Barack Obama is walking down the street when he looks in a neighbors garage and sees an old rusty push mower. Knocking on the door, he is surprised to see that it’s John Boehner’s house.
“Hey John. I couldn’t help but notice that fine lawnmower in your garage. How much do you want for it?”
“Well I wasn’t planning on selling it, but I guess I’d let it go for $20.”
Obama thinks about it for a moment. “Okay I’ll give you $25.”
“But I said I’d sell it to you for $20.”
Obama looks away, calculating in his head. “Okay. You got me. $30.”
“But….but…”
Obama smiles. “You drive a hard bargain, John. But $35 is as high as I’m going to go.”
Boehner, now even more confused, “Seriously. I wasn’t gong to sell it, but $20 is more than fair for it. It’s rusty and the blades need sharpening and one of the wheels is wobbly and falls off every once in awhile.”
Seeing an opening, Obama replies. “Fine. Let’s compromise. $38.”
Shrugging his shoulders, Boehner says “Okay. Fine. Whatever. $38. Take her away” and Obama hands Boehner two crisp twenty dollar bills and starts pushing the creaking mower down the street.
Looking up from the two twenties in his hand, Boehner calls out, “Wait. I owe you two dollars.”
A smiling Obama looks over his shoulder and waves. “That’s alright. You can keep the change.”

Wait. Are you saying Obama is a moran?
That couldn’t be, because anyone can see that lawnmower is going to be worth $42… as an antique…in 2110.
Groveling bipartisanship has it’s price.
Yeh, but won’t that just guarantee that Orange Doucheous will be much more cooperative in the next negotiations for the rusty hedge clippers?
Genius we can believe in.
I know this didn’t happen – Obama got the mower.
I really do hope it doesn’t go down that way….after two years of trying to make nice and getting smacked around for it, I think a lot of progressives/libs are hoping for more spine this time ’round. I dunno…. I reckon we’ll see. the sheeple want more (*barfs*) bipartisanship but since when to the ‘Pubs listen to the folks they supposedly represent, or reality on this planet for that matter.
Then Boehner goes back inside and fires off an email to Fox News reading “HELP! A BLACK PANTHER JUST STOLE MY LAWN MOWER!”
Oh, the spine will show up just like it always does for Democrats–in the lame duck session.
Doubtful. This session seems more lame than previous.
Now if that blackmuslimjihadiwikileaker-in-chief would have spotted a birth certificate in Boner’s gayrodge…..
sure seems that way. the Prez has already caved on federal pay which is, apparently, all for show. fer cryin’ out loud, ain’t none of these folks can take a stand for something that, you know, actually matters?
Good story. It’s actually much worse than that though.
Here’s what I would add: I’d say that the lawnmower was one designed by Boehner, specifically made with tube and tire wheels, but ones that have pinholes in them, so that the wheels become deflated as you use it. And Boehner says “This is my own design! It will make the lawnmower go faster, really rev up the task of cutting the lawn!”
So Obama goes back and consults with some mechanics and inventors, four of whom say “That’s crazy” and one of whom says “Yes, that’s brilliant! Buy it!”
So Obama buys it, just the way you described.
Then, two years later, in addition to being out the extra 20 bucks, after mowing with flat tires for two years Obama’s left with a lawn that’s overgrown and unkempt, really a mess. Everyone walking by says “Oh yeah, that guy. Word is that he just doesn’t know how to mow very well. Old man Boehner down the road says it’s because Obama’s wheels were too inflated. Shrug, probably right, I guess”. And everyone votes for Boehner instead of Obama. The end.
Yes, the federal pay freeze WAS all for show. Unfortunately, it has real world impact on the people and families who depend on that pay, and on the neighborhoods, businesses, extended families, and organizations who benefit from their trade. As others have pointed out elsewhere, most federal employees are lower-to-middle-level workers who live all across the country. If we’re going to be treated to empty gestures, he should have started with slashing the pay of all elected and appointed officials, a permanent freeze on their income, elimination of their benefits and perks, and removal of the Obama family and all future presidents from the White House to an apartment that won’t take pets. Let’s see how much interested they remain in serving the public interest when there’s no more money in it.
