, I’m gettin’ the heck outta Dodge. I wonder if that Russian rocket can make it to permanent Earth orbit…
further detail in this poll shows that 98% of that 48% initially responded to the question about Palin’s electability with the following response:
“My cat’s breath smells like catfood.”
If it hastens the collapse of this oligarchy I’ll vote for her. Sorry but I can’t continue to look for little rays of light through the bullshit that just keeps coming no matter who’s in office. I’ve had enough.
We don’t need another revolution in this country, we need another Noah-class flood.
It’s neato how Smooth J Jazz follows up his comments on PPP with “Anonymous: Way To Go smoothjazz!!1!1″
Palin could come out on top in a three-way with Michael Bloomberg! Just typing that sent a thrill up my leg.
A mid-1960′s 15 year-old, who’s recently graduated from childishly innocent body-surfing in those rough NJ waters with mussel-shells scraping your legs
Same here, via my mother’s aunt’s guest house on St. Charles Place when it was literally lined with mansions. (On the corner of it and Boardwalk: The Globe Burlesque. Busty Russell! Blaze Starr! and a little loudspeaker out front droning “Show time! Show time!”)
Then, years later, trying to body surf at Laguna, learning that I self-taughtedly rode the waves too low, and risked slicing my chest open on the sharp rocks on the floor. Come back, Atlantic Ocean. All is forgiven.
I found this bit interesting:
That’s also the age of a big chunk of teabaggers. Also, napscoordinator’s funky math was precious.
AKA the Crazification Factor.
In fact, the median age of the show['s viewership] is 57 — that’s 15 years older than TLC’s average
They could boost their ratings if they’d air it before 6pm, when her audience has long finished dinner, had their late-night prune juice, the Fox News Hatefuck Afternoon Block is over and they’re falling asleep in front of the TV.
Hey, I just left a comment over there attacking Palin for liking Kenny G. Can’t wait for Smoove’s response.
Not only is he running the place, he’s declared a “Romneybot” purge of FR, even if Romney is the GOP nominee.
Check out his manifester:

I thought it was Kenny T. G. with the t representing the. Is Kenny related to Warren G? If he is, does that mean he will regulate?
I was interested in “Moosylvania”, myself– is that some sort of Alaskan subtitle, much as Rhode Island is really “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations?”
Good news for you Palin Haters:

Surprise: Sarah Palin’s Ratings Rise
Yep that’s me. Keep those DialyKOS pollsters. Anybody who thinks a DailyKOS pollster is credible when polling Gov Palin is smoking some strong Angel Dust.
Good grief: Rather than spending so much time worrying about Gov Palin, you should focus your energies on helping the community organizer, part time senator currently masquerading as President. I believe hsi name is Obombi.
Hey smooth jazz,
I didn’t bother reading your linky-thing, what with you and math not getting along too swell.
I hear (through some pretty slick Hollywood contacts) that you’re directing the new instant smash hit reality show “Over The Bus, LOL” starring you and your Bed-Stuy homies. What can we expect in Season 1?
smooth? Remember “preview” is your friend, as is “spell check”, which will catch little mishaps like “hsi”. You left lots and lots of questions unanswered from your last visit. We were worried about you…….
Smooth Jazz writes: Good news for you Palin Haters
Oh, come on, SJ, nobody hates Sarah Palin. I can’t speak for everyone, but I think I’m far from alone in just thinking she’s very silly, and wondering why anyone would want her to be in a position of responsibility, given her clear record, expressed in video and print.
That’s fair, isn’t it?
Palin is a hater’s best role model.
Lying, grifting, slandering is what she does. She’s inspires hatred, spreads hatred, and invites hatred. Like Glenn Beck.
Off topic, but…I know Roy Ayers plays keyboards, but does he play them often enough to be anybody’s favorite keyboardist? I meant to ask you that question the first(?) time you posted here, but I didn’t get around to it.
(Do California beaches know this degree of seasonal variation?)
Yes, in the fall/winter pretty much anything north of Santa Barbara isn’t going to be as active because of the cold, especially the Santa Cruz boardwalk.
Also, there’s a lot less swimming off the beach even in the summertime, due to rip currents or the undertow. My college girlfriend from Oakland, NJ, almost got taken away by it when she was on the beach here on the West Coast for the first time.
Let’s see. Palin’s viewership dropped by 40% the second week, so she had 60% of her viewership left. The third week that went up by 17%: 60 x 1.17 = 70, so in her third week she had 30% fewer viewers than in her first week. Triumph! Knowing that, does anyone want to estimate the size of her audience by the week she up and quits?
Snowbilly Snooki?!?? A definite cut, if not the unkindest cut. They’re probably already warming up (cooling down?) your cell at the “relocation camp” (thanks, KBR!) outside Fairbanks right now.
