Elizabeth Scalia, who dons a mask and wimple whenever the Pope calls upon her to use her Super-Judgmental Powers as Anchoress Woman, is very displeased with the secular mainstream Godless heathen gonna-burn-in-hell media because they have not covered the Kermit Gosnell story to her satisfaction, and by her “satisfaction” she means they have not run enough editorials advocating the stoning of abortionists and the shunning of the whores who would kill their babies. Sayeth, the Anchoress:
The mainstream media, confronted with a house of horrors that was gestated and born of a single-minded mania for “protecting choice for women” had no choice but to report on Gosnell being charged for the murder of one woman who died while under his dubious “care” (another woman’s death had been “settled” for a financial consideration), and they mush-mouthed their way through his killing of at least seven living, viable babies, but they did not like this story.
They did not want to discuss that authorities had repeatedly received reports of Gosnell’s mayhem and had chosen to look the other way. They did not want to have to mention that Gosnell’s disgusting, “third-world” abortion mill—a place where women were abused, manhandled, disrespected, over-sedated, punctured, infected, sterilized, interiorly ripped, and otherwise treated like pieces of meat—would still be running, unimpeded, were it not for an investigation into illegal drug trafficking.
Well, no and no and no and no…
DA: Pa. abortion doc killed 7 babies with scissors
In a nearly 300-page grand jury report filled with ghastly, stomach-turning detail, prosecutors said Pennsylvania regulators ignored complaints of barbaric conditions at Gosnell’s clinic, which catered to poor, immigrant and minority women in the city’s impoverished West Philadelphia section.
Prosecutors called the case a “complete regulatory collapse.”
“Pennsylvania is not a Third World country,” the district attorney’s office declared in the report. “There were several oversight agencies that stumbled upon and should have shut down Kermit Gosnell long ago.”
Doctor Is Charged in Killing of Newborns
Prosecutors charged Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, with eight counts of murder in the deaths of Karnamaya Mongar, 41, a refugee from Nepal, who received high doses of anesthetic for an illegal late-term abortion performed in 2009 and of seven infants who were born, killed and then disposed of in Dr. Gosnell’s West Philadelphia clinic, the Women’s Medical Society.
Prosecutors laid out their case in a 281-page grand jury document that read like a grisly script. Plastic bags and mineral water bottles holding aborted fetuses were found stashed in Dr. Gosnell’s clinic. Jars containing the severed feet of babies lined a shelf, the Philadelphia district attorney, Seth Williams, said in a statement.
Squalid Abortion Clinic Escaped State Oversight
The clinic had as little regard for the patients’ dignity as it had for their safety. The doctor would arrive late, often after 8 p.m., leaving the untrained staff, including Dr. Gosnell’s wife, Pearl, a cosmetologist, to sedate the women and administer labor-inducing drugs, the report said.
If labor began, the woman was asked to sit on a toilet, and the fetus would drop. It would be fished out later so as not to clog the plumbing, the report said. The remains of 45 fetuses were found at the clinic during the raid, according to the report. Some were stored in the staff’s refrigerator.
Ms. Thomas remembers waking up, soaked in her own blood and feeling scared. People were moving around her, trying to put her in an ambulance. Her uterus had been punctured. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was given a partial hysterectomy.
“When I woke up I thought, ‘I might die today,’ ” Ms. Thomas said. Dr. Gosnell offered her $500, she said, possibly in an effort to avert a lawsuit. She had paid $800 for the abortion.
Complaints against Dr. Gosnell date back to 1983, according to the grand jury report, but none moved state regulators to action. Some malpractice suits produced settlements that were paid by Dr. Gosnell’s insurance company, including nearly $1 million paid to the family of Semika Shaw, a 22-year-old mother of two who died from an infection in 2002 after an abortion at the clinic.
Gruesome details in report on Philadelphia abortion doctor
West Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell routinely delivered live babies in the third trimester of pregnancy, then murdered them by “sticking scissors into the back of the baby’s neck and cutting the spinal cord,” according to the Philadelphia District Attorney.
One newborn who weighed almost six pounds was so big “the doctor joked . . . this baby ‘could walk me to the bus stop.’”