You forgot the part where Obama cuts Boehner’s lawn for him.
I had no idea “Obama” was Swahili for “One-term.”
I don’t get it . . . why would he pay $40 if he could get it for $20, oh, I see, he’s a lousy negotiator.
I’ll stick up for Obama. First, there’s no negotiating with the Republicans. Your example would be better if Obama offered him what he was asking for the lawn mower only to have Boner chase him off his yard with a shotgun while hurling racial epithets.
Second, I’m sure this is an idea that polls well and the Republicans would have used it to club Obama over the head while refusing to negotiate.
Third, it does save $5 billion, which sounds like a lot of money to most people.
Fourth, it is a little unfair to government workers, but giving up COLA increases in a time of near 0% inflation isn’t a huge sacrifice.
“First, there’s no negotiating with the Republicans.” — You may want to break that gently to Sir Change-a-Lot; it’s the one thing he’s been hell-bent on doing ever since his Democratic constituents voted him into office. Since then, we haven’t seen or heard much to him or his Big Change (and whenever we’ve dared to ask, we’ve been told to grow up and stop getting stoned), but the Rethugs (and their fellow travelers in the Democratic Party) seem to have unfettered access and first dibs on writing and rewriting policy. Funny, that. And best of all: for the first two years of his term, he didn’t actually have to negotiate with the Republicans, but he just couldn’t help himself…
Of course, in a short few months Obama is going to proudly flash his new lawnmower and ask us all to vote for him again… and Tbogg and others will tell us to suck it up and not be delusional; but damn, it’ll be a tough sell.
Right, and now they’ll be forced to say “Great move, curses on him for making it so we can’t criticize him anymore!”
I don’t understand how people misunderstand this, but it seems to be something that the White House can’t grasp either: No matter what you compromise on, they will never acknowledge it, or let up for even a second on the screaming about how you’re “ruining the country!”.
Bargaining away health care reform measures didn’t stop them from doing it. After getting all of the compromises, the Republicans screamed that Obama was a Socialist. And won back the House.
And on your third point, saving $5 billion while cutting off one of the few, easy, and utterly deservable ways of putting more money in people’s pockets, thus creating demand, which can have far greater effect that than paltry savings- it’s absurd. Even Obama most likely knows this. Thus TBogg’s point. It was a bargain, it’s just that it’s going to cause more damage than just the bad deal itself.
Et tu, Bogg-te?
Yeah, there’s nothing more back-stabby than pointing out the knife in your own back.
My condolences, Bonky. I guess it’s getting a bit lonely out there in the once-so-crowded “Obama’s My Man” club house, huh? Maybe — just maybe — if his decision making and actual politicking didn’t, you know, consistently suck so badly, we would still love him for being the cool, suave guy with the tremendous potential and charisma that he once was.
Yes, we’ll still take him over anybody that the GOP could dish up, and because tbogg will always threaten us with the scolding Mumia T-shirt posting if we get uppity and rebellious, the D-of-the-day may always count on our vote. But other than that? To quote Bill the Cat: Ack Thtbbft!
…And the following week on the Sunday morning “talking heads” roundtable, Boehner cites this as a prime example of “tax and spend” Democrat fiscal policy.
No, the spine will show up like it always does–when Obama turns to the Democratic base (including all of the Federal employees he just screwed over) and tells us all to STFU because we’re “the professional left” and our extreme socialist agenda is what’s hurting his re-election chances.
Great Flying Spaghetti Monster, but it sure is hard to support my own party when all I hear from them for the last 25 years is constant capitulation before the fight even begins, followed by “the adults” telling me not to complain because it could have been worse. FUCK!
