And I wouldn’t for a moment argue that she needs to be shut up — that’s not how we do things around here. But nobody should be giving her a megaphone or go about validating her insane opinions, because that may lead pot smoking gun owners like Jared to act out on their schizoid notions… If she were called out as a the deranged, hateful bitch that she is, maybe, just maybe, the voices in Jared’s head would have said, “hey, she’s a nutjob just like me.”

Sure, everyone is a potential killer if you look at it the wrong way (that’s why we should all be very, very afraid and let Big Brother snoop everywhere), but the insane leap of faith that “it was hit pot smoking that did it” is unhinged.

well, if I recall (and I’m not positive I do completely) when I was seriously smoking weed, I don’t think I had the energy to go out and waste people. My energy was mostly taken up watching reruns of Green Acres.

However, to be serious for a minute can Frum be more of an asshole? I would guess the answer is probably yes, since these people (you know who I mean) always seem to find a way to be more of a jerk tomorrow than the were yesterday. Would that this ability was put to some kind of positive use.

The Tucson shooting should remind us why we regulate marijuana.

What is he even saying? Some small study in France that doesn’t even seem to say what he thinks it says supplies all the evidence we need for continuing overly harsh drug laws while we ignore far more likely culprits like easy access to guns, over the top violent rhetoric, and shortage of decent mental health care?

Rightwing words have no effect on the world whatsoever, but leftwing words can destroy the world. Given that dynamic, I do not know why Frum doesn’t just shut the fuck up since his words will obviously have no impact.

I read “The Birthday Party” by Stanley Alpert. He was a US Attorney who was kidnapped by thugs in New York City and held for a couple of days. Those in charge of watching him spent their time smoking marijuana. Alpert said it made them calm and relaxed. He wondered if he would have survived it they’d been smoking crack or even just drinking. He decided that if he got out alive, he’d make a big donation to NORML. He thinks marijuana saved his life.

Maybe Frum should read this book.

PS–My mother had late-onset schizophrenia and she never smoked a joint in her life. Probably never even saw one. After she got sick, however, she did take up drinking with a pretty heavy hand.

Frum is one of the cautious sorts who thinks we shouldn’t do anything about massive incarceration for possession until more facts are in. No, not those exculpatory facts. Those don’t count.