Those are among the jaw-dropping details – complete with photographs – in a 260-page Grand Jury report released Wednesday that charges Gosnell, 69, with the murder of a patient and seven live infants.
The report culminates a massive, year-long investigation of Gosnell and his Lancaster Avenue clinic, which was shut down after a raid last February.
‘House of horrors’ alleged at abortion clinic
A doctor whose abortion clinic was a filthy, foul-smelling “house of horrors” that was overlooked by regulators for years was charged Wednesday with murder, accused of delivering seven babies alive and then using scissors to kill them.
Hundreds of other babies likely died in the squalid clinic that Dr. Kermit Gosnell ran from 1979 to 2010, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams said at a news conference.
“My comprehension of the English language can’t adequately describe the barbaric nature of Dr. Gosnell,” he added.
Jeremiah 5:21 -
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
Oh, sorry. That last one was for Elizabeth.
But wait, Elizabeth has more….
So, allow me to ask the impolitic question I have hinted at elsewhere: in choosing to look away, in choosing to under-report, in choosing to spin, minimize, excuse, and move-along when it comes to Kermit Gosnell—and to this whole subject of under-regulated abortion clinics, the debasement of women and the slaughter of living children—how are the press and those they protect by their silence any better than the Catholic bishops who, in decades past, looked away, under-reported, spun, minimized, excused, moved-along, and protected the repulsive predator-priests who have stolen innocence and roiled the community of faith?
Oh yay! She opened the Catholic child-rape door. Let’s see where it leads….
The press was quite right (and duty-bound) to report on the shameful failures of our bishops and the sins of our priests. They reported; they followed up. They dug through records. They sought out histories. They looked for more, because they understood that if filth existed in one diocese, it likely existed in others. They courageously did their jobs, unworried about fallout or repercussions; they were looking at a big issue, and were thus unintimidated by big names, and rightly unreserved in their outrage.
Yes…yes…
In the wake of Kermit Gosnell, however, in the wake of Andrew Rutland, Stephen Brigham, and Abu Hayat, there is no following-up, no digging through records; there is no curiosity about filthy, women-maiming, spine-snipping facilities existing in other cities; there are no big names to go to for quotes. These crimes—when they are covered at all—are treated like “local” aberrations. No one peers in at authority or examines the pro-abortion leadership. There is no one in government, apparently, to ask about criminal-neglect, lack of scrutiny; no one to accuse of mismanagement or of looking-away.
Well, I can answer that one. You see, there is no Pope of Abortion who has overseen a decades long international conspiracy to shelter and shuffle around human monsters who prey on the innocent under the guise of doing “God’s Work”. No home office. No Council of Cardinals. No Abortion Popemobile.
But if Elizabeth Scalia is really worried about poor women who are forced to go to a “disgusting, “third-world” abortion mill—a place where women were abused, manhandled, disrespected, over-sedated, punctured, infected, sterilized, interiorly ripped, and otherwise treated like pieces of meat“ (and don’t even get me started on the Magdalene asylums) she can always back a safe and supportive alternative.
Yeah, That’s not going to happen. She’d rather let the whores die and then bless their baby killing hearts.

Need I mention that the necessary state oversight didn’t exist because Republican governor Tom Ridge decreed it so? (Despite the protests of pro-choice groups?)
Well obviously he was just practicing for when we finally make abortion illegal.
As Amanda Marcotte kept saying over and over again to Mollie Ziegler Hemingway in a Bloggingheads video, “No one cares when it’s poor and minority women involved.” Besides, they should just have ‘em and put ‘em up for adoption, amirite?
Sounds like most hospitals I’ve been in.
Is she talking about an abortion mill, or a GOP Strategy Conference?
Okay, but aside from the Washington Post, the New York Times, the New York Times, the Philadelphia Enquirer, and virtually every other newspaper, what has the media ever done about reporting this story?
I think it was F Scott Fitzgerald who said that a real scam artist is one who can act like a whiny helpless victim at the same moment that she’s trying to forcefully impose her religious beliefs on everyone else.