Tbogg’s posts don’t usually make me feel like crying.
Good one Uncle Kvetch.
Obama is too much in love with his self-image of being a transcendent uniting figure. The Republicans really, really hate him? Then courting them in every way will be the main focus of the rest of his term.
He will win them over. But only once he’s safely out of office.
BUTT! It’s Our MONEY!!
Ha! Who’s the purity troll now? I’m vewy vewy sorry that you didn’t get a unicorn or a pony..
Now grow the F up and support your President lest you cause Palin next time!

The lawnmower blades are infected with insects & fungus & it kills O’s lawn.
Anyhoo, I’m getting rid of some hand & power tools that have been in my basement in the nearly 24 years since my husband died & I haven’t touched them once. I’m giving them away to anyone who wants them, but for O, they’re $50 apiece.
So you’ve come down on the incompetent side of incompetent or corrupt. Me I don’t feel the need to make those kind of choices any more. Glad to see you were able to find a clue.
Then you’ll prolly get $100 apiece- EXCELLENT!
Just perhaps it’d be mo better and mo fair to have people making over $250,000 have their tax cuts expire.
That would be hilarious, if it wasn’t so spot on.
When the money is coming out of the Left pocket and into the Right pocket and then back again what difference does it make to them? We, us working stiffs down here on the bottom, aren’t even a part of their game. Peace
Similar thought here: I’d laugh if it wasn’t so sad.
True story. I have an excavator at my house resurfacing my gravel driveway and putting in a curtain drain on the uphill side, the one away from the house. I was soo depressed this morning, including dreary weather with drizzle starting around 2p, that I decided I should be punished by cleaning shit out of my basement. So I brought these tools upstairs, wiped 24 years of grit off them, told the excavator of their availability. He came into the kitchen at the end of the day, and asked how much I wanted for a couple of them. I was astonished. It never occurred to me to ask anyone to pay for something so old. I was really grateful that he took a couple of them away. Hopefully I can give the rest away to other acquaintances & friends. Otherwise off to Good Will.
But you still support him, right? (Of course you do.)
Wake up. Obama isn’t negotiating with Republicans. Obama is selling out Democrats. Because Obama, in his heart of hearts (and regardless of party label) is a moderate (by current standards) Republican.
Who is the ‘you’ in your comment, since you didn’t hit response? Surely not the FDL community, which is one of the few leftie sites to diss him early on.
That’s odd, smooth jazz just popped up on the previous comment thread and he’s talking about “good angel dust” or some crazy Kenny J G shit….
Wonderful TBogg! Great satire.
Spot on!
Satire I thought it was 100% true?
I posted it to my FB page. I wonder how long it will take until the attacks start?
Yeah we were dissing him before Healthcare became an issue. We come up with better disses than the GOP does because we use facts and they lie.
Thats why our Lefty ideas never get mentioned in the Press.:)
The most perfect explication of his “strategy” that I’ve seen anywhere. I think I’ll go off now and put my head in the oven…
I can’t remember. Is Boner rich enough to benefit from O’s generosity? IIRC, the only income category whose income rose last year were those EARNING (not assets of) over $52 million/year. If Boner isn’t in the $52+ million income category, O won’t buy his lawnmower with U.S. taxpayer money for multiple times what it’s worth.
Obama-The Gift That Keeps On Giving
But then, who will sacrifice herself to read the op-eds in the NYT for us and provide us with those delicious breakfasts. Please reconsider.
Besides, on a personal note, who else could have ‘splained to me why the church in Savannah called themselves Anglicans, not Episcopalians. You can’t imagine how many times I’ve told that story and how many peeps have enjoyed it. Marion, you are unknowingly famous beyond your wildest imagination.
Oh I would love to hear that story!
