Shorter Greg Mankiw:
Dear Barack Obama: The easiest way to get along with Republicans is to become a Republican. You should do that.
Thank goodness the tax rates didn’t change or we would have been denied Mankiw’s astute observations.

Couldn’t they make an exception and raise taxes just for him?
A surgical tax strike, as it were.
Jeeeezus you just dont understand the free market. Economists can whore themselves out like everybody else to teh highest billionaire. But nooooo you exspect them wank off to socialist fantasies in sum ivory tower fer tenured pennies. sheesh
…interesting pop-up ad – offering a US green card, one year FREE! (hmmm…think I’ll pass, local neoliberal bozos notwithstanding)
Greg Mankiw needs to choke to death on a bag of salted dicks.
Obama effectively became a Republican shortly after taking office. It hasn’t helped him.
Fixxored for New Year’s Hope…
Mankiw’s suggestions, in order:
-Forget about jobs and work on lowering debt
-Cut taxes on the wealthy
-No, seriously, cut taxes on the wealthy
-Fire some teachers
-Make more Republican friends
I’d never have guessed that he worked for George W. Bush.
Oh, knock it off. You can spread that bullshit over any other FDL blog you want, but leave this one alone.
KillSmiley,
He jacked up the war in Afghanistan, has no intention of closing Guantanamo and we are still in Iraq. He came out in favor offshore drilling. His so-called health care plan was basically a trough for insurance companies to feed on. Instead of investigating war crimes, he has protected Bush and Cheney at every turn. He wants to put the Wikileaks guy on trial. He gave large bankers, who should be in jail after looting the treasury, billions of dollars to continue their looting and has hired some of these crooks to help him run the economy into the ground. He has continued the tax cuts for the wealthy. That’s just off the top of my head. By the way, is there something special about this blog that we can’t say anything bad about Obama? Obama sucks!t
Ahhh, Mankiw. Another Randian who has never done an honest days work in his life, telling us we’re all slackers. And if we don’t believe him, well, then you must be Karl Marx!
Mankiw once said that outsourcing jobs was good for Americans, all the while trying to tell us that grilling Whoppers was actually a manufacturing job.
This Bud’s for you Dr. Mankiw. It’s brilliant rightwing minds like your’s that have put us where we are today.
Not at all, but we like to have a rockin’ good time around these parts and you’re killin’ the funbuzz.
My 2nd New Year’s resolution (TBogg shot my #1 resolution to shit yesterday by making me watch Shakira’s ass) was to avoid funbbuzz-killers and now I can cross that fucker off the list too!
2 down!
Gunsbeforebutter,
So you mean I should be like Nero and just play the fiddle? Okay, Obama doesn’t suck. He’s really, really, really great and that Mankiw totally sucks! How’s that? Fuck Mankiw! Hooray Obama!
Screw that. Even our gracious host has rolled up the sleeves of his “Free Mumia” sweatshirt and taken some rather pointed jabs at Sir Change-a-Lot over the past few months. He’s not the messiah (“he’s a very naughty boy“), and even though he’s had lots and lots of overqualified help from ass-hats like Rahm Emanuel, much of the pickle we’re in right now is of his own making. His pathetic attempts at bi-partisanship were key to the rapid realization among the great unwashed masses that their demi-god with the big mo and the big plans was really nothing more than a deeply reactionary pay-to-play preserver of the status quo.
To read Mankiw “advise” the hippie-punching serial fellater of every GOP operative from the Boehner-boy to Eric Cantor to be more bi-partisan is really quite hilarious, and it does beg the question: how on earth could he do more to be dismissive of his own base and appease the tea-bagging nation (who hate him unconditionally) than he already has? Other than officially switching parties and become the moderate Republican he really seems to be at heart?
Didn’t you get the “Fun-Buzzkill” memo, you fucking killjoy. We are now in groupthink mode like the Republicans. Obama Rules! Fuck Mankiw!
I think we’re just looking for a dash-o-snark (bag-o-salted-dicks anyone? Or look at TW@13!) to help the gloom slide down easier….
OT, but JuiceBoxJesus is tearing it up today. 99 yards passing at this point! He’ll end the season as a loser, but at least he’s succeeding in dragging Denver’s offense back to college-style. Break a leg Timmy! Or blow your wad! Whatever, because it’s doubtful your next coach will let you play QB….
No KS you knock it off. Barry One-Term has governed as a moderate Republican, a currently extinct breed. Bankers doing fine, working stiffs starving in the cold. Take off the blinders, throw away the rest of that jug of Kool-Aid and look at this guy’s positions and actions. Stopping holding on to that rhetoric that got you all starry-eyed and look at this Wall St/MIC thug in the cold light of our hollowed-out economy and dying middle class. Smiling Dog ain’t buying this stinking load of crap and neither am I.
The best part is the “Think at the margin” part, where Mankiw actually claims that giving tax cuts or credits to lower brackets is actually tantamount to increasing taxes on the rich. He’s specifically complaining about the phase-out of Making Work Pay between $75k-90k incomes. Greg Mankiw thinks that people will stop working once they’re making $75,000 in order to keep a $400 tax credit.
In fact, the logical conclusion of what Mankiw is arguing is that the most ‘productive’ tax scheme would be one in which each dollar is taxed less than the last — perhaps a 0% bracket starting at $500,000?
Is Cheezburger your home page? P.S. You spelled soshulist rong.
tbagga is parody. Always has been.
Then in the words of Emily L., never mind.
Would someone post the FAQ for the comments/topics that are permitted here? I would hate to distress anyone and get myself banned.
KillSmiley summed up the arguments at 7. What’s sad is that Mankiw is considered “reasonable” by conservative standards these days, and given how insane conservatives are, that’s probably accurate – yet jeez, he’s an asshole.