I’m waiting for the pro-lifers to crow something along the lines of “those women who sought abortions deserved their suffering.” They must be restraining themselves.
Thanks.
hey, everybody should head over to st. liz’s site and post a comment. mine went something like, wow, thanks so much for making this stunning argument; completely turned my head around 180. how compelling the point about this wretched situation, how dangerous for the poor and underserved not to have access to safe and dignified choices. i will now forevermore take it as my Christian duty as a caring and loving citizen to see to it that i support legal avenues for this choice for the poor and underserved, “the least among us” is how i think christ would put it.
but, they have a monitor, and i daresay my comment will never show up. it would be intriguing to see just how many such comments were, um, dismissed.
Exactly. This travesty is a DIRECT RESULT of GOP deregulation ideology, and the fact is getting far too little mention in the media.
Just look at that NYT article: “Squalid Abortion Clinic Escaped State Oversight”. Money quote is in the next-to-last paragraph:
And exactly why didn’t they have authority? The NYT doesn’t say, but it’s abundantly clear: the PA GOP removed their authority.
Next up, how the GOP use this to push for malpractice tort “reform”, because removing legal recourse for the minority women just adds that bit of spicy Conservitardy goodness.
So the birth of ‘protecting choice’ should have been….aborted? This is all so very confusing. I think I’ll wait to hear what Ross of the Cross has to say in his next epistle. That should clear things up.
In her defense, Anchoress Woman was merely using the Cable Teevee standard for “sufficient” coverage, typified by that devoted to stories about blonde white women disappearing, particularly when Big Scary Negroes have been busting up chifferobes in their vicinity.
Also, too, that abortion button is very cool, but likely to be mistaken for a surveyor’s mark in some parts of our great republic.
Listening to a wingnut tell the rest of us how we should live is like listening to an 8 year old explaining to a NASA scientist how to find Jupiter.
Competent, caring doctors have been systematically driven from providing health care for women. Threats to their lives and those of their families have influenced them majority to opt out of the specialties associated with all but the most mundane of ob-gyne services.
Those who are left are extremely dedicated — either to the women they serve at the risk of their own safety or, sadly, to quick profits and inferior care.
Liz, this is the logical consequence of the pro-birth movement and it’s more radical and violent proponents. How many of those women would have died if they had a choice to enter a Planned Parenthood or other legitimate clinic without running a gauntlet of abuse at the hands of people who were determined to call them murderers for getting an IUD, accompanied by follow-up harrassment?
The blood, dear Lady, is on your hands.
Amen to this. This story is the essence of why abortion needs to remain legal.
Personally, I would LOVE to see this become a national bonanza story so it can be discussed just why this guy was allowed to practice for so long and all the accompanying quackery (not just on the part of the doctor). It’s strange to me that the forced-birthers (h/t someone at BJ) are trumpeting this story as it does not say what they think it says. Although, to be fair, that’s pretty much how everything works in their world.
well, to liz’s site’s credit, they actually posted my comment. as her article was posted yesterday, there is only one comment after mine, which actually responds to mine, as such:
“for the poor and underserved” …would you like fries with that?
i’m going to assume this is some denigrating reference to “chirping sound bites,” which is interesting as i went on to repeat the phrase followed by “the least among us.”
sheez, the willful blindness of these people is astounding.
honestly, folks, get over there to that site and unload! they really need a good dose of reality.
Fuck those Muzzies overthrowing their governments! COVER THIS AND NOTHING BUT THIS UNTIL I SAY OTHERWISE!!!!
(Whacks Bill Keller’s hand with steel ruler)
Funny how I do not see any stories about the rising tide of white conservative terrorism, despite well documented trend. On the other hand, we are inundated with stories about pathetic, clueless Jihadist wannabes lured into compromising positions by FBI stings.
It’s amazing she has enough time to write an editorial, what with taking care of her adopted child.
Hahahaha.
Oh Jesus, I made myself laugh.

Actually if you’ve ever talked to a precocious 8 year old some of them know more about where Jupiter is than many adults, whereas your typical right to lifer couldn’t find Uranus with a star map, a dinosaur, and a timeline.