KO just mocked lit the Rock Center Xmas tree. I once watched it from the 38th floor of Tower 49, where my office was at the time. Literally, if you blinked you missed it. Why you would want to be crowded among thousands on the street (esp tonight with a cold rain) to watch it, is one of the more profound human mysteries in my lifetime.
Thanks for talking me down! (Well, it is an electric oven and I didn’t turn it on…!)
Obama is a Republican he just can’t convince the Republicans yet. But, I’m sure after he does everything they want they probably will allow him to quit without Impeaching him. On second thought , maybe not.
That’s the best kind of satire.
Just ’cause O would eagerly pay $40 for a $20 piece of crap, that wouldn’t stop Boehner from putting a nail in the tire just for spite.
Obama the hapless sap!
Boehner would not consistently insist on paying $20.
So it was April, perhaps 2007 (Marion, correct my year if I’ve got it wrong). A friend & I were visiting Savannah for the historic house & garden tour. I was a FDL newbie, but had contacted Marion to arrange to have cocktails during our 4-day stay. The H&G tour was 75 years old, started by the church as a fundraiser. So the opening event was punch & cookies in the square in front of the 1820s church building, followed by a short, mostly musical, service in the church. As I wanted to listen to the organ postlude, we were among the last to leave. Shaking hands with the minister, I asked if I could ask him why he and the literature referred to the church as Anglican, not Episcopalian. I expected he’d say something about how the history of the parish predated the revolution, or sumptin. He responded with some gobbeldygook which I did not understand, so I thanked him & we left.
An evening or so later when Marion & Mr. Marion & me & my travel companion met for cocktails, I asked her WTF was going on. Marion ROTFLAO, and ‘splained that it was all about ordination of gays. The anti-gay Savannah church had gone with Ugandan Anglican bishopric, but the minister was too embarrassed about his bigotry to tell me about it in simple declarative sentences in words of one syllable.
eCAHN, might there be other working people out there who could use the tools? Maybe running an ad somewhere or posting a flyer?
I’m just trying to think of a “communal” way to deal with your issue.
Peace.
Happy to hear it was just brinksmanship on your part, and good “diplomacy” on my part that saved you. After all, I could have threatened to bomb you for your own good.
i love B Sanders
soon baby soon,he is working on it
Let us know, msmolly. We’ve got your back. {And I’d love to know what the response is.]
Friends will be asked first. Then, as I said, off to Good Will, or some other charity. Think that’s good enough. Think the tools are too old for people who would use them in their trade. More likely weekend warrior kind of tools.
and this holiday season and the Bush tax cuts are making sociopaths of my immediate family,im losing it
You nailed it, friend!
I bet the republicans think he is the dumbest fkr they have seen in awhile. What makes it funny is he thinks he is so damn smart but he really is lacking street smarts in a serious way. He is no match for the republicans and they know it. They both come out of the same meeting and he is in a cheerful mood chirping about how they are going to get along. They come out of the meeting and say nothing of the sort. I mean WTF- he cant be this stupid can he?
See, I told you you were famous beyond your wildest imagination. I’ve told that story to scores of people who’ve gained insight from it just as much as I did from innocently plopping myself into the middle of a cultural controversy. Doing that is one of my more ‘endearing’ qualities. (Some would beg to differ about my endearingness, but that’s another issue.)
I have a couple of rightwing evangelical friends, a couple who claim to be Libertarian or Federalist, and some otherwise rather liberal relatives who think my dislike of Obama that goes back nearly to his election makes me a left-wingnut. We shall see if anyone comments at all…
Not me, and not Peter!
eCahn, do you have ReStores anywhere near you? Those are run by, and to benefit, Habitat for Humanity, and they take donations of even such things as partially used paint (they like a gallon can to be at least half full). I’d bet they would take your old tools gladly.
On edit: I gave them knobs and drawer pulls that I replaced in my kitchen and two bathrooms, including all of the associated screws. Also some partial rolls of wallpaper, and a LOT of old (but working) light bulbs (for example, circular fluorescent bulbs for a fixture in a previous house).
Are the bee girls all asleep now? Because it’s been in the 60s around here I keep forgetting how cold it must be up where you are…
Luv you two too. (((Marion & Peter))
Do you remember that Ted passed away, 12/24/07 or 08?
He’ll give you $60 each.
Oh that is hysterical. Ashamed, was he? At least he had the self-knowledge to BE ashamed. ROTFLMAO.
I remember you telling me, but I had forgotten that it was Christmas Eve. We very much enjoyed meeting him — just during the brief visit we had his fierce intellect shone through.
I don’t know.
So many people I actually know who can use the stuff I need to get rid of, I haven’t checked sites where it could be used by those in need so thanks msmolly & everyone for the suggestions.
As I upgraded the furniture in the house, I gave all the used stuff we started with to my cleaning lady who gave it to her children who were growing up & starting their own households. I can’t tell you how many dividends that ‘charity’ has paid back, as Debbie has taken care of me & my house for over 20 years now. Wow. I am so blessed.
Conservative though he was, he was quick to perceive the nutzoid tract of the Rs and had many sensible ideas.
He did remark of you & Peter afterward how ‘liberal’ you were. I just acknowledged and we went on to other topics. As I typed to my hunter friend about vegetarians earlier today: Why can’t the farmers & the cowboys just be friends?
Cast your bread upon the waters and it will return to you ten-fold.
Well, I’ve always been the “DFH,” much more than Peter. I’ve managed to drag him a ways along the road, but he still has odd conservative bumps that still need to be sanded off!
I had driven by a ReStore on my way out of — and into — town but never knew what it was. Turns out there was another one closer to my house where I took the stuff. They take just about any household maintenance/upkeep item, so I am guessing they’d take tools. You might use teh gooogle to see if there are any not too far from you. I think you could take a tax deduction for the donation too (at least, I plan to).
This story should go right up there on the shelf with the hysterical one Matt Taibbi told about David Gergen on Saturday.
Call me Pollyanna, or call me a longtime TBogg reader, but I’m still waiting for the punchline.
With this one it’s not as much a punchline as a punch in the gut…
You forgot the part where Obama then mows down the middle class.
The problem with this analogy is that it tries to show Obama “caving” to the GOP. Obama isn’t giving in, “overcompromising”….he agrees with the GOP. His problem is how to get the GOP policy without leaving his fingerprints on it, or how to spin it that the GOP compromise was the best he could do. HIS HANDS ARE TIED, folks! Congress! Whattyagonnado?!
Anyone still sticking up for Obama has some sort of strange affliction. They a blind to reality. Really. If you find yourself still protecting Obama, do us all a favor and get yourself some help.
Actually this is not as good and concise as something I found elsewhere and have refined a bit, to wit, someone please stop Obama before he orders his staff to prepare the Articles of The Impeachment of Barak Hussein Obama so that he can give the document as a gift to Speaker Boehner on the occasion of his swearing in ceremony.
Put that post in a letter and mail it to the Whitehouse.
I’m presently wondering what would possess Obama to not only cave on the non-nuke proliferation treaty with Russia but decide to agree to the manufacture of 80 new nukes every year. I can’t figure the guy out.
On the way home, Obama passes Dennis Kucinich walking the other way.
“What kind of unrealistic contraption are you pushing around, now?” Obama asks. Before Kucinich can answer, he adds, “You know, Dennis, you really ought to act the way ordinary people do.”
“Actually, it’s a solar-powered lawn mower,” Kucinich replies.
“Really? It must have cost you a bundle.” Obama says. “I’ll never be able get one of those. I have to sacrifice like everyone else, at least in public. You should think about being more thrifty, Dennis.”
“17.99,” says Kucinich.
This story should end with Boner keeping the $40 then refusing to give Obama the lawnmower.