This guy managed to operate this hell hole, not only with the willful disregard of the Commonwealth of PA’s regulators, but also completely under the radar of the “save a fetus, shit on the mother and newborn” crowd that spends days and nights in apoplectic fits of grandeur mixed with self-righteous pants-crapping and weapon-firing all in Jeebus’ name?
Of course, this Black Hole For Girls is located in west Philadelphia, a place that makes Compton look like Disneyland. Methinks these types hate the melanin-enhanced citizens of this section of town even more than abortion.
I guess I must have missed the blast fax or something. I thought the correct wingnut terminology was “isolated incident”, e.g., Jared Lee Loughner.
That says it all. I have nothing more to add to this, except thanks. You should copy this over at her site.
Okay, I realize this is a minor point – but everybody above has covered the main issues well: This “Anchoress” (and does she live in sealed-up tiny room off the chapel of a cathedral, with food brought in by charities and slipped to her through a slot in her wall? Praying all day and all night? No? Then she ain’t no anchoress)Oh, crap, I’m digressing again.
Anyway – what relation, if any, is she to the “esteemed” Supreme Court Justice Scalia?
I’ve been saying what the button says for years. Don’t like abortion? Don’t have one and good luck to you. I don’t resent your making that choice and would never tell you what to do with your body. It’s not my business.
What I really, really resent is Catholics who have this weird belief system that all Christians are somehow Catholics and give a shit what the Pope says or any Bishop says or any member of that church has to say about anything. I don’t and never have.
And with that in mind, let’s compare and contrast, shall we? Why the hell doesn’t Ms. Scalia leave the fucking church that has been doing the moral equivalent (according to her) of back alley abortions for YEARS, if not centuries? Is she really morally outraged? Please. Any Catholic who did not get up and denounce and then leave that evil institution can go pound sand and shut the hell up about morals, period.
Wow. Just…wow. I can’t even fathom that kind of mindset. You are braver than I to wade into those ugly waters.
“Against Abortion? Don’t have one.” Sometimes, it is just as simple as that.
I see that republicans are also busy at getting the whole idea of rape decriminalized. I’m guessing that this will help do away with the idea of getting an abortion due to rape…one less messy complication to trip up the crusade. Perhaps criminal incest and statutory rape, with the early biblical practitioners as references, will also be ready for a makeover. No moral relativism here!
So, we give these blastocitizens the same rights as adult, born citizens. How are we going to insure that these very tiny folks are having their newly minted constitutional rights protected? I’m guessing that we’ll need mandartory bedroom webcams (hi-rez / zoom / color) and, just to be extra safe, mandatory pregnancy testing to ID and protect our mini-citizens. You can’t protect them if you don’t know they’re there!
I’m thinking we’ll need about 20MM new government workers/inspectors to provide this new class of citizen with his/her full rights. Probably cost a trillion or so in new gubmint spending to create this ‘watchdog’ agency. First, though, lets trial this program with people like Elizabeth Scalia and every other person currently donating to or running a Pro-Life PAC. I think it’s time that the people who are so infatuated with their pro-life agenda really step up and lead on this issue by volunteering for the Big Brother For Life Federal Intrusion Program so we can get the bugs out (so to speak) before rolling it out to 300MM+ people.
And will we be prosecuting for naturally occurring spontaneous abortions? It would now be a case of 3rd degree manslaughter, no? We’re gonna need a huge increase in our judicial/legal/incarceration systems, too. Has anyone told these people that God is, by far, the biggest abortion provider in the world? Will he be tried as a co-conspirator? (S)He’s on the hook for millions of them a year. We may need to look into Heavenly extradition treaties – God may well bump Osama from the FBI’s “10 Most Wanted” list…
I’ve always said the Catholics are the second most dangerous cult in the world.
Who’s first?
Oh, honey, we could argue that all day (7th Day Adventists, Mormons, 700 Club, Scientologists, etc.) – but everyone agrees the Catholics are second.
~ Harry R. Sohl
I’ve always thought the’ Against Abortion, Don’t have one’ slogan to be weak. Oddly equivalent to ‘Against Murder, don’t murder’ if you believe abortion to be murder. So it falls on deaf ears.