Later we find out that the rich guy Obama and Boner both work for told Obama to give Boner $40, but to “make it look like you’re buying something” to fool the neighbors.
Having mowed my natal family’s (big) lawn with one of those things when I was a teenager, I’m a true believer in electric mowers — else, let it go to meadow, or get a goat.
What to do with all those old and rusting tools? (I’ve got sets from my own side and my husband’s, of just about everything.) Tag sale! (Garage sale, whatever you call it where you are. Tag sale in New England.) Then they can rust some more in somebody else’s basement or shed, you have a few bucks you didn’t have before, and you feel virtuous (“somebody who can use it” or “somebody who will appreciate it” has it now). We’re gearing up for a tag sale this summer. (We’re beyond the point of just passing some things on to a local church or other organization for its tag sale, but that’s an option others might try.)
Getting rid of old tools. How did Obama get so old so fast?
Others have added their two cents but I’ll add mine… President Empty Suit would appoint a committee of ex-Goldman Sachs crooks to negotiate a bipartisan fee for the mower, because he doesn’t want to get his hands dirty. Got to stay above the fray. They would settle on Empty Suit’s entire savings, and then take it and give it to their cronies and take the mower to the salvage yard. Then Boner punches Empty Suit in the face and Empty Suit apologizes for getting in his way. Does this sound about right?
WHAT IN GOD’S NAME HAPPENED TO OUR COUNTRY THAT THIS WAS THE BEST WE COULD PUT IN THE WHITE HOUSE???
Absurdist farces don’t usually have punch lines. See Ionesco.
You forgot the part where Barry says: “Gee, I’m sorry I can’t give you $52million, but I gave it to the Vice President of Afghanistan.”
Or was he talking to the American unemployed when he said that.
That’s exactly how Obama negotiated on HCR, except he paid $1000 and then lied and told the American people he got it for $5.
You really fooled me! I thought this might be a story about Barack Obama buying an actual lawnmower like the one you showed in the photo. That would impress me: That he wants everyone to follow his example and stop causing Global Warming with lawnmowers: This one’s not electric, and needs no gasoline. Lawnmowers are terrible gasoline wasters, but they can also run on alcohol, which they would still waste, but at least that wouldn’t cause any GL0Warm.
Good piece.
If Barry is using our tax dollars to buy this lawnmower so that our boys and girls in uniform can use it to mow the lawn at our gigantic embassy in Kabul, then this story makes perfect sense to me.
http://original.antiwar.com/engelhardt/2010/11/14/the-stimulus-package-in-kabul/
Yeah. But he didn’t have a choice. Boner *made* him buy it, see?
stewartm
You know, that’s where I am also. At first, I thought Obama would turn out to be a pretty good Democratic president. I wouldn’t agree with everything he did, but okay…Then he seemed to be a moderate Republican President, but that’s not quite right either. But now I’m thinking he doesn’t really stand for anything, there’s no consistency, there’s no there there, if you will.
Could it be that he’s just incompetent? Or that he’s afraid? Bush II was both, but at least you knew what you were getting.
Just once, just once, I’d like to hear Obama say something definitive, unequivocal, about what he believes and for which he will fight: “We must let the Bush tax cuts for those making over $250,000 a year expire. They serve no utility in the current economy, and actually hurt our country. This is where I stand. I have asked Speaker Pelosi to schedule a final vote on the matter during this lame duck session so we can put this matter to rest.”
Yeah, I’m a dreamer, but I hope I’m not the only one.
Now Obama will decide we don’t need a lawn mower after all. We’ll let goats do the work. Oh, and Boehner rents goats!
“I say, ‘How much you want for that?’ I go into the store
“The man says, ‘Three dollars.’ ‘All right,’ I say, ‘Will you take four?’
“Poor boy—never say die
Things will be all right by and by…” Dylan, “Po’ Boy”, Love & Theft
Obama is po’boying us to death. Wouldn’t be so bad–except it’s OUR country he’s destroying by continuing the Reagan-Bush-Clinton-Bush insanity.
DAMN I wish a real Democrat would run in 2012. Russ, whatcha doin’ that year? Grayson? Anybody??
Wow. What a fantastically illuminating thread. So you want “definitive” and “unequivocal?” How about this from yesterday:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/11/30/president-obama-dod-report-don-t-ask-don-t-tell
He makes these kinds of statements and takes these kinds of actions quite often….you just don’t ever hear about them.
Oh, and lookee here…more from just yesterday…in one freakin day we have these also, too, as well:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/11/30/turning-page-discrimination-usda
But, but, but…Shirley Sherrod!11!!…or something…
And more of those pesky campaign promises…getting fulfilled once again…and also too just yesterday:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/11/30/fulfilling-our-promise-indian-country
Do y’all who fill up these threads with the exact same comments day after day, for years now, ever find it odd that the majority of your comments about Obama are interchangeable with comments at Repub sites and mirror the words of Grandma Grifter? Interesting…
Wow, Bonk, thanks for the fantastically illuminating response. Those links you provided to the White House really changed my mind about Obama. I mean, statements from the White House! Wow! Next thing you know, he’ll give a speech reaffirming his commitment to, uh, something.
C’mon, man, I’m not an Obama hater, nor an Obamabot. You may be frustrated with the tone of these threads but I don’t see anything about calling Obama a socialist, or a facist, or attacking Michelle for her anti-obesity campaign.
I’m not naive, I know change comes slow, very slow. Abolishing DADT and righting past wrongs is important, I understand Obama is making structural changes in the federal government that don’t yield short-term political gains, but do make a positive long-term change in people’s lives. I also get that Obama is “the President of all Americans” but sooner or later he’s going to have to tell some of those Americans that they’re wrong about something.
…is what you said. I link to him doing exactly that, just yesterday, on a really contentious issue, and Obama now even has Gates and Chair of JCoS leading the repeal, and yet you continue with your storyline. And on a thread that started with mocking his negotiating skills no less.
Did you read the links, since they’re not just “statements?” The White House, just in one day, yesterday, got agreements on two other really charged issues that have been lingering for many years. Nearly every day, the Obama Admin is doing all kinds of things that supposed “true progressives” rail on and on about that he “should be” doing. It’s just bizarre now, how so many self-described “Liberals” refuse to acknowledge simple facts that refute their dominant themes.
I try periodically, but I’ve clearly learned again this is a complete waste of my time.
What long term changes that won’t be wiped away by the first republican president who gets elected?
Tell me is the United States Government still defending DADT and DOMA in the courts. And did this start under Obama’s watch?
He has the ability to say one thing and do another and his followers have the amazing ability to simply listen to what he says and ignore what he does.
Has he decided to “compromise” with the republicans concerning tax cuts for income over $250,000.00?
Did he promised to fix FISA after voting for it and did he reneag on that promise? Did he promise not to make secret deals with the industry for HCR and did he then do just that? Did he not do anything to prevent banks from making back all their money while at the same time prevent any real fix of the mortgage crisis?
In case you are wondering the one answer to all the above questions is yes.
Glad I could be helpful.
Well, you, and most everyone else in this thread, have just sold me a Yawnmower. Toodle-ooo!
Well, DADT will eventually be repealed. A Republican President won’t waste time going after that. Gay marriage, on the other hand, is a much more productive culture war issue for the Rs.
tbogg finally stops sipping the obot-aid – he was one of the last hold outs.
so who does that leave? booman?
I was thinking the same thing. It was only yesterday that we who criticized the president for being weak and endlessly compromising were being scolded.
Obama’s a nice guy. A decent guy. I’m 100% sure he’s a liberal, but his one big failing is wanting to be liked by everyone, even bullies and psychopaths.
He’s essentially become a collaborator. It’s a damn shame.
